I hate to start these things on a down note, but today I feel I have too. As most know,
Wednesday in Port Said Egypt a riot broke out at a Egyptian Premier League match. At the least 74
people lost their lives midweek and hundreds were injured after a match between Al-Masry and
Al-Ahly.
Former USMNT boss and current Egyptian National Team coach Bob Bradley watched the events unfold
on TV as he was getting ready to attend another match that day.
The departure of Mohamed Zidan from Borussia Dortmund has opened the door of opportunity for
U.S. Under-23 national team forward Terrence Boyd.
With Zidan having moved to Mainz during the transfer window, Boyd and fellow youngster Marvin
Duksch have been summoned from their respective reserve teams by head coach Jurgen Klopp.
Michael Bradley is currently the only American international playing in Italy's Serie

U.S. Soccer announced today that a limited number of tickets are available for
purchase for the USA-Italy friendly on Feb. 29 in Genoa. This is only the USA's second friendly on
Italian soil, and the first since 2002.

U.S. men's national team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann scheduled the friendly in Panama to
experience what a road game in CONCACAF was like, and he got just what he wanted.
Four days after beating Venezuela, the United States defeated Panama, 1-0, on Wednesday night in
a game that felt much like a CONCACAF World Cup qualifier on the road.
It's high time again for another hat trick and QOTD. Today's piece will focus a bit more on the
USMNT as a couple of big games loom tonight and this weekend. One of the matchups includes two
American soccer icons in a clash this weekend, which should make for must watch TV. Also follow
after the break to have your say in the QOTD.
With the first friendly of 2012 producing a thrilling, though somewhat disappointing 1-0 victory
against Venezuela on Saturday, the U.S. men's national team is now in Panama preparing for the
first tough road match for this young group.
Jurgen Klinsmann scheduled this Panama match with the expressed purpose of testing inexperienced
players in a hostile environment, and the opponent is one who should provide a tougher test than
the one provided by Venezuela.
Don't forget today is the last day to pre-order the 2012 edition of the Sounder At Heart
official Scarf. There's one problem, today is the last day you can pre-order the scarfs. Time is
up at Noon, which is a half hour from now.
With training camps starting to fire up across Major League Soccer, that means more news is
going to start rolling in and that means the official return of Major Link Soccer.
By Clemente Lisi – NEW YORK, NY (Jan 20, 2012) US Soccer Players – Following the annual January
training camp, the United States National Team opens its 2012 schedule with a friendly against
Venezuela on Saturday at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, AZ. For US coach Jurgen
Klinsmann, the game will be his first chance to test new players five months before the USA begins
the task of trying to reach for the 2014.
With the ice storm following the snow storm Seattle Sounders FC canceled today's practice. It
was to be the formal opening to training camp, even though most players have participated in
voluntary workouts for some time. They've been doing that not just because of the roster
competition, but because game one this year is in the CONCACAF Champions League against Santos
Laguna.
As part of the 2012 NSCAA Convention, the organizers presented an hour-long interview with Jurgen

CARSON, Calif. -- There were plenty of lessons learned on Friday as the United States senior
squad soundly defeated the U.S. Under-23's 4-0 in a scrimmage that took place on the Mooch Myernick
Field at the Home Depot Center complex.
Jermaine Jones might currently be serving a lengthy ban for Schalke 04, but that does not mean
he will be without playing games until it is over.
In the midst of serving an eight-week suspension for stomping on an opponent's injured foot,
Jones has been called into the U.S. men's national team camp by head coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
A.J. DeLaGarza enters his second consecutive January camp with seasoning and success under his
belt, and with a new coach at the helm comes a new opportunity to represent the United States. The
diminutive centerback will be looking to take advantage of his three weeks training as he seeks his
first cap with the full National Team.
The United States National Team will travel to Genoa to face Italy in an international friendly,
the US Soccer Federation announced on Monday. The game is scheduled for February 29th at 2:30pm ET
at Stadio Luigi Ferraris and will be shown on ESPN2. "Obviously we are very excited to be playing a
team of such high quality," USA coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
After the lengthy wait to have their chance to impress U.S. men's national team head coach
Jurgen Klinsmann, it appears George John and Omar Gonzalez will have to wait a bit longer.
Both John and Gonzalez have left national team camp in Arizona to attend to potential winter
moves. John has left the country to pursue a potential transfer while Gonzalez is mulling over loan
opportunities.
Klinsmann names January training camp roster, SJ makes the cut!
The US is set to host Venezuela on January 21st at University of Phoenix Stadium. On January
25th, the USMNT will face off against Panama in Panama City. This should provide some quality
competition for the US.
Even better news is that Jurgen is finally paying attention to Sean Johnson.

