Rob Dawson and Mike Keegan, football writers at The Manchester Evening News, has given their
thoughts on United ahead of the 2012-2013 season.
Scott the Red: United usually end the season so strongly. What went wrong last
season?
Rob Dawson: I've still got no idea. I think if United played that sequence of games 100 times,
they wouldn't get a lower points tally than they did last season.

CRANSTON, R.I. Paulo Mendes scored the first goal in Rhode Island Reds history in Friday's 1-1
draw to FC New York.
Mendes' 41st minute tally tied it after Cemil Turin put New York on the board in the 8th minute.
The 1-1 draw also marked the first point collected by the Reds, who dropped a 1-0 in their
inaugural game last week against the Brooklyn Italians.
Staring at a deficit two minutes from time, Pat Hamilton and Lucas Pessanha each scored before
the final whistle to give Boston Victory a come-from-behind 2-1 win over fellow PDL debutante CFC
Azul on Saturday.
Former Revolution midfielder Ryan Kinne put the hosts on the board in the 57th minute.

A-Rod (no, not THAT A-Rod) keeps coming up in the clutch over the last few weeks for the Ottawa
Fury. This time Alex Rodriguez scored to put the Fury up 3-1 in the 106th minute of their eventual
3-2 PDL Northeast Division Playoff overtime win against the GPS Portland Phoenix in front of 265 at
the Algonquin College Soccer Complex in Ottawa on Tuesday night.
Portland's Jason Massie scored in the second minute and the Phoenix never looked back in
Saturday's 5-0 thrashing of the Victory at Scarborough High School.
Massie early goal gave way to strikes from Eric Anderson (10′), Ben Havey (18′), Keegan
Ziada (76′) and Andrew Jones (82′). Goalkeepers Terence Dieterich and Aidan McParland combined
for the clean sheet while Boston's Joao Santos and Portland's Rory Kennedy were shown red cards in
the 53rd minute.
The Worcester Hydra kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a crushing 6-0 win over the Boston
Victory on Saturday night at Foley Stadium in Worcester.
The Hydra (5-4-5, 20 points) were given a man advantage in the just 26th minute when Victory
(2-10-2, 8 points) ‘keeper Vincent Papageorgiou was ejected and had an easy time dismantling
Boston from there.
Scott Rowling's second half goal lifted the Seacoast over Portland in Wednesday's 1-0 win at
Deering High School.
Rowling scored in the 64th minute while Colin O'Donnell stopped four Phoenix shots to earn the
clean sheet. Keegan Ziada received the only caution of the game in the 38th minute.
Wotcha gang, back once again with the Rengade Dexy. Giving you a quick once-over of the past
season. Here's part 2, the middle ground.
Everton. 7th
Prediction (9). Dexys Diamond. Cahill.
Yet again, Moyes has worked his usual miracle. I stuck my neck out for a Moyes toffeenosed struggle
this season but 7th is still very respectable given his budget.
Dalglish not ready to class Carroll and Suárez among Liverpool greats
• The more they play together the better they'll get, says Dalglish • Paul Scharner accuses
Luis Suárez of diving for a penalty Kenny Dalglish was just finishing his press duties, satisfied
that he had praised the way that Andy Carroll and Luis Suárez had linked up while at the same
time avoiding the slip of the tongue that would make for a nice headline, when he was asked if the
pair could develop into one of the best partnerships.
Video special: Fergie's worst days at the office six Manchester United defeats that left
Sir Alex red-faced
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson described today's 6-1 home rout at the hands of
Manchester City as "our worst ever day". Stunned Ferguson: 'It's the worst result in my history,
ever'Â Here are six other league matches which did not go to plan for him and the team which
eventually won the title.
A huge game today with Sunderland vs Man United and Man United looking for 3 points to keep the
pressure on City. If United win here and City don't beat QPR then the Premier League will be
heading to Old Trafford again, but if City win then United can't overtake them in the league unless
they are to amazingly beat Sunderland by 8 or 9 goals, unfortunately this is unlikely to happen for
the club.
Newcastle United Managing Director Derek Llambias serves up an expletive-ridden speech against
Keegan, Shearer, Hughton and Carroll. Amidst all the furore of stadium renaming, you'd think one of
the things our Managing Director would try to do is talk around the fans and sweeten them up to the
whole fiasco.
Newcastle striker Nile Ranger's future is once again in jeopardy as club officials are set to
discuss his future after Ranger was arrested for being drunk and disorderly in October. "The press
are a joke" so said a whiter-than-white Nile Ranger on his official twitter page @NilePowerRanger;
let it be added without a hint of [.

Bank Holiday from now on. Keegan once remarked that the atmosphere at Craven Cottage under
floodlights could be a bit special and combined with a day off and the visit of our nearest
neighbours this made for an electric atmosphere.

The Portland Phoenix finished off the PDL regular season by crushing the Boston Victory, 5-0, in
front of a reported 225 at Scarborough High School.
The Phoenix (10-4-2, 32 points) had already clinched second place in the Northeast Division and
a playoff spot heading into the match, while the loss means the Victory (3-11-2, 11 points), finish
their inaugural season in last place in the eight team division.
Part seven of a seven part FanPost series looking at potential
Home Grown Player signings on the Portland Timbers U-23s (qualifies without the "Richard's

Having trained with the Portland Timbers' first team before entering college, goalkeeper Keegan Rogers is in his second season with the Timbers U-23s.
GPS Portland Phoenix scored an early goal and then added an insurance goal in the final minutes
to beat CFC Azul 2-0.
Just nine minutes into the match, Portland striker Chris Banks found Austrailian native and
midfielder Keegan Ziada, who scored his first goal of the season by beating Azul goalie Matt
Sangeloty.
The Timbers U23s trained today at Jeld-Wen Field ahead of their first ever US Open Cup game,
which will be played at Jeld-Wen tomorrow evening after the conclusion of the Timbers' game in

So, the FA have finally got their man. The man they have been so patiently waiting for. The man
everyone loves. The man doing so well in the Premier League. The man so obviously the right choice
for the England job – Roy Hodgson.
"You keep thinking about it the whole night, replaying it in your mind. What if I had been able to
stop that goal?" Keegan Coulter, 16, found it hard to fall asleep that night. There had been larger
losses previously, to less capable opponents, but this one was particularly hard to take. "The last
