Another set of stats for you, this one for the Red Bulls. The Red Bulls are the only team of the original MLS teams still around that Kansas City has never met in a competition outside of league play. They've never met in the playoffs, Open Cup, or any other competition, so the league and all competitions will be the same.
Some new stats that I'm starting. A look at the players who have played the most games and minutes for Kansas City and in the season series with each MLS team. With 20 teams to go through I'm going to go through each team one at a time. In alphabetical order, starting with the Chicago Fire.
Here is this week's former Wizards update. Not a lot of goals this week, only Sunil Chhetri's goal
against Cameroon in the Nehru Cup. Next week will be a light week with national team duty going on.
Here is the information though.

Another week of former Wizards updates, and a few changes as the European leagues begin to get
going. Eloy Colombano, Zoltan Hercegfalvi and Neal Kitson have moved back into the unknown list as
they're no longer with their clubs from last season. One player, Carlos Marinelli has moved back
onto the list as he's signed with an Argentine 3rd division club.
More European leagues are kicking off. Here's a look at this week's update.

It's another week of former SKC Wizards updates. First, congratulations to two former Wizards. Tony
Meola was officially inducted into the US Soccer hall of fame last week before the US game vs
Brazil. Also, Alex Bunbury, father of current Wizard, Teal Bunbury, was named to Canada's all time
starting XI.
Well, D.C. United doesn't have a number 20 on the roster at this point in time, so I figured we'd take today to look at another vital part of the team: the coaching staff. Obviously Ben Olsen as the head man is a big deal in all things United. Chad Ashton was an assistant under Tom Soehn, moved to Technical Director during the short-but-not-short-enough Onalfo Era, and returned to the sideline when Olsen took over.
The man who scored one of the famous goals in the USA-Mexico rivalry called it quits today as Josh Wolff officially announcement his retirement. Already a player/coach for D.C. United, he now joins the coaching staff on a full-time. Wolff made 52 appearances for the United States from 1999-2008 and scored nine goals.
Washington, D.C. (September 18, 2012) β D.C. United announced today that player/assistant coach Josh Wolff underwent a microdiscectomy to repair a lower back disc herniation.
Throughout the season DC United has pursued a team identity with limited success. Through some
extraordinary individual efforts and occasional combination play by a few players at a time, United
won a good share of points, but never quite seemed as solid as they could be. A certain confidence
was lacking.
DC United has drifted into a deep malaise over the past two months. Only sporadically does the
team seem to be in sync. Play is unfocused and only moments of individual brilliance have allowed
the team to salvage as many points as they have.
Frustration is the spirit of the day and Sunday's game saw it come out.
Andy Najar's Olympic adventure has been a rousing success thus far, but the D.C. United winger
will face his biggest test Saturday.Β
Najar has played a major role in getting Honduras' Olympic soccer team out of its group and into
the quarterfinals, helping set up the all-MLS goal that led to Honduras' shocking win over Spain
and starting all three matches during the group stage.
WASHINGTON -- Upon their first public remarks after becoming major investors in
D.C. United, the club's two newest owners wasted no time in addressing the one thing that the
club's supporters have been eagerly and patiently waiting to have resolved: A new stadium.
Over the past month, DC United has not looked particularly sharp. The games against Philadelphia
and New York were especially pedestrian. The midfield lacked control. Midway through the loss to
the Red Bulls, Branko Boskovic showed the way out of United's malaise.
Coach Ben Olsen understood his team's problem, "Knowing that it was going to be a hot day, the
fact that we weren't sharp in possession the last two weeks that was something that we needed to
have today, and we had it.
Just as the transfer window has opened up DC United has made two speculative player moves. Given
his small salary, Long Tan, acquired in a trade from Vancouver, is low risk as an addition to a
fairly large cadre of forwards. Branko Boskovic is the high risk/reward signing and he needs to see
more playing time to justify his new contract.
That's just one of the things Ben Olsen had to say after his team lost last week to the
Philadelphia Union. The loss ended DC United's run in this year's US Open Cup, which has seen a
slew of MLS sides crash out to lower-division opposition.
00:26 - Carlos Valdes runs up and strikes a hard free kick that dips in front of D.C. United
goalkeeper Bill Hamid, who is able to parry the shot to his right. A Union follow up is cleared off
the line by Daniel Woolward, before Gabriel Farfan blasts it wide of the net.
Five MLS teams advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday night, but no club
made as big of a statement as the Seattle Sounders.
The Sounders put an end to Cal FC's Cinderella run in the tournament, scoring five second-half
goals en route to a 5-0 win. Osvaldo Alonso got things going by converting a penalty kick for the
first of his two goals on the night, while Freddy Montero added a brace of his own.
More stats, here's the goal scorers in all competitions through the end of the 2012 season. One new player joins the list this year. First here are the previous years.
Another stat for you, Sporting's landmark goals. This year KC hit two marks, Aurelien Collin got the 700th league goal for KC, scoring in first half stoppage time against FC Dallas in March. Then in June, CJ Sapong scored KC's 500th goal in all competitions at home with his goal against Toronto. Next year KC should get their 300th league away goal and their 900th in all competitions.
Sporting KC has gone 325 minutes without a goal at home, the second longest streak in team history
behind 367 from the end of the 1998 season through the start of the 1999 season.
Peter Vermes coached his 110th game in all competitions for KC, tying Ron Newman for the second
most games coached for KC.
In a move that makes tons of sense for all parties involved, Josh Wolff announced his retirement from professional soccer today, and will be joining former teammate Ben Olsen as a full-time assistant coach on the sidelines.
"I was lucky enough to play alongside Josh since we were teenagers and we were able to share some incredible experiences, playing in the Olympics and a World Cup as teammates," Olsen said in a press release on dcunited.
Be honest. If we told you that Steve Cherundolo played his first game for the National Team in
1999, would you have believed it?
Well, we've got one better. Not only did he play Sept. 8, 1999, as a 20-year-old, but he did it
right here in Kingston. On that day, he went 90 in the USA's 2-2 draw.
Sporting Kansas City will begin their defense of the US Open Cup tomorrow at Sporting Park when they'll take on the PDL side, Des Moines Menace. This will be the third time that the two teams have met in a competitive game, all in US Open Cup play. The two teams first met in 2005 at Julian Field on the campus of Park University in the tournament's 4th round.
The US hosts Costa Rica in a FIFA World Cup Qualifier tonight at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado, tonight (ESPN, WatchESPN and UniMas from 7 p.m. CT.). Inpreparation for the matchUS Soccer has posted some classic video's of the two sides. So I'm putting them up here for your enjoyment.
United States National Team and DC United forward Josh Wolff announced his retirement on Wednesday. "It's been a fun ride and I have had a lot of great experiences over the years in the League, abroad, and with the national team," Wolff said in a press statement. "I'd like to thank everyone for the memories, advice, and direction over the years.
