Funny how you can look at the same thing in different ways. Last Thursday at the Cottage Clint
Dempsey headed a third and there we were thinking 'that's nice' and dreaming ahead to where we
might end up in the group stages. Then tonight the same two teams had it out in Ukraine and Fulham
can thank their lucky stars that they didn't lose the tie.
New first team squad numbers are out.
The curse of the 'proper' numbers continues, as John Arne Riise vacates the number seven shirt
recently not worn by Seol, Andranik, and... who had it last year (ed. Sidwell)? In any case, such
a prestigious number needs an equally prestigious owner, and Fulham simply haven't come up with
one.
Or something.
The news here is that Hughes will not be keeping six players. This is no great surprise.
The desperate half-dozen:
John Paintsil
Zoltan Gera
Eddie Johnson
Diomansy Kamara
Bjorn-Helge Riise
Kagisho Dikgacoi
JP seems well out of favour so this is no great shock.
A tale of two shins. John Paintsil's diverted a muddled ball over his own goal-line; later
Raul Mereiles' sliced a powerful Hangeland header away from danger. Liverpool's revival under
King Kenny gathers pace; Mark Hughes will realise that his team is finding good form and will
surely pick up plenty of points from now on.
