Liverpool legend striker John Aldridge says that the current Liverpool side under Brendan Rodgers are playing the club's best attacking soccer since the 1980′s.
"That's not to say the team is as good, of course, but their commitment to passing football, the variety in their play and the way in which they attack teams is a joy to watch at times," said Aldridge, in his Liverpool Echo column.
John Aldridge has urged Liverpool's owners to splash £20million on signing both Theo Walcott and Demba Ba during the January transfer window. The former striker feels the club's transfer policy has not been particularly successful in recent years with millions spent on the likes of Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll.
John Aldridge's take on Luis Suarez's racial abuse of Patrice Evra has always been embarrassing, but after reading his latest Sunday World column, it appears as though it's not just his Liverpool bias which has lead him to look like an ignorant prick when it comes to racism.
To give you some context to Sunday's column, here is a selection of some of Aldridge's most ridiculous remarks on the issue, which come from several different articles he has written.
For the second time in four years, Liverpool and Everton had both made it to the FA Cup final,
but with tragedy at Hillsborough just five weeks in the past there were serious doubts as to
whether the game should go ahead. The fans, though, made it clear to the club they wanted to go.
And so Liverpool went, combining with their local rivals to put on one of the most dramatic FA Cup
finals in history.
Liverpool's Captain Steven Gerrard was in Ireland this weekend to promote, not the team, but a
charity for Autism.

The Anfield legend appeared on Ireland's longest running chat show 'The Late late show'

Defender who won the FA Cup with both Everton and Liverpool Such is the rivalry between
Liverpool and Everton that footballers rarely play for both Merseyside clubs, but Gary Ablett, who
has died aged 46 of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, enjoyed long and happy spells with the two sides.
Craig Bellamy is the 'signing of the season' - according to former Liverpool striker John
Aldridge.
Bellamy returned to Anfield on a free transfer in the summer and netted his third goal of the
campaign to set the Reds on their way to three points at Villa Park on Sunday,
After picking up the man of the match award as he helped Liverpool move to within three points of
the top four, Aldo was fulsome in his praise for the Welsh international.
IT'S that time of year again: the Christmas tree is up or at least threatening to be, the snow
is falling or at least threatening to, and the streets are packed with frantic shoppers threatening
to do things to the next person to get in their way as they search frantically for the ideal
pressie for their loved ones, never quite sure if the loved one in question already has that
particular one anyway.
Why Saint Trap is due an apology and Evertonians should not turn on their
own
I hope those Irish fans who have given Giovanni Trapattoni stick for his style of play will
now send him an apology. Taking his squad to a European Championship finals is a massive
achievement.

Former Anfield forward not particularly impressed with Liverpool under his former boss.
Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has insisted his old club are "in a crisis" following last
weekend's defeat by Newcastle — their sixth loss in seven Premier League games.
Liverpool have won this season's League Cup — their first trophy in six years — and return to
Wembley a week on Saturday for an FA Cup semi-final with Merseyside rivals Everton.
Luis Suarez has been back in action for twenty-five minutes, and he's already lucky he hasn't
been banned two or four or seventeen more times. In related news, the buildup to a match against
Manchester United is always so very much fun...
* In amongst all the excitement over Kenny Dalglish reminding the world that the club
never thought Suarez' ban was an entirely appropriate punishment, following Monday's match there
was an even more ridiculous Suarez b-plot that popped up when Wayne Rooney hopped on Twitter to
suggest that the Liverpool striker should be banned for his mis-timed kick to Scott Parker's
midriff.
Jose Enrique has been excellent for Liverpool football club since arriving from Newcastle United,
and he has (arguably) proven to the most consistent of all Kenny Dalglish's summer signings. John
Aldridge is a big fan of the player, but he believes the Spaniard's form has tailed off a little
over the last few weeks.
It's the 60th minute at Wembley. Glorious sunshine stream down on the immaculate playing surface.
Kenny Dalglish watches on from the sidelines as the ever-reliable John Aldridge steps up take a
penalty...I don't even need to finish the sentence because all Liverpool fans know exactly what
game I'm talking about.
Liverpool legend John Aldridge has urged Liverpool to forget about the 'disappointing' result
against Stoke last weekend and concentrate on getting a much-needed victory against Bolton
today.Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Aldo insisted that Liverpool must take three points against
Bolton today:"The Stoke game was so disappointing for everybody concerned but we must move on now.
Liverpool have been linked with dozens of strikers over the last month, but John Aldridge believes
that Kenny Dalglish may have already missed out on a potential solution to the club's current
goalscoring woes. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Aldo argued that Liverpool should've followed the
example of Arsenal and Manchester United and brought back one the club's former players:"Robbie

