Jonathan Bornstein and Victor Garza both saw action on Thursday night as Tigres' Copa Libertadores
campaign ended with an aggregate loss to Union Espanola in the qualifying round.
Frigid temperatures and snowstorms across Europe are starting to take their toll on the soccer
schedule.
Saturday's anticipated match between Roma and Inter Milan has already been postponed because of
snow blanketing Rome. The Cesena-Catania match has also been called off, and that is in addition to
four midweek Serie A games having to be rescheduled because of the snow.
Novara - Chievo 2:30pm - Fox Soccer A chance to see Michael Bradley in action, with 12th-place
Chievo traveling to bottom club Novara. In 20th-place, Novara have won two games this season, both
at home including a shock result against Inter Milan on September 20th. Chievo and Novara met on
the opening day of the season, drawing 2-2.
Most of last night's headlines might have been about the U.S. men's national team's friendly in
Panama, but that was not the only place south of the border where an American was playing.
Lost amid the U.S. team's 1-0 win, Jonathan Bornstein made his season debut, starting and going
the distance in Tigres UANL's 1-0 first-leg loss to Chilean club Union Espanola in the Copa
Libertadores.
Jonathan Bornstein went the distance for Tigres in their Copa Libertadores loss to Union Espanola
at the Estadio Santa Laura SEK in Santiago, Chile. Gonzalo Barriga scored the game's only goal in
the 58th minute. Bornstein and Tigres are playing a two-leg first stage series with Union Espanola,
with the winner advancing to Group 3.
The Mexican Primera Division returns with the 2012 Clausura. Just like the Apertura, the Spring
season is playing under a traditional single table. For those of you needing a brief refresher,
that means 18 teams without the old groups that did very little to provide a better competitive
picture for the Mexican League.
Ah new year, new MLS season. I've said that ad nauseam now, but it's true. And with a new season
comes, well, new everything! We'll see new players, new tactics, new matches, new business
partnerships... really the door is wide open.
As such, I've decided to compile a list of 2012 predictions.
Manchester United's week has gone from bad to worse.
After being eliminated from the UEFA Champions League in the group stage, United got word Friday
that centerback Nemanja Vidic will miss the remainder of the season after suffering ligament damage
in his right knee.
Vidic suffered the injury at the end of the first half of United's UCL finale against FC Basel
Wednesday while battling Marco Streller for the ball.

Stanford's women's soccer team has completed its climb up the NCAA ladder. Finally.
After falling in the national title game in each of the last two seasons, Stanford held off Duke
to capture the 2011 title with a 1-0 victory in Kennesaw, Ga.

Remember the span of time in 2009 and towards the end of 2010 World Cup qualifying when the
United States had a home match at Rio Tinto against El Salavador before going on the road against a
Trinidad & Tobago side whose quality in that game was going to be a crapshoot?
If you recall that match like I do a missed clearance by Jonathan Bornstein that led to an El
Salvadorian goal, a few moments of attacking pressure at the end of the first half which scantily
provided the winning difference than you are quite comfy with at least the notion of new US manager
Jurgen Klinsmann attempting to implement a style of play here for the United States in the
friendlies leading up to World Cup qualifying.
- DaMarcus Beasley and other American exports miss out on the Mexican league playoffs.
With the number of Americans south of the border, it's surprising only three will see time in
the playoffs. (Americans in the Mexican league will receive deeper analysis and description at a
later date, once the off-season transfer dust settles.
Juergen Klinsmann picked 22 players for the U.S. men's national team friendlies at France on
Nov. 11 (3 p.m. ET, ESPN2, Univision, ESPN3.com) and Slovenia on Nov. 15 (noon ET, ESPN2,
Galavision, ESPN3.com).
A few surprises but mostly what you would expect from Klinsmann at this point. It seems as
though Orozco Fiscal has replaced Jonathan Bornstein as the weird defensive call-up that makes no
sense.

Michael Bradley may not currently be a starter on the U.S. men's national team, but he'll have a
big chance to show head coach Jurgen Klinsmann that he's ready for more minutes.