Timmy Chandler has enjoyed a solid start to the Bundesliga season for FC Nurnberg, and at least
one other club has taken notice.
According to German publication Bild, VfB Stuttgart has set its sights on Chandler as a
potential replacement for expensive fullback Khalid Boulahrouz.
Just four guys. Having a bunch of skyward moments together. What's a Major League Soccer player to
do now that it's the off-season? Well if Jurgen's not sending you abroad then you've got some time
to kill.
For the Philadelphia Union's Danny Califf and Sebastian Le Toux it was hanging out with the other
football's Eagles and their punter and kicker for "Eagle's Confidential".
Philadelphia Union midfielders Amobi Okugo and Zach Pfeffer are currently training with
Bundesliga clubs, according to multiple reports.
Okugo, a first round SuperDraft pick by the Union in 2010, was today revealed to have flown to
Germany today to train with Bundesliga relegation zone side SC Freiburg.
Staff Writer Phil Collin headed out to Home Depot Center Wednesday for the last Galaxy training
session of the year before the team heads to Southeast Asia for a three-game tour. And the team
will be back at it early next year with CONCACAF Champions league games looming fairly quickly.
But then they're used to that by now:
"It's not just the short offseason this year, it's the cumulative effect of the last
three years playing late in the season where other teams have three weeks or a month more off every
year," Landon Donovan said.
Wherever Arsenal finish in each competition this season, one thing that is almost certain is the
continuation of the attention paid to Robin Van Persie as supposedly the Gunners' main source of
success. Despite the Dutchman's colleagues performing equally as well in their own right, the solid
displays of other squad members are sometimes overlooked.

A few more U.S. national team players will be extending their trips to Europe.
Real Salt Lake's Kyle Beckerman and the Columbus Crew's Robbie Rogers have had training stints
arranged with Bundesliga club Kaiserslautern by U.
In further efforts to kill time before the MLS Final this Sunday, I'll now be doing a general
round up of stuff going on with the league, and with American soccer as a whole. There's actually
been a fair amount of stuff going on.
US FRIENDLIES: In the past week, the US met with France and Slovenia, coming
out of the two matches with a win and a loss.

Remember the span of time in 2009 and towards the end of 2010 World Cup qualifying when the
United States had a home match at Rio Tinto against El Salavador before going on the road against a
Trinidad & Tobago side whose quality in that game was going to be a crapshoot?
If you recall that match like I do a missed clearance by Jonathan Bornstein that led to an El
Salvadorian goal, a few moments of attacking pressure at the end of the first half which scantily
provided the winning difference than you are quite comfy with at least the notion of new US manager
Jurgen Klinsmann attempting to implement a style of play here for the United States in the
friendlies leading up to World Cup qualifying.
Landon Donovan has withdrawn from the U.S. men's national team ahead of Friday's friendly vs.
France to focus on the MLS Cup Final, U.S. Soccer announced on Monday.
Donovan had been named to the 22-man U.S. roster for upcoming friendlies against France and
Slovenia, and originally he would have taken part in just the France friendly before returning to
the LA Galaxy to focus on the MLS Cup Final, but Donovan and U.
There were talking points galore on the first legs of the four MLS quarterfinal playoff series.
I tried to hit as many as possible in the SI.com review, which should be posted later today.
But I didn't get to one issue that's sitting out there, kind of by itself, like a shy kid at a
big, fancy dance.
Perk up, Jurgen. Don't mean to be that guy, but I'd like to quickly revisit two of my outlandish
postseason predictions and provide a brief update. - SKC's Teal Bunbury will be the leading scorer
in the playoffs. So far so good. Bunbury buried a pair Sunday, including a penalty kick to ice it,
in a 2-0 win over defending champs Colorado.

the U.S. men's national team friendly with Ecuador Tuesday night, and he discussed a bevy of

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - If Oguchi Onyewu's recent string of performances for Sporting Lisbon
wasn't a sign that he's getting back to top form, his outing against Honduras likely was.
Having not played for the U.
U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann his first win at the helm of the United States as a Clint
Dempsey goal was all that the US needed to beat Honduras in rainy Miami.
Tim Howard earned Budweiser Man of the Match honors, posting six saves en route to his 37th
victory. With the win, Howard moves into a second-place tie with fellow New Jersey native Tony
Meola on the USA's all-time win list for goalkeepers.
Clint Demsey's class finish in the 36th minute against Honduras gives Jurgen
Klinsmann his forst victory as U.S coach.
On a rainy and windy night in Miami, the US national team used a 36th minute strike from Clint
Dempsey to defeat Honduras and give Jurgen Klinsmann his first win as USMNT head coach.
