Phil Schoen was nice enough to give the Brotherly Game some of his time about a week and a half
ago. The GolTV play-by-play announcer discussed plenty of topics with the Brotherly Game, some of
which included the Philadelphia Union.
Interview with Phil Schoen of GolTV
Here are some highlights of the chat:
- Schoen's time with GolTV, along with his coverage of Colombian soccer, has enabled him to have
a more advanced take on players from South and Central America.
CSP Seeks Tournament Director
Since 1997, Commonwealth Soccer Programs has been a soccer management company based in Richmond,
VA, dealing with club consultation, tournament management, camps, team training, and more. We are
currently operating 10-14 tournaments, with several of those being in Florida.
With the news that Eric Cantona wants to become the next French president, OTP turned its thoughts

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp conceded that Roy Hodgson's resilient West Brom side made it tough
for Spurs at White Hart Lane last night and the boss was just grateful for three points at the end
of the match.
Jermain Defoe broke the deadlock after the hour mark and Spurs held on but Harry agreed that it
was tough,
"It was very important for us to stay up there and it was a hard night," said Harry.
How many times this season have we looked like we can beat anyone and then in an instant struggle
to win games?. It's so frustrating once again this season and Saturday against Fulham proved to me
once again that when sides come to the Bridge and line up defensively, we struggle to break them
down.
Why reality TV-style fan voting will get refs to stop thinking of their image and start
doing their jobs
We all know that football fans when whipped into a mob frenzy can take banality to frightening
heights. Sustained cancerous abuse is yelled at players, yet if the subject reacts, they cry to the
police about the psychological damage visited on the child who's sat next to them troughout their
bile-fest.
It is quite depressing when it turns out the people in charge aren't cleverer and don't have any
secret knowledge you aren't party to. For months it's been massively obvious that the
Conservative's austerity policies are a millstone holding the economy back. It now turns out that
there will be over 700 thousand public sector workers losing their jobs now and for what?
Being meaning to link to this one for a while. Snarkshelf at her best:
Every Monday for the last 15 years or so, these guys had lunch. There was a core group:
the restaurateur; the haberdasher; the ob/gyn; the concert promoter; a couple of salesman; the
accountant; a bookie; an insurance guy (also a bookie); and some friends whose jobs I never knew,
but they always drove nice cars.
Liverpool FC will open a second Boot Room Sports Cafe a year after the first opened in Anfield,
with global expansion on the menu.
The new cafe will open next month in Ellesmere Port's Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet Village, which
will seat 230 people and have the same look as the existing Sports Cafe, with Liverpool FC
memorabilia, private booths, TV screens and a children's area.
We sometimes tend to over estimate our national team. Sure, in 1974 and 1990 we should have won
it. Without a doubt. In 1998, we could have won it. And in 2010 we were extremely close too, if
Robben and Webb had done their jobs (and Casillas handn't).
But we do [read more]
Akron's Caleb Porter was named head coach of the United States under-23 men's national team, which
will try to qualify this spring for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
Porter now has to balance both jobs as he wears multiple hats, with his Akron Zips in the NCAA
National Tournament and the US Under-23 team going through preparations for qualification for the
next Olympics.

I had been holding off on writing a post on Bob Bradley's new job as Egypt national team manager
until there were firm news of an agreement. (The usual busyness with business is another reason.)
Bradley had been linked with foreign jobs before, but those links appeared to be ephemeral. So when
Bradley received overtures from the Egyptian national team and Santos Laguna, US soccer observers
could be forgiven for feeling incredulous.
Mike Woitalla of Soccer America recently caught up with United States Under-20 national team coach
Tab Ramos to discuss what are key components in playing for the US now that Jurgen Klinsmann is the
head coach.
SA: U.S. Soccer Youth Technical Director Claudio Reyna has talked about the national teams at
all levels, from Jurgen Klinsmann's senior team on down, playing similar styles and in a similar
system.
Colorado went to Mexico hoping that they could steal a win. Santos obliged them by starting their
reserves. Then we found out the Rapids started half of their reserves and that was the end of that
hope.
Colorado controlled play for much of the first half, but every time the ball got to the attackers
it died.
As I sat there on Saturday 3-0 up against Everton everything was going right for us in a game that
normally causes us problems. I was enjoying the fact that we had got rid of this six year curse
Everton had placed over us and was looking forward to the final whistle when yes you've guessed it,
THEY SCORED!

