News Round Up

The Offside - Bolton Wanderers 16 November @ 06:04 PM EST

Sorry I haven't been around lately, it's been a bit hectic over here recently. Luckily it was an international break and nothing much happened in my absence, but I now dutifully bring you what did.

As you may have read in TheSpoiler (highly recommended by the way), Darius Vassell, ex-Man City striker, has been experience a few bumps over in Turkey.

Aston Villa v. Bolton

The Offside - Bolton Wanderers 05 November @ 07:12 PM EST

So this is probably the earliest I've ever done a match report (3 whole days in advance) and so I can't link you to the BBC statistics report. You'll just have to go find it yourself, it'll be on this page probably by Saturday. Like I said a little earlier, I'm going over to England and won't have internet until I get back (I'm staying at my grandmother's house and she doesn't allow any technology made after 1972 in), so don't expect any new posts from me until Tuesday at the earliest (there there love, don't pine, you can always go through my archives or go read some of my posts on England World Cup Blog if you miss me too much).

Guest Post: The Chelsea Game

The Offside - Bolton Wanderers 04 November @ 01:04 PM EST

As I mentioned earlier, my father was at the Chelsea game this past Saturday. I had him write my a little guest blog, and as promised here it is.
I arrived at the Reebok in gentle late afternoon sunshine. No, that's not a joke. In fact, you can tell that the stadium was not built with sunshine in mind, since for the first half an hour or so I was there, it was shining directly into my eyes (at first I was so surprised by the unaccustomed glow I thought Wigan must be on fire – no such luck, however), making it hard to concentrate on the cheerleaders.

Bolton v Chelsea Preview

Premiership Talk Blog 30 October @ 10:00 AM EST

Chelsea faces a tricky away trip to the Reebok Stadium to take on Bolton on Saturday. The two sides just clashed this midweek in the Carling Cup with Chelsea running out 4-0 winners. Carlo Ancelotti has been delighted with his side's start to the season, but Bolton has long been a bogey team in the Premier League for the Pensioners.

Something to Be Proud Of! (The Carling Cup Victory)

The Offside - Bolton Wanderers 23 September @ 11:31 PM EST

Well it must be said my mindset on this match was not as optimistic as my match preview might have suggested. I spent all of yesterday talking it down to myself, saying it was only the Carling Cup, and besides if we got knocked out that would only let us focus more on the league and the FA Cup. But honestly I don't think I've been more pleased with Bolton in a really long time, perhaps even since our stunning comeback at Stamford Bridge in April, even though it was just a Carling Cup tie.

Gary Megson Is Unloved and Unwanted

EPL Talk 21 September @ 06:14 PM EST

Well you've got to hand it to him, Gary Megson must have the thickest skin in professional football. I've seen him barracked by his own fans at 4 different clubs over the years and that's some going, even in the fickle world of the football supporter. At a Nottingham Forest game, I saw fans come to blows trying to get to him, at Leicester I saw a fan throw his season ticket at him in his 3rd game in charge.

Will Winter Dampen Ivan Klasnic’s Positivity?

Bolton's newcomer Ivan Klasnic was interviewed for today's match programme and Megson or Gartside made sure he used the word 'positive' in relation to the club's mentality.

The Offside - Bolton Wanderers 07 September @ 11:20 PM EST

Obviously the news has been a little slow this weekend due to the international break.

Cahill Gets His Call Up

The Offside - Bolton Wanderers 03 September @ 01:03 AM EST

One of my favorite Wanderers has traveled to the England training base. Today it was announced that Gary Cahill will be in Fabio Capello's squad for the third and fourth time respectively. England face Slovenia in a friendly match at Wembley on Saturday, then on Wednesday take on Croatia in a World Cup Qualifier also at Wembley, which would assure their place in the tournament if they took away all three points.

Bolton’s Forecast for the Season

The Offside - Bolton Wanderers 24 August @ 11:16 PM EST

Last season was spectacularly mediocre for the Wanderers. With relegation a real possibility for most of the season it was easy to forget that we finished in the last 16 of Europe in 2007-2008. As with many lower table sides they were Jekyll and Hyde, playing like they deserved to finish in the single digits some days, other days playing in a fashion that would embarrass the Championship.

BWFC24's round up of Premier League Previews for the 2009–2010 season which starts tomorrow, Saturday, August 15, 2009.

Overall, the predictions for The Wanderers is fairly grim, as you might expect. On average Bolton are expected to finish around 13th or 14th. Personally I think BWFC will finish higher than expected, hopefully in the top 10 and may reach the semi-finals in either the FA or Leauge Cup.

United versus Bolton Wanderers - Preview

Manchester United v Bolton Wanderers; Old Trafford, Saturday 27th September, 1500.

VdS returns against Bolton after a shaky start to the season with Kuszcak ruled out with a groin injury. There was always a chance United would name rookie keeper Ben Amos in the starting line up but it was felt that thinking man's neanderthal, Kevin Davies, and the aerial bombardment he will undoubtedly receive, would be too much of a fiery baptism.