One the most memorable moments of the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign was its last.
Jonathan Bornstein's goal in the 95th minute gave the U.S. an emotional 2-2 draw against Costa Rica
and a first-place finish in the group. Any great moment in sports can be punctuated by an equally
engaging goal call, as you'll hear in the following two clips.
"No, not him! Give us Barabbas!" -- John 18:40Friendlies in international soccer do funny things to
a man, particularily those played after midnight on East Coast time.Somewhere in the second half of
last Friday's disappointing USMNT 1-0 loss at the hands of Costa Rica my mind started wondering if
Jonathan Bornstein would actually be an upgrade over Edgar Castillo at left back?
Jonathan Bornstein came back earlier than expected after PRP therapy
Jonathan Bornstein was one of the first soccer players in the USA to undergo Platelet Rich
Plasma therapy, now known commonly as PRP. Blood was drawn from the Chivas player and then
centrifuged leaving mostly platelets.
Orange Slices! USA vs. Costa Rica
Orange Slices is our game day, catch-all post that we update throughout the day and also
serves as the place for you to drop comments like, "I can't believe Klinsmann started 12
midfielders from the Primera!".
HDC is now Klinsmann country as the Jurgen era takes off in full steam for World Cup 2014.
Remember the last time the USA faced Costa Rica?
It was the last game of 2010 FIFA World Cup Qualifying, the U.S. Men's National Team taking on
Los Ticos on Oct. 14, 2009 with a chance to finish in first place in the group. After
securing a spot in South Africa with a nail-biting win against Honduras, the USA was on its way to
the World Cup.
The Chicago Fire have now played all four of their scheduled games against the 2011 MLS
Expansion teams. Their final record against the Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps is 0 wins,
1 draw, and 3 losses while getting outscored 9-5. Each expansion team even defeated the Fire 4-2 at
one point.
In my life - outside of family - there are three people who have influenced me the most, whom I can
point to as being a true role model for me. One was Paul Oberjuerge, my former editor at The San
Bernardino Sun, who gave me my start in journalism and allowed me to cover soccer back in 1998. The
other was a trainer I had at my local gym, whom you will hear about soon enough.

What lineup will Jurgen Klinsmann use tonight in his USMNT debut against Mexico?
We'll all have to wait and see of course, and another thing we'll have to wait and see about is
what players Klinsmann will rely heavily on during his time as US coach.
Might those players be on the field tonight against Mexico?

Lets all take a moment today to think about San Jose's Steven Lenhart and his family who are going

Houston made it official announcing the signing of a loan deal for 29 year old Honduran forward

It's a USMNT spectacular this week as Amanda and Kirsten review the firing of Bob Bradley and
the appointment of Jurgen Klinsmann. They discuss the winners and losers with the coaching change
and pour one out for Jonathan Bornstein's national team career, after getting excited for the
possibilities for Stuart Holden and Baby Robot.
"We are ourselves" — that's what Jürgen Klinsmann wanted to teach the players of Bayern
Munich. He wanted them to "open up"; he wanted to get to know them, to "look inside" them, to meet
their emotional needs. It was a philosophy of liberation — of helping players to get beyond the
inhibitions of consciousness, back to some easy inner self.
The USMNT might finally get someone who can teach them to dive

DaMarcus Beasley signed with Puebla earlier this summer in the hopes of reviving his club
career, and that challenge begins for him this weekend.
Puebla opens its Apertura campaign on Saturday against Atlas, and Beasley will hope to make his
first start for the club.

Gold Cup 2011 had its ups and downs for the USMNT, and, unfortunately, it ended on the latter.
*U.S. Soccer announced today an 8 p.m. Sept. 2 friendly against Costa Rica at Home Depot Center
that will air on ESPN2.
Tickets go on sale July 15 starting at $20.
It's a rare non-January friendly in Southern California against a Latin American team, which
U.S. Soccer officials customarily attempt to avoid because of their fan support here.
With 17 games already played, tonight's game against Chivas USA represents the beginning of the
second half of the 34 game season for the Chicago Fire. A win and everything else going Chicago's
way tonight would inconceivable put the Fire in the last qualification spot for the MLS Playoffs
leading into Sunday, July 3rd.
So we used an it's-worth-a-shot expansion draft pick on Robbie Findley which probably isn't
going to bear fruit, but we also used one on Jonathan Bornstein and there may actually be some
opportunity there.
Now we're all mad at him right now because he got scorched against Mexico, but I think Bornstein
is a guy who could come in and provide some (international) experience and talent in our defense
and replace an underwhelming (God bless him) Rodney Wallace.

1. Bob Bradley's lineup will look a lot like the one we saw against Panama, with a couple of
exceptions. While it would be ideal to start Clint Dempsey up top, the decision is really between
Juan Agudelo and Sacha Kljestan. Since Sacha had a fairly bad game against Panama, we're going to
say Juan gets the nod.

I don't honestly think I'll tak about the US-Mexico game. I watched bits and pieces of it during
the FC Dallas-Portland Timbers game on Saturday. Either way you spill it the US got sucked into a
black hole once Jonathan Bornstein came onto the pitch.