The more I hear from AVB the more I like him!. It would be very very easy for us Chelsea fans to
get carried away right now with out recent form and get ahead of ourselves. If you think as fans
it's easy to get carried away, then imagine what it could be like for AVB, his staff and the
players!.
AVB is having none of it right now though as he is focused on where he wants us to be and that is
top of the league.

HARRISON, N.J. -- The more U.S. national team defender Timmy Chandler plays at left back, the
more it looks like the long search for a dependable option at the position has come to an end.

Welcome to the real world of professional footballers supposedly living the dream. One – a

Wayne Rooney has claimed that after wearing the captain's armband on occasion, he would love to
be named the permanent captain of United and England. Sir Alex Ferguson singled out Rooney as a
future captain a couple of years ago, although this is probably fairly unlikely given his behaviour
last October.
Real Betis - Benito Villamarín I attempted one of those 'stitch jobs' on the camera at Real Betis
for their game against Mallorca; you know the deal: shaky hands, much tutting, swearing like a
trooper, shouldered slumped with the results and all of that. Anyway, click to enlarge this image,

MLS's latest entry in their video series, Soccer Jobs, features Houston Dynamo President Chris
Canetti. Canetti has been with the Dynamo since 2006 when he moved to Houston to serve as the
club's first Chief Operating Officer. Canetti was promoted to team president in 2010, after the
club's first president, Oliver Luck, left Houston to become the Athletic Director at the University
of West Virginia.
Aaron Ramsey, Alex Song, and Mikel Arteta's jobs are safe. For a long while, at least. Arsenal have

Like we mentioned Monday, Iker Casillas is featured in the October issue of GQ Espana, as first
teased in this Reebok video posted on the mag's site. Well, thanks to some pulling of a few
strings and public pleading, we finally got our hands on an exclusive shot from those fine Spanish
folks.

Seattle Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid believes it is great for American soccer that former USA
national team boss Bob Bradley is being considered for jobs abroad.
The 53-year olds five-year tenure in charge of the US team was recently ended when US Soccer
replaced him with Juergen Klinsmann but there has been no shortage of interest in his services with
the Egypt national team and some clubs in Mexico showing curiosity.

We're Looking for a New Contributing Editor!
Stumptown Footy is now actively looking for a new contributing editor to help us patch some of
the editorial holes that Ryan and I just can't seem to get to on a weekly basis (jobs and social
lives... damn you for taking up so much time!).
Essentially what we need is for somebody to do at least one training report each week, meaning
you'd get to go to the training sessions and interview John Spencer and the players.
The NFL lockout hurt a lot of people. People lost jobs, sports writers were left with nothing to
write about and football fans were bored out of their minds. But nobody lost as much as Cam
Newton.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft signed with the Carolina Panthers on Friday.
However, due to new rookie contract restrictions, Cam Newton's deal was worth only $22 million.

I tried to stop myself from expecting too much from tonight's game against Dallas. I suspected that
whatever the individual qualities of the players, old and new alike, that developing a coherent
smooth squad was a matter of time. Toronto played five new players and three of those were playing
their first games in MLS.

National team coach Alfred Riedl has accused bickering football officials of destroying Indonesian
football.
Last year Indonesia finished second at the AFF Cup, losing to Malayisa in the final. What was
needed then was a sustained programme to keep the momentum going but of course that never happened.
Here we are, just a week after Martin said his goodbyes, and now I will be saying goodbye too.
This will be my last post here at Arsenal Offside.
I almost don't know what to say. I'm not very good with goodbyes, so I'll try to keep things
short. I basically came to this blog like the rest of you, as a fan and a frequent contributor to
the comments section.
Les Rosbifs is confirming that Bryan Robson and Steve Darby have quit from their positions as chief

The announcement comes ahead of Thailand's World Cup qualifying campaign for which there has been
