Today at Bartle Hall in Kansas City, Sporting KC added two new players to their roster ahead of the start of preseason next week. Not needing to draft a specific player that would be required to come in and fill a need, KC was able to look a few different directions with their pick at number 16 and even at pick number 30.

Unfortunately I've still been unable to find a source for Digital Takawira's caps for Zimbabwe while with Kansas City, I've tried contacting the FA and the CAF, but have struck out in both instances.

I have gone ahead and updated my list of capped Sporting KC players total. This is a list of players that have played for Kansas City and been capped by their respective national teams at any time. New signing Bobby Convey, along with Daneil Cyrus and Peterson Joseph are the only new players to join the list.

Omar Bravo's time in MLS is up.

Sporting Kansas City and top-flight Mexican club Cruz Azul agreed to a deal that will see the Designated Player return to his native country after one season in MLS. No terms of the deal were disclosed.

The rumors have been around basically since the season ended. The fact that Omar Bravo had only played 5 minutes in Sporting KC's playoff run certainly did nothing to temper those rumors. In the offseason Bravo's been linked with every club in Guadalajara, from Chivas to cash strapped Tecos.

Took a little while for me to get this post out due to all the stuff that's been going on since Sporting KC's season ended. But here's a look at my post season grades.
Korede Aiyegbusi - INC - Only played 94 minutes for KC in league play this year, not enough to warrent a grade.
Davy Arnaud - C+ - Missed quite a bit of time after having hernia surgery, and once back found himself as a back up to the midfield trio of Cesar, Espinoza, and Zusi.

Westwood, CA Made another trip to Westwood to catch the NCAA 3rd round matchup between UCLA and Rutgers. Gary decided to tag along since watching UCLA meant seeing Kelyn Rowe parade his quality all over the field.

When Boston College was announced as the fourth seed in this year's NCAA Tournament, more than a few people raised their eyebrows in surprise. On Sunday, the rest of the college soccer world found out why.

The Eagles were shocked at home by unseeded Rutgers with a penalty kick shootout loss, dumping Boston College out in their first game of the tournament.

Personally I don't see a ton in this story, but it's been a major talking point the past few days. One of the team's designated players', Omar Bravo told Univsion this week that he had "a lot to think about" with regards to next season. Specifically Bravo was talking about last Sunday's conference final against Houston.

Today the MLS Cup finalists will be decided and two teams will earn humble silverware with a conference championship. Sporting Kansas City and the Houston Dynamo will square off to decide the East while the LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake square off to decide the West. For the first time in what seems like ages, teams from the east and west are playing in their respective conference championships.

Tomorrow Sporting KC get the chance to qualify for their 3rd MLS Cup in team history when they take on the Houston Dynamo, who will also be looking to qualify for their third final under the Dynamo name. Thursday night, Houston qualified for the conference finals by defeating Philadelphia 1-0 off a Brian Ching goal from a Brad Davis free kick.

Sporting Kansas City's attack has proven to be just fine without Designated Player Omar Bravo, and the club may have to maintain its level of play without him for Sunday's MLS Eastern Conference final against the Houston Dynamo.

This was the scene last night at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park after CJ Sapong put the Rapids' chances of advancing to the Conference finals all but out of reach. I know it's a celebration shot but it kind of looks like a band of demons have come to drag his soul to hell. Blame Kei Kamara's gloves, which were apparently left over from the "Skeleton Boy" video shoot.

Sporting KC moved one step closer to a potential trip to LA and MLS Cup last night when they took out the Colorado Rapids at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, winning 2-0 on the night and 4-0 on aggregate. The shutout was the team's fourth straight, the most in a row since the team's run to the championship in 2000.

Sporting KC took a big first step in the playoffs on Sunday night in Colorado as they took out the Rapids 2-0 in the first leg of their home and home series. With the second leg at home at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, KC is firmly in the driver's seat in the series.

The defending MLS Cup champion Colorado Rapids take on Sporting Kansas City today in Eastern Conference semifinal action, and while the Rapids are reigning champs, Sporting KC comes in as the favorites in a series that kicks off tonight (7:30pm, Fox Soccer Channel).

The Rapids find themselves in the Eastern Conference bracket for the second straight year, but face a very tough opponent in the semifinals as Sporting KC has been one of the strongest teams in the league in the second half of the season.

The Major League Soccer playoffs begin tomorrow without the Portland Timbers, but that does not mean Timbers fans should lose interest. With just over half the league qualified the choices to root for are plentiful.

WASHINGTON - The path to the Eastern Conference title will go through Livestrong Sporting Park.

When Sporting Kansas City wrapped up its record road trip to start the MLS campaign in June, the club's 1-6-3 mark was the league's worst. But thanks to a four-month surge driven by the club's raucous new venue and capped by a 1-0 win at D.

With a week to spare, Sporting Kansas City clinched a spot in the 2011 MLS Cup playoffs thanks to a 2-0 win over the New York Red Bulls yesterday at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. KC's early pressure nearly paid off inside the first minute off a corner kick. Graham Zusi's corner went through to the back side.

