DaMarcus Beasley looks to get back on the field after having his pelvic injury diagnosed as merely
a bruise, while Jose Torres and Pachuca look to keep clawing their way up the standings.
Herculez Gomez and Santos Laguna stay on top, Michael Orozco and San Luis continued their slide
towards the bottom, and Jose Torres was involved in a thriller with Pachuca.
Herculez Gomez and Santos Laguna go into Week 5 on top of the table, while Jose Torres, Edgar
Castillo, and Michael Orozco all sit within four points back.
Michael Orozco, Jose Torres, and Edgar Castillo should all be starting this weekend, while the
other Americans down south will hope to get off the bench.

Landon Donovan did not lead Everton to victory in his return match for the club, but he will not
have to wait long to get another chance at that.
Donovan and Everton will take on lowly Tamworth of England's fifth division in a third round FA
Cup match on Saturday.
Jon Levy You'll have to forgive all of us here at The Yanks Are Coming for getting into a
more-than-healthy amount of self-referencing in the coming months. We're coming up on the blog's
fourth birthday this summer, TYAC having been created in the wake of a very talented 2008 Olympic
soccer team's early and unexpected exit from the Beijing [.

Clint Dempsey scored a goal for Fulham in the Europa League today, but they gave up 2 late goals to
tie and were knocked out of the competition.
By Garrett McInnis Prior to the France match, I had completely unrealistic expectations. The same
can be said of my expectations for Jurgen Klinsmann's first few months as manager of the National
Team. I think it's safe to say that most American soccer fans got a little too excited by Klinsy's
hire. Having said all [.
Last Friday we witnessed the US National Team in a tepid display against France. If you missed it,
count yourself lucky as it was rough to watch. Tomorrow the team will have a chance at redemption
against Slovenia. We're likely to see much of the same though. Jurgen Klinsmann hasn't done much to
reassure fans of anything in the past months string of friendlies.

Sebastien Le Toux hopes there won't be the same roster turnover there was last year, because it
was difficult to adjust to.

Remember when you read that Joe Corona was all set to play for Mexico and pass on the chance to
play for his actual country of birth, the United States?
Well, scratch that one. It seems the LA-born Corona is ready to follow in the footsteps of Jose
Torres and Edgar Castillo and bypass Mexico to play for the United States.
Orange Slices! USA vs. Ecuador
Orange Slices is our game day, catch-all post that we update during the day before the
match
This ain't your adolescent Honduras.
The USA welcomes Ecuador to the cement confines of Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ. Game five of
the Jurgen Klinsmann era.
Jurgen Klinsmann's appointment as the head coach of the US Mens National Team was met with
excitement for many reasons. The stagnating program looked at Klinsmann as a proven winner who
could help reestablish the USA as the dominant nation in CONCACAF while helping to build a system
to make the Nats more dangerous in international competitions and against European opponents.
The U.S. men's national team's roster for October's friendlies is expected to be released this
afternoon, and while we will find out soon enough just who Jurgen Klinsmann plans on taking a look
at in the upcoming matches vs. Honduras and Ecuador.
There have been several players who have stepped up in the week's following the last U.
Zach is joined by Howard Medgal to discuss Klinsmann's plan to search the globe for more
dual-citzenship players and who has an opportunity to step up after the Jose Torres injury. We also
cover public enemy #1 Rafa Marquez and MLS' unwillingness to suspended Dwayne De Rosario for an
obvious dive.
TEAM USA - EL EQUIPO DE TODOS
In case you missed it last week, Jose Torres has suffered a broken bone in his left foot and after
surgery he will be on the shelf until some time in January or the beginning of February.
STORY OF THE DAY
This story has popped up in every city where a club team from the US Soccer development academy has
told their players to make a choice between the club that plays in a national league or their high
school team.

Chris Vito reports that the Union will be using a MLS pool goalkeeper as a backup to Zac MacMath
for the Kansas City game.
The Kansas City Star expects Sporting to defeat the Union, saying, while they "might plan on
playing the 'bunker' game on the road," the Union haven't shown "the strength to withstand
anyone.
STARTERSInter Milan has fired head coach Gian Piero Gasperini after just 5 games in charge. 1 loss in the
Italian Super Cup. 1 loss in the UEFA Champions League. 1 tie and 2 losses in Serie A. And no signs
that the team was going anywhere but down in each of those games. Its not Gasperini's fault at all.
Torres SidelinedU.S. midfielder Jose Torres had surgery this morning to repair the fifth metatarsal in his left
foot. The injury will sideline the Longview, Texas native for at least two months, according to
Pachuca.
Torres has been getting serious minutes for club and country as of late, starting all three matches
for the United States since Jurgen Klinsmann took over as head coach.

Winless since their 3-0 road victory over New England on July 17, the Union did just enough to
take three points off of a depleted Columbus Crew side before a packed house at PPL Park on
Saturday night. Zac MacMath earned his second clean sheet in three attempts and Sebastien Le Toux
continued his resurgent goal-scoring form with the game's only goal in the 32nd minute.
The US National Team walked away from friendlies against Costa Rica and Belgium with two 1-0
losses, but with Jurgen Klinsmann still kicking the tires of the program he inherited, it is the
individual performances that are of greatest importance for US fans as the red, white and blue
builds toward qualification for the 2014 World Cup.

