Interested in helping out a wonderful community project and possibly rub elbows with Timbers
legends Mick Hoban or Scot Thompson? The Friends of Trees are holding their annual tree planting on
Saturday, February 11, and is inviting Timbers fans and community volunteers to join in the fun.
Timber Joey will be there, but he's helping put trees in the ground, not cutting them down to
celebrate goals.
The Montreal Impact announced on Friday that more than 25,000 tickets were already sold for the
home opener at Olympic Stadium, March 17, against the Chicago Fire.
The Impact are hoping to create a new record for attendance at the Olympic Stadium with
additional sales leading up to the home opener.
Tottenham have invited the six-year-old son of former star striker Steffen Iverson to join their

Rumors have been swirling recently involving German midfielder Michael Ballack possibly making
the move to Major League Soccer.
Ballack, best known for his heroics in the 2002 World Cup Final and time spent with Chelsea and
Bayern Munich, has been linked to the expansion Montreal Impact for the past few months.

The noted rent-a-quote astronomer Carl Sagan once said: "If you wish to make an apple pie from
scratch, you must first invent the universe." After roughly 19 weeks of the 2011-12 Serie A season,
I think that we all can be in agreement that Antonio Conte makes the best apple pies from
scratch.
Mr Arsenal himself would be proud of this team
One last job was required of Arsenal on the last day of 2011 and the job was duly delivered. 3
points was what we wanted to see Arsenal end the year on a high and it was a performance that
deserved exactly that. The win moves us to fourth in the league, just 3 points behind Tottenham and
9 points behind both Manchester clubs.
U.S. Under-23 national team defender Greg Garza has left Under-23 camp in Sarasota, Florida to

The Montreal Impact unveiled their MLS jersey Thursday night, taking the latest step in the run up
to their expansion season.
The primary, blue kit comes with matching blue shorts and is a pretty typical MLS shirt --
sponsor across the front, team crest by the heart, three stripes down either sleeve and MLS and
country flag patches on the sleeves as well.
The Montreal Impact revealed their 2012 jersey on Thursday evening at the Montreal Science Center.

a new club since leaving Portuguese second division side Estoril Praia earlier this year.

During the qualifying process for the 2010 World Cup, France put on a number of disappointing
performances and was forced to get in through the playoff round. On Tuesday, Les Bleus made sure
that wouldn't happen again.
A Samir Nasri penalty in the 78th minute rescued a 1-1 draw for France against
Bosnia-Herzegovina, allowing France to remain in first place in Group D and seal a place in EURO
2012.
Y'all remember when Young Jozy signed my pumpkin? That was a fun night replete with Bruce Arena's
smirks and tequila shots with Joey Vide. Jozy was just a baby then, hadn't even suited up for the
Nats yet if I recall correctly. My how s*** done changed for him (and his former club but that's
another topic entirely).

Last summer, Uruguay shocked the world by advancing all the way to the semifinals of the 2010
World Cup. On Friday, they started their path to the next World Cup in style.
Uruguay, which also won the 2011 Copa America this summer, opened their 2014 World Cup
qualifying campaign in CONMEBOL with a 4-2 win over Bolivia.
University of Wisconsin forward Chris Prince became just the second player to score
against Creighton this season, but the fifth-ranked Bluejays equalized minutes later and beat the
Badgers 2-1 on midfielder Greg Jordan's 35-yard shot in the 94th minute Wednesday night at
the McClimon Complex.
After playing even for a half, Fort Lewis College erupted for three second-half goals and
cruised to a 4-1 win over the Colorado School of Mines in Golden on Friday.
The Skyhawks scored first when Artur Piperkov connected for his first goal of the season 10
minutes into the match. Piperkov banged his shot in from 15 yards out.

