So, thanks to my man Dan Loney, I am reminded that Soccer Hall of Fame ballots
are due tonight. Last year, I apparently had until early December. Caught me off guard.
Anyway, last year I voted for Jeff Agoos, Mauricio Cienfuegos, Raul Diaz Arce, Marco
Etcheverry, Joy Fawcett, Robin Fraser, Pato Margetic, Victor Nogueira, Preki Radosavljevic
and Carlos Valderrama.

It's hard to decline as a club after being an expansion team in 2008 but the 2009 version of the
San Jose Earthquakes did just that. They became the first team to lose more in their second season
than in their expansion season.

I don't have too much going into tonight's Evening Links and Thoughts. I mainly wanted to touch
base with the current coaching hot seat situation in Major League Soccer. I don't expect any
coaching changes to take place until at least after the regular season finishes here. Something
crazy would have to take place for any of these teams below to even think about making a switch
with so few games left.

Somehow this man still has a job. (Getty Images)
In light of Kansas City dismissing manager Curt Onalfo yesterday evening, I figured it was high
time I updated my coaching hot seat look once again. Funny thing was yesterday I was already set to
work on this and got caught up in something else, by the time I went back into it last night the
news came down about Onalfo.

credit to San Jose general manager John Doyle and head coach Frank Yallop for trying here. Today
they've made another move in signing Brazilan midfielder Andre Luiz Moreira.

What to make of our last place teams?
San Jose shipped out Nick Garcia and Cam Weaver in exchange for Chris Wondolowski and their real
target, salary cap space. John Doyle, my VERY FAVORITE PERSON IN THE WORLD, wouldn't tell Jeff
Carlisle who they were looking at. Understandable, but right now there are way more reasons to go
see the Gold Pride than the Earthquakes.

Is this an American thing?
If you can't even win ugly, at least lose cheap.
Maybe it is Win Ugly's uglier cousin.
Here's the back drop:

the bottom of the table. Out of a dozen games they've lost 7 and only picked up 9 points.

Frank Yallop's seat is getting awfully warm these days. The no-longer-expansion San Jose
Earthquakes continue to stink up the place as they were defeated by the Columbus Crew 2-1 on
Wednesday night. The loss runs their record to an abysmal 1-7-2 on the year, worst in the league
behind even lowly FC Dallas.

Ian Wright Challenges John Doyle/English FA archives
Fifteen years ago today in Foxboro, MA the US National Team recorded one of its most important pre World Cup 1994 victories with a 2-0 win over England. For me personally as a US Soccer supporter, this was the match that proved to both myself and other die in wool US supporters that we could compete at a high level internationally.

The San Jose Earthquakes have released their new-ish logo. The differences from the old logo are
slight but they are there (new on top, old on bottom of image). The top of the logo has little
wings, the Earthquake no longer has a richter line through it and the colors are a little
different; other then that, not much has changed.
The other big news out of the new team from San Jose is the hire of John Doyle as General Manager
of Soccer Operations.
