In case you haven't heard the news, it appears that the Red Bulls have made a move for their third
Designated Player. Everton FC of the English Premier League announced on their website that
32-year-old attacking midfielder/forward, and Australian international, Tim Cahill, is on his way
to New York.
Orlando City SC returned to the Citrus Bowl for their first official match since winning the USL
Pro Championship this past weekend, and they gave their fans something to cheer about.
Former New York Red Bulls midfielder John Rooney stole the show, scoring two goals and assisting
on another to set the tone for the Lions' 4-1 rout of the Wilmington Hammerheads at the Citrus Bowl
in Orlando, Fla.
A couple weeks ago, I put up the New York Red Bulls roster prior to the beginning of the
off-season. Mr. Soler and Mr. Backe have been busy since then, and over at our facebook page,
members of the Viper's Nest Editorial Board have been clamoring for an updated post to sum up the
salary and roster ramifications of the moves thus far.
Pssst... There's a Massive Clearance Sale on RBNY Reserves! As insane hordes of shoppers rip
each other to shreds in search of bargains, while others remain paralyzed in a Thanksgiving food
coma, the New York Red Bulls are busy reshaping their squad. They got in the holiday spirit early
on Wednesday by axing a half dozen players, none more prominent than midfielder John Rooney, whose
selection in the 2011 MLS Superdraft was a bit of a surprise.
Today's Expansion Draft and Waiver Draft kicked off the MLS offseason today. The New York Red Bulls
waived six seldom seen players today: Alex Horwath(1 G, 90 Min), Mike Jones (1G, 1 Min), Tyler
Lassiter, Marcos Paullo, John Rooney (5 G, 48 Min), and Teddy Schneider. Collectively, this frees
up two international slots, five off-budget slots, and $289,000 in salary cap.
With the expansion draft just two weeks away, Red Bulls fans are debating the merits of who to
protect and who to expose. Presented below, to assist in the discussion, is the current Red Bulls
roster and salaries, according to the MLS Players Union website.

draft. (Getty Images)
It wasn't the year that most had expected out of the New York Red Bulls. A fast started turned
into a long summer drought followed by a late season push into the playoffs. Expectations were high
and the team failed to reach them.
The Portland Timbers struck twice in stoppage time for a dramatic, come-from-behind, 3-2 victory
over the Vancouver Whitecaps in front of an announced crowd of more than 10,000 at JELD-WEN Field
in Sunday's MLS Reserve League match.
Peter Lowry scored the game-winning goal in the waning seconds, finishing off a header from
Steve Purdy to snatch the victory.

#MLScocktails was filled with mostly good laughs, some bitters and a touch of drunken
rage rounded out this hashtag. So many funny ones to choose from, but after parsing through them
all this is a list based on popularity (via RTs) combined with some of my favorites.
With the MLS All Star game set to kick off on Wednesday, July 27th at Red Bull Arena the league
has plenty of great events scheduled. Here is a run down of events leading up to the game;
Sunday July 24
AT&T MLS All-Star Hub: Open to Public from 11 AM to 7 PM.
Good morning, RBNY faithful and faithless! With temperatures expected to reach triple digits around
the NYC area today, and with tomorrow's clash with FC Dallas looming, let's take a look at the
news.
The big news this week is not from the team itself but instead from the supporters.
Happy Carmageddon weekend from Home Depot Center where one press box colleague described the
freeway traffic on the way to the game as being about as busy as it is at 3 a.m.
I heard of no problems for Galaxy fans on the Harbor (110) Freeway heading to the friendly
against Real Madrid at the Coliseum that just kicked off, too, although I wasn't taking any
chances, which is one reason I'm at the HDC (although a game that actually means something is far
preferable to watching Kaka et al wander around for 45 minutes).
After heading home in the middle of their four match road trip earlier this week, the New York
Red Bulls took on their first opponents in the 2011 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup -- FC New York.
This would be the first time since 1999 when this club, either as the MetroStars or Red Bulls,
would face a side from the five boroughs.
FC New York gave the New York Red Bulls a scare, going up 1-0 in the second half, but the Red
Bulls were up to task scoring two quick goals to advance to the in the US Open Cup.
After being largely invisble in the first half, Corey Hertzog and John Rooney both responded
with second half goals to secure a spot in the quarterfinals against the Chicago Fire.
Good Afternoon! Another beautiful one here in RBNY Land. The Red Bulls are back in action today
(against the Revs) in a must-win game before a brutal 4 game road trip. Before tonight's game,
however, let's examine some of the RBNY related happenings of the past week.
What is there to say about this friggin game. My colleague, Matt Conroy (aka Who Shot Sam), covered
this debacle thoroughly yesterday, so check that out if you haven't done so already. I will say
that I'm in total agreement with those who said this one felt like a loss. Just totally f'ng
inexcusable that two Columbus rookies (Meram & Balchan) managed to combine for the equalizing goal,
seconds from this game's end.
Sporting KC have a quick turnaround and are back in action again tomorrow only 2 days after their
2-1 win over San Jose. Back at Livestrong Sporting Park, KC will take on Orlando City in the 3rd
round of the US Open Cup. Last year in the 4th round of the cup, KC suffered their first loss at
LSP, losing 2-0 to USL Pro side, the Richmond Kickers.
The Charlotte Eagles were unsuccessful in picking up their first win of the season versus
Antigua Barracuda FC last week, but they learned their lesson and made sure that was not the case
in their rematch this past weekend.
Playing in their second game against the Barracudas in three days, the Eagles claimed their
first win of 2012 with a 2-0 result that was watched by 800 fans at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in
Antigua.
Toronto FC manager Aron Winter has admitted that he is far from happywith his side as the start of
the new season gets ever closer; something which does not bode well for those looking to bet on
soccer games in their favour.Toronto produced a poor display in the 2-2 draw against Orlando City
inthe Disney Pro Soccer Classic and have just over a week left before they facethe LA Galaxy in the
first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarter-finals.

