If everything goes as expected in the next two weeks, Toronto FC players will be packing their bags
and heading home for 2009 while many of their rivals prepare for the playoffs. What happened this
season? There was such promise back in spring but it quickly slid into mediocrity - all that was
left was a look ahead to 2010.

Big Story
Danny Dichio's retirement last Wednesday meant emotions ran high during
the 24th minute of the first half during Toronto FC's 3-2 win against the Colorado Rapids yesterday
at BMO Field. It was the 24th minute when Dichio scored Toronto FC's first ever club goal against
the Chicago Fire on May 13th 2007, and fans in the south stand have chanted his name at the same
minute of play at every home game ever since.

Just days after talks with us had broken down, defender Chris Pozniak signed with cross-country
rivals Vancouver Whitecaps.
After Kevin Harmse was traded to Chivas, Pozniak was spotted training with us and many, myself
included, hoped he would be set for a return to TFC. It wasn't to be however, as apparently we were
having "salary cap" issues.

Here's a trade that went rather unmentioned yesterday. Toronto FC traded defender Kevin Harmse
to Chivas USA in exchange for allocation money.
Toronto continues their summer clear out of their roster, making this the third forth player to
be released or traded away. Harmse has a MLS home still unlike Johann Smith, Rohan Ricketts and
Gregg Sutton who were released from their contracts earlier this month.

Word is Toronto FC released young American prodigy Johann Smith. Maybe he's more of a project than
previously thought.
I know some Sounders FC were hoping Seattle picked this kid up in the expansion draft way back
when. Who might be interested in a hug from this kid now?

The Toronto FC roster is likely to look a little different in the coming weeks, as Director of
Soccer Mo Johnston is again wheeling and dealing in hopes of improving his club's fortunes. A few
personnel moves have already been announced, while a few others are rumored to be in the works.
It started last week when TFC traded their third-round pick in next year's MLS SuperDraft for
established defender Nick Garcia and the rights to Canadian international Ali Gerba.

Toronto FC released Johann Smith today from their roster. A young (22) depth player who has spent
less than a year with Toronto, most fans will wish him well. However, he did not seem to build on
his scattered appearances. Smith had speed and energy in abundance, but all other categories needed
a top-up.

While following the U.S. Open Cup, congratulating Aly Wagner on her face no longer looking like a

Toronto FC announced today that Johann Smith has been waived. This is probably to help make room
for Ali Gerba.
We signed Smith last August on the day the transfer window closed, and Laurent Robert was released
to get him. In fact, if I recall correctly, we sent New England an international spot to move up in
the allocation order in order to acquire Smith.

Johann Smith is no longer a member of Toronto FC. The club announced on Tuesday that they had
waived the forward after less than a year with the club. Smith had 14 appearances with Toronto
after joining them last August. Four of those came this season, with three starts. He had
previously been a member of Bolton Wanderers and was a product of their youth system.

Hello, i have just received a call from a source at toronto fc. They told me that Johann Smith is
no longer with the team. Whether this be cap room for gerba or smith, or a trade or whatever, the
source has told me that Johann is no longer a part of Toronto FC.

Yes, that's right. Another J. Smith. Scottish winger Jamie Smith, currently at Aberdeen, is being
linked to us by the Evening Express, as well as by this article from the Telegraph.
I've never seen Smith play, but from what I can gather, he's a short guy, and he likes to take on
defenders and has a very direct approach to his play.

According to Tribal Football:
Johann Smith is currently on trial with Croatian club NK Rijeka.
The Toronto FC midfielder joined the club in August 2008 from Bolton. Smith is unhappy with his
base salary of $36,000 and is looking for a return to Europe.
During his time at Bolton, Smith spent time on loan with Carlisle, Darlington and
Stockport. Click to continue reading...
As I mentioned in my last post, I'm in the middle of moving into residence at York University,
which means that this preview is going to be a little shorter than I would like it to be.
Tonight marks the opening match of a home and home series with Chivas USA. Unfortunately for
TFC, a home and home includes a road game.

As I'm sure you've noticed, the promises I delivered about contributing regular articles and
even live blogs during my time in Germany were as empty as...well as a net after Cunningham has had
a breakaway. The live blogs were not possible for various reasons:
Colorado: I couldn't get a consistent feed (just like the TFC strikers, but
thankfully one of them buried a deadly set piece)
New York: I was on an 8 hour train ride home from Freiburg, where I watched the
season opener of my other team, 1860 Munich.

New York: The bids the club placed for foreign based strikers were rejected, so it appears that the
Red Bulls will be going even harder after Macoumba Kandji of the Silverbacks. The issue at this
point is acquiring enough allocation money through the league to pay Atlanta's approximate $200,000
transfer fee.

youngster plucked from American shores by United in the last several years.

Football is a funny game. The US Copa America Team played Argentina toe to toe for 65 minutes on

Young American Johann Smith is injured and will miss the entire tournament.
Apparently he strained his ankle during the recent closed-door scrimmage versus New Zealand. His
replacement, Preston Zimmerman, has already arrived with the squad in Canada. Johann must be pretty
upset.
This is alarming, both because the world will not get a good look at this talented young American
during the scouting orgy that is U-20 WC, and also because Smith is a focal point of the US U-20
attack.

Soccerlens mentioned him as one of Bolton Wanderers three best young prospects. I would love to see
