The Traditional League?

OK Football Finder 10 November @ 01:00 AM EST

This Sunday was fairly familiar for me. I was sporting a cracking hangover and woke up wondering what happened the previous night. The ‘Big Clash' of the day, as usual, didn't match the hype that it was given. Patrice Evra failed to remember he's a great left-back against Chelsea and an angry Scotsmen made more comments about a referee.

Wigan: Are You Arsenal in Disguise?

Never Captain Nicky Butt 11 August @ 08:08 PM EST
Roberto Martinez's Wigan will actually play football, not rugby this season
They play in a rugby stadium (no longer called the JJB by the way), and over the past few years they've played some pretty no-nonsense, direct football. Some pretty boring stuff. Very boring in fact. I'm a football addict but even I look to avoid Wigan matches on the tele at all costs. Click to continue reading...

Antonio Valencia has signed a 4-year-deal with Manchester United after making what is believed to be £16m move from Wigan.

Whilst not expecting to fill the boots of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Ecuadorian winger will certainly strengthen the squad after enjoying a successful period with Steve Bruce down the road at the JJB.

It’s So Close Now

The Offside: Manchester United 15 May @ 05:34 PM EST

I can almost smell it.

At the end of tomorrow's match we could be celebrating our third consecutive EPL title for the second time since the league's inception in 1992.

As it stands we sit six points ahead of Liverpool in second with two games to go, with that in mind we need only one point from our remaining two games to win this year's Premier League.

Manchester United on the brink after Tevez adds to his CV

SoccerLens 14 May @ 05:19 AM EST

For an hour the dreamers had begun to dream. Households across Merseyside & Greater Manchester had seen its occupants edge ever closer to the television, whilst inside the JJB the travelling contingent of Manchester United supporters waited. And waited.

They knew it would come, it always does.

Title Tilts Towards Tevez

Premiership Talk Blog 13 May @ 04:13 PM EST

Manchester United tonight came from behind once again to wrap up a crucial three points. Wigan took an early 1-0 lead through Hugo Rodallega's scrappy goal, but a brilliant goal from Carlos Tevez put the Red Devils back in with a shout. Four minutes from time United's midfield maestro Michael Carrick made sure the title could once again be his as he slotted a perfect shot into the upper left hand corner of Wigan's goal.

Liverpool - On The Verge Of Nothing This Season

EPL Talk 13 May @ 04:12 PM EST

Â

Liverpool's enormous trophy cabinet but nothing from 2009

They huffed, they puffed but they failed to blow United's house down. Liverpool look set to finish the season with no silverware to show for it and yet to make an appearance at the rebuilt Wembley.

After tonight's victory for Manchester United at the JJB the title race will be over if United gain a single point from their remaining two games.

Premier League Preview: Wigan Athletic - Manchester United

Sanford's Soccer Net 13 May @ 07:35 AM EST
Kick-Off: Wednesday, May 13; 20:00;
JJB Stadium, Wigan

So it's not quite the same as last season, but a win at the JJB this time around, a little earlier than last season, will put them just a point away from winning their third successive Premier League title - the second time they will have achieved this feat. Click to continue reading...

New Stadium Fever?

EPL Talk 30 April @ 02:59 PM EST

Pompey's Spectacular Horsea Island Plans

I was having a good look at Tottenham's proposal for a new stadium overlapping their current plot at White Hart Lane last night and my brain started to tick. However difficult  these proposals appear to be (and indeed i hope they go through) it seems Spurs are not alone in their ambitions and indeed there are a glut of club's trying to relocate from their traditional homes from all rungs of the English football ladder.

Mental strength and luck combine to great effect

Wigan 1 (Mido 18) Arsenal 4 (Walcott 61, Silvestre 71, Arshavin 90, Song 90)
(Premiership)

In so many ways, this game reminded me of a match at Goodison Park last season, where Everton battered us for the first half, led 1-0, and seemed to be sending us to a somewhat insipid away defeat.

Rounding up the weekend’s action

Footy/Soccer Blog 13 April @ 05:16 AM EST

To Anfield, where football was not the most important thing on the agenda for once. Paying respect to those who sadly lost their lives in the Hillsborough disaster, 20 years ago this Wednesday, was at the forefront of everyone's mind. A minute‘s silence, impeccably observed. What followed was fitting; a comprehensive feast of flowing football saw Liverpool sweep Blackburn aside with ease.

Pre-Wigan Saturday round-up + the Twitch King

Arseblog 11 April @ 03:03 AM EST

Hello from a beautifully sunny Dublin.

The focus turns back onto the league today with a trip to the JJB and Wigan. We know it's always a bit of a challenge after a midweek European game to find the right level of performance. Although we followed up the penalties victory over Roma with a 4-0 win over Blackburn it hasn't always been that easy and Wigan, to my mind, provide a tougher test that Walrus Looking Cunt's team.

Ask the Oppo:PGL talks to a Wigan fan

Arsenal Insider 11 April @ 01:00 AM EST

PGL: So off we go up North today to the home of pies, a sometimes suspect pitch and a much changed Wigan side. Any game played after Europe is tricky but this one has a bit of extra difficulty... This Wigan is a better side than we think they are. If we go out with anything less than 100% we could we'll be making the long trip home feeling glum. Click to continue reading...

The Big Four in Europe: Well Done?

Steve Bruce Working Latic Magic

Premiership Talk Blog 11 January @ 11:11 PM EST
Looking back at last season, there were many twists and turns to the Premier League season. For Wigan, it was a rather emotional season. Rooted in the relegation battle in the fall, Wigan fans rejoiced when Steve Bruce resigned from Birmingham to take control of the Wigan reins again. Steve Bruce successfully steered the club clear of relegation, and a 1-1 draw with Chelsea in April ensured safety. Click to continue reading...

Wigan Continue to Impress

Premiership Talk Blog 29 December @ 10:58 AM EST
While Hull stole the early season headlines, Steve Bruce and his Wigan side have slowly been marching up the table. Egyptian striker Amr Zaki has led the way, and Bruce's side currently sit all the way in 7th place. With no real consistency amongst the table this year, Wigan have a genuine chance of finishing in the top half of the table in 2009. Click to continue reading...