Forza Violas!
Toronto FC started their official preseason friendly schedule tonight in the group stage of the
Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic. The opponents were none other than the local club and USL Pro
Division Champions Orlando City. Since, like TFC, we are shaking off preseason rust, here are some
shoddy highlights instead of a post-match report from tonight's action.
The U.S. Open Cup often brings about surprise results, and Tuesday's second-round of the
new-look tournament was no different.
Three amateur sides are alive after pulling second-round upsets of USL Pro clubs. USASA club Cal
FC, coached by Eric Wynalda, got two more goals from former UCSB and U.
Yesterday we saw the release of the players who will be involved in the 2012 MLS Combine. It was
quite the impressive list of 52 players and one that we here at Stumptown Footy will be pouring
over as we look for potential candidates for the Timbers #8 pick in the 2012 SuperDraft.
One thing to note is that this is not the full list of players that will be involved in the 2012
MLS SuperDraft.
With the 2011 season officially over and the Expansion Draft having come and gone we've begun to
see many trades and player movements throughout MLS, including our own Portland Timbers who have
dropped a number of players and are bringing on a new DP in the coming days/weeks.
But with all that done, there's still one huge event looming on the horizon: the 2012 MLS
SuperDraft.
The Union played Costa Rica Primera Division-leading Municipal Perez Zeledon on Sunday, losing
1–0. With no news about the game yet forthcoming from the Union, so far the only information that
can be learned is from an article from Costa Rican news site al Dia that is actually about the
friendship between Josue Martinez and Porfirio Lopez, and a very grainy 59 second video clip posted
on YouTube attributed to Costa Rican soccer website Everardo Herrera.
Yesterday he's going, today he is staying. An article from sportinglife.com suggests that Le
Toux "did not impress sufficiently" at Bolton. Owen Coyle is quoted in the article, "Sebastien came
in for a couple of days, and to be fair to him he hadn't trained for four or five weeks.
The Shin Guardian invited Philly Soccer Page to write a preview of Thursday night's Philadelphia
Union game against New York. And when the Shin Guardian calls, it is PSP's Adam Cann who answers
the call.
Among the topics covered are:
John Harkes Keys to the Game "Thursday's predicted Harkes' Keys: 1) Stop Le Toux, 2) Don't
Give Up Goals 3) Marquez Something Something.
The second step in the MLS offseason also occurred today as MLS teams waived players to make
room on their rosters. Not surprisingly Portland did not waive a single player but quite a few
other teams did waive players. Including Vancouver, who waived 3 players and Toronto, who waived 7
players.
All of the waived players are now free to sign with any club in any country they wish.
Today also marked the start of the waiver period in MLS. This kind of thing probably will
continue to get flushed out a little more over time now that the league has the Re-Entry drafts
that will be coming up in the next couple of weeks. For the most part any of these players below
just weren't good enough or were too pricy to be apart of that Re-Entry Draft.
PPL Park will host an international friendly between Ghana and Chile on Feb 29, in  a match
showing two teams that played in the 2010 World Cup. Ticket prices range from $40 to $150. It's the
first match between two international teams at PPL Park that doesn't feature a U.S. national team.
The 29th is an international fixture date, which means professional clubs are likely to release
their players for the game, so rosters could include such stars as Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez and
Michael Essien of Chelsea.
It was the best of times... it was the only times
A hectic day in MLS continued after the Expansion Draft ended, with clubs announcing what players
they had waived from their 2011 rosters. Only Columbus, Dallas, Philadelphia and Salt Lake had no
names to add to a waiver list that now includes players like John Rooney and Jefferson Goncalves.
