Sporting KC got their first preseason game under their belts today when they took on the San Jose
Earthquakes today down in Arizona. The two teams started the game with what would likely be
considered their first team lineup. Both teams got things started quickly in the game. The Quakes
grabbed the lead inside the first 5 minutes, as Chris Wondolowski finished off a cross from Marvin
Chavez.

The San Jose Earthquakes believe that they have found another compliment to Chris Wondolowski
with the signing of Turkish forward Sercan Güvenışık.
The 31-year-old German league veteran impressed the Earthquakes during a two month trial with
the club last season, which included scoring two goals in a reserve match against the Los Angeles
Galaxy.
The Colorado Rapids kick off defense of the 2010 MLS Cup tonight in conditions reminiscent of
the night the team won the title in Toronto in November.
It will be chilly in Dick's Sporting Goods Park for the 8 p.m. battle with the Columbus Crew.
But there will be plenty of heat on the field for the Rapids.

I am back on the expansion draft list bandwagon this afternoon. I've been working here and there
this week on compiling several club's lists. Currently I am only working on teams that are
eliminated from playoff contention though next week we'll have plenty more as teams fail to advance
in the post season will be up to eight and then up to 12 when the wildcard round ends.
A massive crowd of 64,140, the third largest standalone crowd in MLS history, came to pay
tribute to the Sounders' retiring goalkeeper Kasey Keller on Saturday and they were treated to a
dramatic come-from-behind 2-1 victory for the Sounders over the San Jose Earthquakes.
Seattle overcame a plucky San Jose side and a 24th-minute strike from Chris Wondolowski, getting
goals Sammy Ochoa and Fredy Montero in the 82nd minute and 87th minute, respectively.
Kasey Keller's night was nearly perfect. He is ending his club career in a fashion where anyone
would be happy for him to still be playing. From saves of snap headers, to a sequence that is
reminsent of that epic match against Brazil he was as good as he's even been in MLS. Opportune
finishing by Sammy Ochoa tied the game and started the climax of an amazing night of soccer and
spectacle.
Note: Dave's asked me to fill in on the recap since everyone
else is at the match. Here goes nothing...
Well then. For eighty minutes, the Sounders were flat in front of a record crowd at CenturyLink
Field, allowing the visiting San Jose Earthquakes to grab a 1-0 first half lead and never really
looking like recovering.
Saturday night's game will be one of those where in a decade there will be twice as many people
in the stadium as CenturyLink Field actually fits. Celebrating an American Legend in wearing a
Seattle Sounders kit will do that. Much less significant is the contest for the Golden Boot
featuring Fredy Montero and Chris Wondolowski, the MVP runs of any of three Sounders (Montero,
Osvaldo Alonso, Mauro Rosales) and the least significant trophy Seattle can capture in a year the
Heritage Cup.
The New England Revolution hosted the San Jose Earthquakes Saturday night in a make up game from
early August. New England was eliminated from the playoffs a few weeks ago, and in a strange
circumstance, the Quakes needed Los Angeles to secure a win or at least draw against New York
during the week to keep their playoffs hopes alive.
Sporting KC had a chance to really move away from some of the teams in the Eastern Conference, but
some poor finishing on the few chances created against the San Jose Earthquakes kept them from
taking all 3 points. In a game that was fairly unexciting for much of the game turned wild in the
85th minute as San Jose grabbed the lead only for Teal Bunbury to equalize 30 seconds later to give
the teams a share of the points.
Sigh. Another game, another lack of attack until its too late, another failure to win. The Rapids
spent a good 60 minutes doing essentially nothing in the offensive third, and by then they were
down 1-0. They showed some life in the last 30 minutes and were somewhat unlucky not to find two
goals, but at the same time they were lucky to get one.

Just when the Colorado Rapids needed a win the most to hold serve in the Western Conference
playoff race, they came up short once again.
Despite a late goal off a corner kick from defender Drew Moor, the Rapids' winless streak was
stretched to five games as they tied the San Jose Earthquakes, 1-1, in front of their home
fans.
Teams earn a share of the points in a tie, but rarely do they toil for it like the Colorado
Rapids did on Saturday night.
The record book will show that Chris Wondolowski scored an unassisted goal for San Jose in the
18th minute, and Drew Moor delivered an unassisted equalizer in the 71st. What the stats line will
fail to show is the frenzy and oddity on display at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Quick Recap:
The Portland Timbers and San Jose Earthquakes turn back time and instead of playing the game
take a break as the show a replay of their previous meeting. Portland ties San Jose 1-1.
First Half:
This game started out differently then the New England Game but in the first 9 minutes the
result was the same.
The Dynamo got what they desperately needed on Saturday night against the San Jose
Earthquakes...three points.
It wasn't a foregone conclusion until late and after a first half that saw the Dynamo dominate
possession and still trail going in to the locker room, the team's playoff hopes were all but flat
lined.

