Sport companies and clubs have, in living memory certainly, always gone hand in hand with
advertising. Formula 1 has given much wide- spread criticised publicity to cigarette companies on
the sides to their big red engines, cricket players are sponsored by airlines and football teams
are sponsored by companies by all walks of life.

Manchester United are on the brink of completing their first signing of the summer, with Antonio
Valencia likely to complete his £16.5 million move from Wigan later today.
The Ecuadorian winger has spent just over two years at the JJB Stadium, becoming one of Wigan's
most prized assets during that time.

I honestly whole heartedly believe that we have the strongest starting 11 in Europe.
Why? Well we currently have Europe's best keeper in Reina, three of the best center backs in the
league in Carragher, Daniel Agger and Skrtel, as well as one of the best left backs in the league
in Aurelio and a very promising left back in Insua.

Since their inception into the Premier League in 2005, Wigan have been what
Closet Man U fan?
could be described as a selling club. Even before the start of the '05/06 season, their top
scorer from their promotion campaign Nathan Ellington left to join West Brom. Over the years, stars
like Pascal Chimbonda, Wilson Palacios and Jimmy Bullard have left the JJB Stadium (soon to be
called the DW Stadium after the ever modest Manchester United loving chairman Dave Whelan) for a
'bigger club'.

Birmingham City may make a £1.5m bid for Espanyol's 24-year-old central midfielder Jordi Gomez.
Gomez spent the 2008-09 campaign on loan at Swansea City and proved himself capable in the U.K.
Wigan Athletic is certainly also a possibility because Swansea's former manager Roberto Martinez is
now at the JJB Stadium according to
The People.

If we took a quick poll to find out who you think has been the best and most boisterous
supporters during the 2008-2009 Premier League season, Stoke City would win the vote hands-down.
The incredible amount of noise and hysteria generated by Stoke City fans at the Britannia Stadium
has been wonderful to listen to and watch on television.

When did it come to this? I thought.
As I watch Bolton's Reebok Hunt slide tackle Liverpool's Xabi Carlsberg at Carlsberg Lite
Stadium in Liverpool on an overcast Saturday in April, I am filled with an unbearable nostalgia for
the past.
As Fly Emirates Bennett holds the red card aloft in Hunt's face who behins his long walk of
shame, (brought to you by Reebok), I can't help but long for the days before players, refs and
stadia started adopting the names of massive corporate sponsors.

It was an interesting game at the JJB Stadium, where Wigan

Carlos Tevez inspired a second-half comeback as Manchester United moved to the brink of the
Premier League title with a 2-1 win at Wigan. The Argentine came off the bench to cancel out Hugo
Rodallega's opening goal in spectacular fashion, before Michael Carrick netted a cool winner five
minutes from time.

Manchester United tonight came from behind once again to wrap up a crucial three points. Wigan
took an early 1-0 lead through Hugo Rodallega's scrappy goal, but a brilliant goal from Carlos
Tevez put the Red Devils back in with a shout. Four minutes from time United's midfield maestro
Michael Carrick made sure the title could once again be his as he slotted a perfect shot into the
upper left hand corner of Wigan's goal.

An inspired Carlos Tevez performance has this evening put Manchester United within touching
distance of re-claiming their Premier League title. Sir Alex Ferguson's men came from behind to
claim a 2-1 win over Steve Bruce's Wigan at the JJB Stadium to leave United needing just a single
point out of their final two games to ensure the title stays at Old Trafford for another season.

I shan't dwell too long on yesterday's 1-4 home defeat to <?xml:namespace prefix = st1>
Chelsea. It's far, far too painful. Especially after last Tuesday. More woeful defending and some
woeful goalkeeping from Lukasz Fabianski, in for Manuel Almunia, not risked with an ankle injury,
were responsible for at least three and arguably all four of Chelsea's goals.

Well, that brought us all down back to Earth with a sickening thud, didn't it?
The travails of a football fan. As one supporter of a lower division club once said to me, "It's
not the disappointments I can't stand. It's the hope." Never a truer word.
Arsène Wenger is man about whom there is so much to like and admire.

A decent Easter for the Gooner Nation so far. Our win at the JJB Stadium against Wigan Athletic
was decisive if flattering. An early incident with Kieran Gibbs who could very easily have got a
red card for a last man foul, a free-kick cannoning off the inside of the post and out and a bit of
a headless chicken rush out of his goal by Lukasz Fabianski could all have seen a very different
result from the one we got.

focus on this game to the exclusion of all else. I'm sure you're sick of me saying this, but it's