Here we have Joe Cole chirruping his way through a chorus of the Cockney standard 'Maybe It's
Because I'm A Londoner' in front of his new Gallic teammates as a kind of initiation
rite/'embarrass the fresh meat' kind of thing (either that or the after-dinner entertainment at
Lille really does suck the big one) and, to be fair to Joey, he gives it the beans.
Joey, we can cope with your occasional tantrums, esoteric and downright confusing Twitter ramblings
and even your dodgy hair-do. But the moustache is too much. Please stop it. Image: Alex

Vote for Timber Joey in the MLS Mascot Finals!
I posted about this a while ago, but it appears that Timber Joey has made it to the finals of
Total-MLS.com's mascot tournament.
He's currently battling against Columbus Crew's Crew Cat and has a solid majority, but he could
always use another vote if you're interested in this sort of thing.
There are no words to aptly sum Philippe Senderos' verbal faux pas.
Immediately going to Joey's Twitter for his reaction, this may or may not be it.

@terencejolley then I decided, to stop thinking and start doing. It's about doing ur little
bit.
Brisket Bob made his debut when Sporting KC defeated the Portland Timbers 3-1 Wednesday night.
Brisket Bob was a fun parody of one of the best traditions in American Soccer, Timber Joey. Dating
back to the late 1970's when Timber Jim started sawing slabs off of huge logs inside the stadium
whenever a Portland player scores.
Arsenal winger Gervinho has had his three match suspension for violent conduct confirmed today by
the FA. The altercation between Gervinho and Barton last Saturday Arsenal had issued an appeal
against the three match ban that the Ivory Coast would receive automatically for the red card he
picked up after an altercation with Newcastle's Joey [.
The Montreal Impact and owner Joey Saputo held a press conference to announce the hiring of Jesse
Marsch as the team's new head coach on Wednesday. Since the departure of Marc Dos Santos earlier
this season, the Impact have been led on the field by current Sporting Director and former coach
Nick De Santis.
Vote for Timber Joey in the MLS Mascot Competition!
I'm really not one for traditional mascots, but Timber Joey is different. Anybody who physically
chainsaws a log during a game is alright by me.
Which is why I urge you guys to vote for Timber Joey at this competition. He's the only one
who's not a suit wearing buffoon made only to appease the kids.
Jeld-Wen Field and Timbers Atmosphere gets reviewed
Not really sure on the legitimacy of the website, but the review was solid with the stadium and
atmosphere earning high or top marks across many categories.
The one thing that irks me is a 1 star for "Extras." There doesn't seem to be anything bad
stated there and I personally think Timber Joey is one bad ass extra.
I'm sure Mike Chabala is down with Timber Joey but Mike Chabala does not need Timber Joey. Mike
Chabala can split his own wood cotdamnit. The hell you think he is? A woodchuck or some sh*t?

Carlos Ruiz is officially leaving the Philadelphia Union, according to the team, but his
destination will not be Veracruz.
Daniel Guzman, head coach of the Tiburones Rojos (Red Sharks), once again addressed rumors that
have linked Ruiz to Veracruz, denying them outright. Back on July 19, the Brotherly Game editor
Joey Samuel reported, via a Veracruz news outlet, that Guzman had finally talked about the possible
transfer - he denied it completely.

In a story sure to warm the cockles of Bill Archer's heart, Joey Saputo is delaying the
renovation of the stadium that bears his last name, presumably because he doesn't want to be
responsible for any costs that the government won't pay for:
So what's actually happened is the province put up $23 million for the stadium
expansion, but nobody was willing to actually do the job for that price.

A little Canadian news for the start of the week. It was reported over the weekend by TSN in
Canada that expansion on Saputo Stadium has been delayed and that the Montreal Impact will not
being their expansion season in MLS next year in it until at least the summer of 2012.
Original planning called for the 13,000 seat stadium to expand to 20,000 by the beginning of the
spring in 2012 but costs and a lack of a suitable builder have caused the delays the club says.

Addressing new transfer rumors, Carlos Ruiz once again denied that he will return to Mexico,
this time on Tiro Libre.
The former Puebla striker talked about reports coming out of Mexico on MLS' Spanish language
podcast, saying that he was well aware of the rumors.