At a sold out Buck Shaw Stadium, the Quakes were finally able to end their 13 game winless
streak last night against the Chicago Fire. In the third match against Chicago this season the
Quakes triumphed where they had previously fallen short. The Fire beat the Quakes on penalty kicks
in a US Open Cup game in June at home and in their first MLS meeting 4 days after the USOC match,
the teams drew 2-2.

For three months, the San Jose Earthquakes either lost or drew in 13 consecutive MLS
matches.
The cherished three points were not to be had, time after time.
The Chicago Fire return to action tonight after a long break due to the FIFA International
calendar. Their opponent is a familiar one as the Fire played the San Jose Earthquakes twice in the
last week in May. The first game was the infamous U.S. Open Cup game where Chicago advanced thanks
to San Jose's Scott Sealy hitting the crossbar on the last PK attempt.
The Quakes managed to secure another point on the road last Saturday against Toronto FC in
Toronto. The result marked the 13th game since the Quakes recorded a win in MLS, but the Quakes
were lucky to come out of Toronto with the draw they managed. João Plata managed to slip the
offside trap in the second, half thanks to a nice through ball by Ryan Johnson, and beat Jon Busch
to finish, but the linesman ruled Plata to be offside.
In doing research for a story on Chicago Fire goals this season, I came across a couple of
irregularities on the assist credits for some tallies. The initial press release after a game might
have done something like given a second assist credit to Marco Pappa on Cory Gibbs' header vs. San
Jose when he really didn't do that much to set up Baggio Husidic's ball into the box.
With the Timbers solidly in the playoff race and the results of other matches around the league
increasing in importance, we thought we'd keep you all abreast of the MLS's weekend matchups. We
had a light load this week due to Hurricane Irene, but there were still plenty of matches held this
weekend, some more important than others.
Amazing subplots were cast over MLS action this past weekend. Robbie Keane scored in his debut for
the Galaxy while newly transferred Juan Pablo Angel did the same for Chivas USA. Coming of
brilliant Champion's League success FC Dallas took on Seattle. New York and New England fans were
treated to more of the same from their respective teams and Portland fans found reason to cheer.
David Beckham's launched free kick finds Robbie Keane and the former Spurs man waits for Jon
Busch to make a fool of himself to find an open goal. Nicely timed run by Keane and no, he was not
offside. Busch made a royal mess of it. Galaxy win 2-0 and Keane shows why he will be a big part of
this LA attack.

Not a bad way to start things off for Robbie Keane in Los Angeles.
A new chapter was written into the storied and intense California Clasico rivalry. A first half
strike from the latest big-name acquisition into MLS that was set up by the man that started the
whole conecpt of big-name stars coming to America.

Robbie Keane scored in his debut for the LA Galaxy as the Galaxy defeated the San Jose
Earthquakes 2-0 at the Home Depot Center.
The Ireland international got the start and went 72 minutes appearing dangerous throughout the
match creating a number of chances at the San Jose goal.
Robbie Keane showed his class and goal scoring abilities Saturday as the La Galaxy beat the San
Jose Earthquakes 2-0.
It took Keene only 21 minutes to announce his arrival in MLS when he was sent through by a pass
from Beckham. Keane waited out Quakes goalie Jon Busch, fired home a left-footed shot.
At 10:35 p.m. on Saturday, Colorado Rapids fans got a funny feeling. It's called satisfaction
and it came in the form of a 2-1 win over the stumbling San Jose Earthquakes.
It was satisfying because it was the sort of game the Rapids should win, but the team has
stumbled to get earlier this season and at many times in the past three or four years.

Jeff Larentowicz's low bouncer through the San Jose wall and past goalkeeper Jon Busch in the
72nd minute proved to be the difference as the Colorado Rapids came from behind to defeat the host
San Jose Earthquakes 2-1 Saturday night at Buck Shaw Stadium.
The emergence of Sanna Nyassi as a speedy striker has a been a big part of Colorado's 3-0-1
record since losing Conor Casey for the season to a ruptured Achilles tendon.
What should have felled a team that was struggling to score instead led to a four goal outburst
from Nyassi and 10 points from four games.

Even with a two-year absence from the league, the San Jose Earthquakes remain one of the teams
the Colorado Rapids have faced more often than almost any team in Major League Soccer.
The Rapids have played Los Angeles 55 times and Dallas (first as The Burn and then as FC) 51.
Next on that list is San Jose, which has met Colorado 46 times since that first MLS season in
1996.

There was no separating the San Jose Earthquakes and the traveling Portland Timbers Saturday
night as the two sides slugged out a 1-1 draw at Buck Shaw Stadium. Having initially fallen
behind to a Timbers goal, the hosts clawed their way back into the game to salvage a result.

Dwayne De Rosario reminded everyone on Saturday that he still has plenty left in his tank.
De Rosario scored two top-notch goals and turned in a strong overall performance to lead D.C. to
an important 2-0 victory at San Jose over the weekend, earning SBI MLS Player of the Week
honors.
