Remaking the Red Bulls

2

Put a pair of Vulcan ears on New York sporting director Jeff Agoos. He uses relentless Spock-like logic to describe the Red Bulls' approach toward shaping up the roster this season.

When Jozy (Altidore) left, we knew we had a big hole up front, but we knew we needed to get someone to get Juan (Pablo Angel) the ball.

Juan Carlos Osorio will be making his first trip back to Toyota Park since leaving the Chicago Fire to take over as coach of the New York Red Bulls and the reception for him isn't likely to be a warm one.

ALL THE BULL: Rojas Raves, International Duty, Trialists, More

1

Well, business is back to normal after the Kandji disaster last week. Weeks of good news and achievement took a backseat to the alleged communist behavior of the MLS. But people do forget rather quickly, especially after the team has performed so damn well in a historically disasterous period for previous Metro/Bull squads.

but it's not a losss

Image via Wikipedia saturday night saw the new york red bulls take on dc united. to be honest, it was a pretty ugly game on our part. we were lucky to walk out of there with a 0-0 draw.

but then again, a road tie against dc united is never something to scoff at. i think the real tragedy comes when you look at our play compared to our three-game winning streak. Click to continue reading...

MLS: After the makeovers

0

Twenty-one games down, nine to go. Incoming transfer window closed, though trades and discovery claims can continue through the roster freeze date of Sept. 15.

A few teams are involved in the CONCACAF Champions League, which will complicate their schedules to say the least. Judging by the MLS results in the first leg, some teams may view that competition as more of a nuisance than anything else.

Jorge Rojas Update

2

As you may have heard, Jorge Rojas had some visa problems while playing with his Venezuelan National side, and could not reenter the US. Long story short - his passport was found to be damaged to the point of possible forgery back in his native land, and refused his right to travel. Once they found out who he was, his visa was reinstated in ONE DAY.

Red Bulls roll past Houston

3

The forecast looked grim for the Red Bulls as they took the field against the Houston Dynamo. The Red Bulls were set to play without three key players, midfielder Jorge Rojas (visa issues), Jeff Parke (ankle injury) and Gabriel Cichero (red card suspension) and set to face a Dynamo team that hasn't lost an MLS match in more than two months.

No Rojas, Parke or Cichero? No Problem: RBNY 3 - Dynamo 0

0

First off, I have to point out that Kevin Goldthwaite DID say that it would be easier to slice tomatos than to take down Houston. Nostradamus was in the house, as the defense, obliterated by injuries and suspensions, held the Dynamo to a 3- 0 shutout.

Coach Osorio, reacting to the losses in the back, relied heavily on some of the newer pieces in a 4-4-2 formation.

Second Trimester Review

1

We are now 2/3rds the way in! Lets take a look at our last 10 games.

OVERALL: 7-6-7
LAST 10: 3-3-4

The Second Trimester (and Juan Carlos Osorio)

The Red Bulls took an nose dive in the early part of the last 10 games. Amounting only one win in the first 6 (which included two heartbreakers with a 4-1 loss to DC and an equally embarrassing 4-0 loss to Colorado), the 1-3-2 Red Bulls looked destined to collapse.

Red Bulls Preview: Game #19 vs. Scum

3
Let's hear it for parity. Despite a five-match league winless streak (seven straight overall), the Red Bulls are only a single point out of a playoff spot with twelve matches to play. Over the last few weeks, the club has brought in help, including Venezuelan international defender Gabriel Chicero, who played 45 minutes with New York in Wednesday's schooling by Barcelona. Soccer Clinic: Barcelona 6 - Red Bulls 2

16

From the opening whistle, the Red Bulls looked star struck and tentative. Trotting out a 4-5-1 formation (which you all know I LOVE), I already sensed it would be a long, long night. Within the first few minutes, Danleigh Borman missed a clear shot into the back of the net on a beautiful Van Den Bergh cross - and that confirmed my suspisions.

Photo of the Day: Jorge Rojas' NY Daily News Cover

If could tag on to the coattails of Metrofanatic's bit about Red Bull New York's current transit-based advertising campaign, when getting off of the bus into Madhattan this morning I was greeting by Jorge Rojas mug on the back cover of the Daily News. Usually this is often a bad career move because in NY that space is often occupied by politicians or celebrities who have been caught with either a live boy or a dead girl. Johan Micoud has eyes on MLS deal

1
French midfielder Johan Micoud, whose contract with Girondins Bordeaux has expired, wants to join a Major League Soccer outfit, according to somebody with direct ties to the player and his agent. The 34-year old last year completed his second stint for Bordeaux. His 16-year professional career also included stops at Parma and (probably most famously) Werder Bremen after starting at AS Cannes back in 1992. Click to continue reading...

Red Bulls Preview: Game #18 at Shakes

2
Last week, the New York Red Bulls let two points slip away in injury time vs. LA at home. Sunday afternoon, New York will have a golden opportunity to escape last place in the East when they play the West's bottom-feeder, San Jose (3-9-5), at Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara (3p, MSG+).

The last time out, the New York offense was invigorated by the addition of midfielder Jorge Rojas, who assisted on both Red Bull goals in 2-2 draw with the Galaxy. Click to continue reading...

MLS Draws in Review Part 2-2: New York v LA Galaxy and FC Dallas v Colorado

0

Since both reviews ended 2-2, I thought saving these for the second part of my review would fit the bill.

New York Red Bulls v Los Angeles Galaxy
In a game with more twists and turns than quality play on the plastic of Giants Stadium, LA went from 2-1 in injury time and thanks to Landon Donovan finished the game 2-2 and were unfortunate they didn't win with Donovan's last second volley that thundered off the cross bar.

Red Bulls 2, Galaxy 2 : A Supporter's View

2

It was supposed to be the Beckham show on Saturday night at Giants Stadium but Dave Van Den Bergh, Jorge Rojas and Juan Pablo Angel gave the Red Bulls fans in attendance a reason to smile.

At least before Landon Donovan stole the show with a late equalizer, something he's done in the past, to help the Galaxy salvage a tie and force the home team to think about its missed opportunity to close ground in the tight Eastern Conference.

fun times

well, that jorge rojas kid ain't too shabby....

in what is quickly becoming the mls game of the year to watch, the los angeles galaxy v. the new york red bulls at giant stadium did not disappoint again this year.

while a garbage time goal from landon "i like to cuddle" donovan did end the game in a 2-2 tie (only giving the red bulls 1 point when they absolutely deserved the win) the match was another high-octane end-to-end soccer fest - and a sign of good things to come for the red bulls.