Kei Kamara and the Leone Stars pulled out a draw in South Africa against the Bafana Bafana, but the point was not enough to see them through to the African Cup of Nations. Sierra Leone needed a win and a Niger loss to qualify for the tournament for the first time since 1996, but couldn't find the net.

Sporting KC had a chance to really move away from some of the teams in the Eastern Conference, but some poor finishing on the few chances created against the San Jose Earthquakes kept them from taking all 3 points. In a game that was fairly unexciting for much of the game turned wild in the 85th minute as San Jose grabbed the lead only for Teal Bunbury to equalize 30 seconds later to give the teams a share of the points.

Week 28 of MLS action saw De Rosario make his case for league MVP, New York actually won and the race for the Eastern Conference remains a mystery. Pedro Gomes recaps the weekend here.
Sporting Kansas City 1, Philadelphia Union 1
Sporting KC hosted the Philadelphia Union in front of 18,778 fans at LiveStrongSportingPark in what was the Battle for First Place in the East on Friday night.

Sporting KC had the control of the game last night at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park, but were unable to take advantage of the possession and were only able to grab a point as they tied Philadelphia 1-1. The point only tied Sporting KC with the Columbus Crew at the top of the Eastern Conference. With the way results have already gone today, the tie has seen KC fall into a tie for second as Houston as beaten Dallas to hop over KC, Philly, and Columbus into first place.

The weekend slate is finally here, it is Friday and that means it is Soccer Night In America. Okay, I have to admit I have trouble typing that without a little bit of a laugh. For one that show title will only last a year since FSC or Fox Soccer since MLS is moving to NBC next season.

In their first away game in about two months, Sporting KC looked strong against one of the strongest home teams in the league, but couldn't capitalize on their possession and ended up falling to RSL 1-0 at Rio Tinto. KC tried to set the tempo for the game early on wiht much of the early play taking place in RSL's half of the field.

In a match-up that could wind up being an MLS Cup Final preview, Real Salt Lake and Sporting Kansas City played a physical match that left little doubt about two things.

There isn't that much separating two of the best teams in MLS, and those two teams really don't like each other.

Sporting Kansas City closes out their home stand tomorrow afternoon against the Houston Dynamo. At this moment, KC is only 2 points clear of the third place Dynamo. The two teams have played the same number of games, and with 7 games still left on the season, now is the time to really start picking up the form level getting ready to head into the playoffs.

I am a little late to this, got distracted at the end of the month and forgot to post my player of the month for August. In August KC went 3-2, scoring 9 while allowing 6 goals in the 5 games, all held at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. The leading scorer in the month was Kei Kamara, who scored 3 goals in the month.

Fresh off a last-minute come-from-ahead loss to FC Dallas last week, Sporting Kansas City desperately needed some good news in Sunday night's match-up against the Los Angele Galaxy.

Some good news came late in the form of a Frankie Hejduk handball.

Hejduk handled a cross in the penalty area to set up an Omar Bravo stoppage time penalty kick that helped Sporting KC salvage a 2-2 draw at Livestrong Sporting Park on Sunday.

Kansas City gets to step onto the field and get the Dallas game out of their minds tomorrow when they take on the LA Galaxy. The Galaxy come into this week not having played a game since August 25th due to Hurricane Irene. They'll be without their newest designated player, Robbie Keane who returned to Europe for Ireland's Euro qualifiers during this international break.

In a very big game in Freetown, Sierra Leone today, Kei Kamara and the Leone Stars took on Egypt in an African Cup of Nations qualifier. Kamara went the full 90 minutes as the Leone Stars won 2-1 with an 89th minute penalty kick. Sierra Leone dominated the early going of the game and got the first goal from Sheriff Suma off of a corner kick in the 14th minute, although the goal could could down as an own goal.

Kansas City had a great chance last night to get within 1 point of first place in the Eastern Conference after Seattle took apart Columbus earlier in the day. Unfortunately, once again, KC fell apart late and once again allowed two late goals to turn a win into a loss at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park. And it's not like this sort of thing hasn't come close on other game days either.

Sporting Kansas City has a chance to create some space between themselves and having to play a play in game for the playoffs. With teams 4 through 6 (Philadelphia, New York, and DC) all being off this weekend now due to Hurricane Irene (hope all my East Coast friends are OK) it's a chance for KC to get themselves further away from the chasing pack trying to get into one of the three automatic playoff spots.

According to Kei Kamara on Twitter tonight, he has been called up for the Sierra Leone national team for their upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt. With the call up, Kamara looks set to miss the game against the LA Galaxy two days after Sierra Leone's game on the 3rd. A blow for KC in a game that was moved by Farm Aid.

Tomorrow's game against DC United is an incredibly big game for both KC and DC. Both teams are fighting to work their way into one of the 3 automatic playoff spots for the Eastern Conference as we head into the weekend. KC currently (as of this moment) holds the 3rd spot, but is only 2 points ahead of 6th place DC.