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has suggested that Brazilian defender Fabio Aurelio will definitely
leave Anfield this summer.Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Aldridge questioned Kenny Dalglish's
decision to play Fabio Aurelio ahead of Jon Flanagan in the club's recent FA Cup victory over
Oldham at Anfield:"I thought it was a strange decision not to start him ahead of Fabio Aurelio.
Liverpool goalscoring legend John Aldridge seems to be losing patience with Andy Carroll, and he's
once again called on the striker to improve in one crucial area of his game.Aldridge recently
insisted that Carroll's positioning was 'poor' and his tactical awareness was 'frustrating', and
after watching him play against Newcastle last week, Aldo's frustration with the beleaguered player

Liverpool goalscoring legend John Aldridge has admitted that he's 'in despair' over his old club's
inability to finish teams off, and he's warned that if things don't improve, the club could
struggle to finish in the top 4. In his column for the Liverpool Echo, Aldo was typically
forthright in his assessment of Liverpool's current situation.
Liverpool legend John Aldridge has revealed that he is worried that star-striker Luis Suarez could
leave Anfield as a result of the 8-match ban he's received over the Patrice Evra situation.Speaking
on Liverpool-based Radio City a few minutes ago, Aldridge argued that Suarez 'could walk away from
the club' after being labelled a racist by the FA.
Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger have proved to be a superb defensive partnership for Liverpool over
the last month, and their excellent performances have helped the club achieve the best defensive
record in the league.Liverpool legend John Aldridge recently described Skrtel as an 'accident
waiting to happen', but in his weekly column for the Liverpool Echo, the former striker seemed to

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has staunchly defended summer signing Stewart Downing all season,
arguing that the former Villa winger will come good at some stage. However, after yet another game
yesterday without a goal or assist, Aldo's confidence in Downing appears to be waning a little.
Jay Spearing, Jordan Henderson and Jonjo Shelvey are the obvious candidates to cover Lucas Leiva
whilst he recovers from his cruciate ligament injury, but Liverpool legend John Aldridge believes
that Kenny Dalglish should look to his defenders for a viable solution. Is he right? In his column
for the Liverpool Echo, Aldo argued:"Kenny also has other options which people may not have
considered
In light of Liverpool's continued problems in front of goal, former Anfield striker David
Fairclough has has called on Kenny Dalglish to sign a proven goalscorer in the January transfer
window.
Fairclough, who scored 55 goals for Liverpool during his time at Anfield, argued:
"The goalscoring issue is a major talking point at the moment, and you have to address that I
think.
Since his summer transfer from Newcastle, Jose Enrique has put in some exceptional performances for
Liverpool, but his former Manager Alan Pardew has suggested that the Spaniard may be partly to
blame for Andy Carroll's struggled at Anfield.
Pardew, whose Newcastle team is three points head of Liverpool in the table, observed:
"I had an issue with Enrique putting the ball into the box for him [Carroll].
Martin Skrtel is a star performer in Liverpool's defence at the moment, and he's kept defensive
stalwart Jamie Carragher out of the team with his solid, assured performances. However, according
to Liverpool legend John Aldridge, Skrtel's form has been a concern in the past, and he has a
theory about why the Slovakian is currently playing so well.

Earlier in the season, Liverpool legends Graeme Souness and Ray Houghton expressed concern about
Luis Suarez's tendency to go down too easily, and John Aldridge has now joined them in highlighting
this unfortunate aspect of the Uruguayan's game.
During the 2-0 victory against Everton in October, Suarez was fouled by Jack Rodwell, and his
reaction played a part in the Everton player being sent off (the red card was subsequently
rescinded).
Liverpool legend Gary Gillespie has hailed the talent of Liverpool reserve-team striker Adam
Morgan, comparing him to goal-poacher extraordinaire John Aldridge.
Gillespie played alongside Aldridge in the 1980s, so he's well qualified to make such a lofty
comparison:
"I've likened him [Morgan] to John Aldridge more than anyone else I've seen.
According to OPTA stats, Stewart Downing is second only to Charlie Adam when it comes to setting up
shots for his team-mates. Shot assists are great, but the fact remains that the England
International has now gone 15 hours without scoring or creating a goal for Liverpool. Anfield
legend John Aldridge has some sympathy for Downing's plight.
Okay, put your knives away and hear me out! Luis Suarez is a fantastic player but is it possible
that the team could benefit more if he was played in a slightly different position?
Suarez has undoubtedly had a great impact on Liverpool since arriving, but as we've seen, he's
quite wasteful in front of goal, and (arguably) doesn't score as often as he should.
Anfield legend John Aldridge has warned that the current Liverpool team's wastefulness in front of
goal could prove costly at the end of the season, and he believes that Kenny Dalglish's team is
missing a player with one very important, sought after quality.
Aldridge, who scored an incredibly clinical 63 goals in 104 appearances for Liverpool,
observed:
"If we want to get in the top four then we can't afford to be so wasteful.
