all three points with an 84th minute winner.
More defensive worries for U.S.A. fans heading into the World Cup qualifiers against Costa Rica and Mexico as Jurgen Klinsmann has dropped U.S. captain Carlos Bocanegra from the squad, while Timmy Chandler, Fabian Johnson and Danny Williams will miss the matches because of injuries and illness.
Besides Bocanegra there are eight players not in the squad that you would expect to see: Edgar Castillo (facial fractures), Chandler (hamstring), Steve Cherundolo (knee surgery), Tim Howard (broken bones in back), Johnson (hip), Jonathan Spector (ankle), Jose Torres (hamstring) and Williams (stomach virus).
Veterans Tim Howard, Clint Dempsey and Michael Bradley headline the U.S. Men's National Team roster chosen to travel to San Pedro Sula ahead of Wednesday's vital World Cup qualifying clash against Honduras, a roster heavy on European-based players.
Graham Zusi, Eddie Johnson and Matt Besler headline a contingent of seven MLS-based players.
The USA opened CONCACAF 2014 World Cup Qualifying with a victory over Antigua & Barbuda on June
8, 2012. It was a 3-1 victory a a much closer match than most expected.
It started out on a positive note for the USA as Carlos Bocanegra pounced on a rebound following
a corner kick. Antigua and Barbuda, who are a small country with a small population (about 85,000),
were not expected to get anything out of the match and likely were going to struggle to keep the
match competitive.
After each match the contributors to New England Soccer Today will rate the performances of
the United States National Team players who made an appearance on a 1 to 10 scale (1 horrendous, 5
average, 10 perfection). This week Sean Donahue contributed ratings for the USA's 3-1 win over
Antigua & Barbuda.
UANL Tigres kept their unbeaten record intact this past weekend in Mexican league action, but they needed a comeback against a dangerous Santos Laguna side to do it.
Darwin Quintero's second-minute strike put the Mexican League leaders in an early hole, but Jose Torres' squad stepped up yet again, with a Juninho equalizer helping Tigres salvage a point at Estadio Universitario.
Jose Torres will be plying his trade in Mexico in 2013, but it will not for the club that gave him his professional start.
Torres officially transfered from Pachuca to Tigres UANL on Friday, ending a six-year stint with the Tuzos. No details of the transfer were made available, but the U.
U.S. Men's National Team midfielder Jose Torres has spent nine years with Mexican side Pachuca since moving to Mexico from the United States as a teenager, but it seems like his time with 'Los Tuzos' is ready to come to an end.
Reports in Mexico have linked Torres to a move to Mexican side Tigres.
DaMarcus Beasley had one of the better performances this weekend, but even he endured a bit of a
topsy-turvy outing in a subpar weekend for the Americans Abroad.
Playing a week after suffering an injury, Beasley started and went the distance in Puebla's 3-1
defeat to Toluca on Sunday.
Just two days removed from Friday's disappointing 2-1 loss to Jamaica, Jurgen Klinsmann is left
to figure out just which 11 players he can turn to for Tuesday's crucial rematch against the
'Reggae Boyz' in Columbus.
There were few good performances across the board for the Americans, and some that should lead
to changes in the lineup.
I know that I've made one too many 'Merica jokes on twitter and alienated many of you with my
"split allegiances" posts at Fox Soccer. However, I assure that I have white skin, blue blood
courses my veins, and that blood when exposed to air turns red. Thus, I am American. Emphasis on
the last three syllables.
The U.S. MNT is back in Miami, which is traditionally been the staging point for training camps
prior to games in Central America and the Caribbean. The warm temperatures and proximity for travel
make South Florida an ideal location to get prepped for the World Cup qualifiers.
And so it was that 15 players took the field for training this afternoon.
With the announcement of Jurgen Klinsmann's 24-player roster for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers
against Jamaica, the stage is set for the week of preparations that kicked off Sunday in Miami.
Players began reporting throughout the afternoon beginning with Jermaine Jones, the USA's
game-winning goalscorer in the last meeting against Jamaica.
Juergen Klinsmann's side achieved their first ever victory in Azteca Stadium after a 1-0 win over
Mexico on Wednesday. Although only a friendly, the historic victory was celebrated by Americans as
a landmark moment against our eternal rivals, particularly considering the experimental lineup
employed by the Yanks.

