DCUMD 03 July @ 10:12 AM EST
This is our second of four posts in review of the moves DC United has made since the end of last
season. Last week we looked at their acquisitions, today we'll look at the players who departed,
and then later we'll look at their trades.
1. It's hard to imagine how different DC United's season would be had they retained Marcelo
Gallardo in 2009.

At long last, Namoff is officially back in the fold for the 2009 campaign. And while we're raiding
Goff's cupboard, let's take a look at some DCU dirt he dug up from Dave Kasper. The big news? (1)
We're getting close to landing Walter Martinez and bringing Doe back. They'd both be on loan, but
that's pretty close to filling out our forward depth chart.

D.C. United players love to read. The shots above are from a recent photo shoot conducted at RFK
Stadium for United Reads, one of the signature programs of United for D.C. - the club's non-profit
arm. The photos are going to be used for posters, flyers and the like to encourage reading at

Devon is very, very competitive. He probably made this kid cry (probably).
Remember when we told you last week that Devon McTavish and Joe Vide would be guest bartending
at Jimmy's Old Town Taver in Herndon, VA to benefit United for D.C.? Well, now we have photographic
evidence that the event did, in fact, take place.

Devon McTavish is a busy fellow.
This afternoon (around 5 p.m.), he'll be on DC radio station Mix 107.3 taking part in a little
promo called The Bachelor. Tomorrow, he and teammate Joe Vide will be guestbartending at Jimmy's
Old Town Tavern in Herndon, VA to benefit the club's non-profit arm, United for D.

DC United midfielder Joe Vide in his post-match commentary: It's nice when we're at home and we're
expected to win. We want to be a team that makes it to the playoffs. What? Revised expectations or
clear-headed realism? I've got three possible explanations for this line of thinking. Clearly, Joe
didn't receive his kool-aid ration from the FO, and so doesn't realize that we've assembled a team

LET'S ENUMERATE THE SUCK: The news of Perralta and Gallardo needing to go out for hernia surgery
does suck, as that injury seems to plague this team somehow. The news that Carvallo has been
released moderately sucks, in that it indicates our lack of depth not just in defense but in the
keeper position as well.

For the third time this season, United has picked an ex-Red Bull off the MLS scrap heap, adding
midfielder Joe Vide to the roster. Of course, Vide doesn't come to us direct from the Bulls, but in
some ways that's even more disturbing. He was waved by the expansion Quakes after only five
appearances for a club with a wafer-thin roster.

It's official according to this press release from the team, Vide is now a member of the Black N
Red. Could this be the latest Red Bull New York reject to becomee a good player with United? We
shall see.

At least according to Craig Stouffer at the Washington Examiner: Midfielder Joe Vide, who was
recently released by San Jose, is set to sign with D.C. United this afternoon, according to a
source. Vide, who is slated to earn $33,000 this season, for the moment takes United's 18th and
final open senior roster spot.

I've been out of town and away from the computer for the holiday weekend so I missed the
expansion draft. San Jose was able to draft 10 players while I was gone. I don't have much else
to say (or the energy) so I'll leave you with the list:
- Ryan Cochrane (Houston Dynamo)
- Clarence Goodson (FC Dallas)
- Ned Gravaboy (Columbus Crew)
- James Riley (New England Revolution)
- Joe Vide (New York Red Bulls)
- Ivan Guerrero (Chicago Fire)
- Brain Carroll (DC United)
- Jason Hernandez (Chivas USA)
- Gavin Glinton (LA Galaxy)
- Chris Pozniak (Toronto FC)
No one picked up from Kansas City Wizards, Real Salt Lake or Colorado Rapids.