Vortexing..
Jurgen Klinsmann has now officially cast off as skipper of the US national team. A three game
tenure is merely prologue to what will be a fact-finding, a player-finding mission leading up to
qualifying and World Cup in 2014.
Yet, as much as the camps of late 2010 will probably not be remembered much when 2014 dawns, at
present they are starkly in contrast to the complexion in results, personnel and more to the Bob
Bradley era.
Jurgen has some work to do.When the US Men's National Team took on Belgium, it was yet another
learning experience. The team was coming off a 1-0 loss against Costa Rica and was hoping to
improve on the performance. They did not. The Americans fell 1-0 to a remarkably powerful Belgium
side. Still, there were several things I noticed throughout this match and really over the past two
matches.
It's finally over. This two-game-in-five-day stretch for the US national team has come and gone,
and the team now has a full three matches under Jurgen Klinsmann.
How far along has the team come under Klinsmann? What progress has been made?
Despite the less-than-stellar record - the U.S. is 0-2-1 under Klinsmann - progress has been made.

Still in search of his first win as head coach of the U.S. Men's National Team, Jurgen Klinsmann
added a bit more experience to his starting line-up against Belgium in King Baudouin Stadium in
Brussels on Tuesday night. Yet despite a bright start, the U.S. would fall to defeat by a 1-0
scoreline for the second time in four days.
US 0-1 Belgium The great play of goalkeeper Tim Howard kept the US in the game, but ultimately
could not keep Belgium from getting a 1-0 win over the Americans. Though the US is now 0-2-1 under
Klinsmann promising play from Brek Shea, Jose Torres, and Clint Dempsey shows what could happen
once the team's [.
This was essentially the same sort of Belgium team I've had the misfortune to watch every few
years since 1970 - one that grinds out results with a packed midfield/defense despite an obvious
dearth of talent.
On the other side of the field this U.S. is looking more than a bit familiar as well just three
games into the reign of Jurgen Klinsman with young players learning on the job, no real attacking
strengths (Clint Dempsey aside) and yes, another loss.
Who: The United States Men's National Team (USMNT) and the Belgium Men's National
Team.
What: An international friendly.
Where: King Baudouin Stadium, Brussels, Belgium and on ESPN and ESPN3.
When: 2:30 pm EST is currently the designated kickoff time.
Klinsmann will spend time in Europe
U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann is taking full advantage of his time in Europe following the match
against Belgium, traveling across the continent to visit current and future U.S. prospects. Here's
the breakdown:
Sept. 7 - Jurgen watched Stuart Holden play 65 minutes for Bolton's reserves against Rochdale in
the Manchester Senior Cup.
The USA will continue it's phoenix-like reformation this afternoon against what will be a very
good Belgium side. USA fans are not only hoping for a win to wipe the taste of defeat against Costa
Rica out of their mouths, but they are also looking for the Americans to continue their integration
of the Klinsmann system and jettisoning the Bradley system.
The U.S. men's national team is ready to play its first game in Europe under new head coach
Jurgen Klinsmann, and while recent opponents Mexico and Costa Rica posed their own problems for the
United States, facing Belgium in Brussels today (2:30pm, ESPN2) will present its own set of
difficulties.
Coming off a loss to Costa Rica, the US Men's National Team is jump-kicking its way across the
Atlantic, all the way to the home of Jean-Claude Van Damme and waffles with oversized syrup traps.
Before we get to our official TYAC preview, here's a primer in case you missed the last episode.

The U.S. men's national team has taken the lengthy journey from California to Brussels for
Tuesday's friendly against Belgium, not giving the team much time to dwell on Friday's loss to
Costa Rica. The focus is instead on a Belgian opponent that will prove to be a much tougher
opponent.
Steve Cherundolo will join the team in BrusselsIt was a long day of travel but the U.S. MNT is on the ground in Belgium. The team flew overnight
from Los Angeles to Frankfurt before getting on the short transfer to Brussels. A long night on the
plane to be sure but the team is settled in the hotel and looking forward to the next day and a
half leading into Tuesday's game.
I wrote for SI.com this morning about Jurgen Klinsmann and his biggest challenge ahead:
identifying that final 10 percent, that little "something extra" from a talented young group that
still clearly needs some seasoning.
Anecdotally, we can all see that something is surely missing, that extra sliver of quality that
makes the difference at the highest level.
Last night's game vs. Costa Rica was interesting for a couple of reasons. The US played a very
attractive, attacking style of soccer (just as Klinsmann is wanting to implement), and bossed the
opening 30 or so minutes, and also dominated other stretched of the match. Landon Donovan missed
what should have been a for sure goal, and the US did have a couple of other chances but couldn't
score.

CARSON, Calif. – Jose Torres has had his ups and downs as part of the U.S. men's national team
over the past three years, but under new U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann, Torres has enjoyed a national
team renaissance.
Despite the United States' 1-0 loss to Costa Rica on Friday night, Torres was one of the
standout American bright spots, and was arguably the best U.
Expectations were high for the United States Men's National Team entering their friendly versus
Costa Rica late Friday night. While the Americans dominated large portions of the match, Costa
Rica's knife-sharp counterattack yielded them the only goal in the contest, disappointing a quiet,
undersized crowd at the Home Depot Center.