Jurgen Klinsmann named the 22-player roster for the U.S. Men's National Team for Wednesday's
friendy against Mexico, and there are several new faces in the mix.
Newly-crowned U.S. Open Cup champions Graham Zusi and Matt Besler were among the players chosen
to take on Mexico at Estadio Azteca on Wednesday in a rare friendly in Mexico between the two
rivals.
The U.S. Men's National Team returns to action on Wednesday in the highly-anticipated friendly
vs. Mexico at Estadio Azteca. We already know who Mexico will be bringing to the showdown, but U.S.
head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has held off in announcing his team until the weekend.
Back in June, Klinsmann suggested that he would be fielding a full-strength squad for the trip
to Mexico City, but circumstances might keep that from happening.
Terrence Boyd may have just received his first taste of Europa League action, but he is about to
get a first-hand account of one of Austria's biggest rivalries.
Rapid Vienna host Austria Vienna in this season's first Vienna derby on Sunday, and Boyd is
likely to see just how intense matches between two of the Austrian Bundesliga's top teams can
be.
After worrying Yank's supporters with a poor showing and a loss in Kingston, the squad rebounded in Columbus, playing a fluid passing style in their Tuesday night victory. Each section of the article will focus on a tactical point and compare how the teams played in the two matches. The Lineups On Friday, the US played a 4-3-1-2, which resulted in a very narrow approach.

When Jürgen Klinsmann named his 22 man roster at 3:45 pm on Sunday, there were legitimate
questions about its makeup. The majority of the US soccer media had predicted Klinsmann would
call in a borderline A squad, and press for a first American win at Azteca. Instead he shocked
the bloggerati with a low B squad drawn almost entirely from MLS and the Mexican Primera.
As you have seen, U.S. head coach Jurgen Klinsmann announced a 22-player travel squad that will
gather in Mexico City for the first friendly meeting between the teams on Mexican soil since 1984.
There are plenty of notes in the roster announcement, so here's a few more to add to the mix:
Landon Donovan is the leading capwinner on the roster with 143 international appearances.

engaging in racist behaviour be immediately ejected from the stadium and its vicinity, and that
criminal proceedings be launched against such individuals." from UEFA's announcement. Other Sources

The U.S. Men's Under-23 National Team didn't make it to the Olympics, but that hasn't stopped
one team from stepping forward to capture the appreciation of plenty of American soccer fans at
these Olympic Games.
Honduras has put together a dream run into the Olympic quarterfinals, and with four MLS players
on the roster, it has become easy to root for them (and let's face it, not many American fans are
going to root for Mexico).
Sporting Kansas City will be welcoming the Ligue 1 champions to Livestrong Sporting Park this
summer.
Sporting KC announced they will be hosting French side Montpellier in a friendly on July 24,
the first of two matches Montpellier will play in the United States this summer.
Thirteen weeks into the Clausura season, the parity amongst Liga MX teams is easy to see when looking at the standings. Just ten points separate third-placed Club America from the 14th-placed Puebla.
However, first-placed Tigres UANL have quietly stayed undefeated and will look to extend their lead at the top of the table when they visit fifth-placed Pumas on Saturday.
There's good news on the injury front for Jose Torres, who was forced to leave the match against
Antigua & Barbuda in the 57th minute with a left ankle contusion.
Torres was taken to the hospital immediately following the match, and an xray revealed no
fractures. Diagnosed with a bone bruise, Torres is receiving treatment throughout the day and will
travel with the team to Guatemala on Sunday in hopes of being ready for Tuesday's qualifier.
