Desperate times call for desperate measures it seems; van Persie is going to have placenta
rubbed on his ankle by a Serbian witch doctor in a bid to recover from injury just that little bit
quicker if you didn't already know, he is out for 6 weeks with a bollocksed ligament. Maybe its the
baby particles in the placenta that invade his ankle and make everything hunky-dory again.

So in last week's preview I added in a few sentences about just how excellent an idea it was to
move a W-League game to Shepparton, citing the 'Canberra effect'. Which is, there isn't much else
happening there over summer so why not move women's games to areas where they don't have to compete
with men's for attention?

So I flagged it months ago on here and it seems like Katie Gill is finally back in the country and
set to play for Perth Glory this weekend. Well according to the FFA snapshot they sent out
yesterday, which suggests she will be a prime candidate to score the leagues 200th goal when it
goes off this weekend.

So very late last night in China, well 10.30pm Australian time, Australia kicked off its campaign
to qualify for the under-17 FIFA Women's World Cup in Trinidad and Tobago. And they kicked it off
in some sort of style with an impressive 4-0 win over China.
Newcastle Jets striker Tara Andrews claimed all four goals in the win, scoring in the 18th, 58th,
63rd and then 87th minute.

Everybody know someone who cohabitates with someone who supports a different sports team than them.
For instance my brother-in-law is a die-hard Giants fan while his son bleeds Jets green; even
though they rarely play each other, the trash talking can get definitely get heated (in a good
way).

At 86:35 minutes Orangecrush leaned over to me and said 'Do you think the players realise that this
is the most important 3 minutes of the club's history and they have to score?' I agreed with his
sentiment and said 'And they aren't going to score.'
The low crowd didn't help. This was a dull game.

So there was a little bit of history repeating itself thanks to a late Canberra United comeback in
Perth to draw 2-2 with the Glory, but apart from that it seems the Westfield W-League results fell
into a little bit more predictable fashion in Round 3. Are the cream starting to separate from the
crop?

The 23-year-old just had the wildest ride of her soccer career to help claim the inaugural Women's
Professional League title in American with Sky Blues FC, and now she's back in Australia trying to
get Perth Glory into its first W-League finals campaign. The Scottish born midfielder has a killer
kick from set pieces, hence the corner she took last week against the Newcastle Jets that ended up
going in for the matchwinner.

So lots of goals and lots of upsets in Round 1, will everything be a little bit more settled in
Round 2 or will the rollercoaster continue? In a league where points are at a premium, every game
counts even more than usual. Here's what I think will happen in Round 2, although after last week,
I wouldn't bet on it!

We don't expect you to be entirely or even vaguely familiar with Mr. Adam Griffiths, an

However unfamiliar you may be though, we are quite sure this next bit of information will be of
interest: he has a twin brother.

So this afternoon the second season of the Westfield W-League will kick off, the same eight clubs,
but new players and coaches everywhere. But shall we just take a minute to think about the first
season? Here girlswithgame takes a look at its top five moments from season 2008.
5. Canberra United's late rush to draw with Perth Glory in Round 6.

IT'S all a bit confusing. On one hand Perth Glory, after two successive away wins, are on top of
the ladder - something which has probably never happen in the four years of the A-League. On the
other hand the manner which those victories came were unpleasant.
No wonder some Glory fans are happy, while some are still discontented.

For the second successive week, the Newcastle Jets have been beaten by the odd goal in a game which
they ostensibly dominated. For this viewer, there were echoes of an Olympic v. Parramatta game I
watched in late 2000, with Branko Culina in charge of the former club: Olympic played all the
attractive football, with Nick Carle and Greg Owens to the fore, but were undone by two typical
striker's goals from the Power's experienced Scotsman Joe Miller.

4738SO Perth Glory have won two in a row on the road. Wow. The most amazing thing about it wasn't the
fact that it was away from ME Bank Stadium, it was the fact that both wins were quite ... lucky to

SO it's game-day. Perth Glory versus Newcastle Jets. Mano e mano. Hyped-up short sentences. Most of
the pundits were surprised with Perth's win over Brisbane last week. Could they do it again?
The Glory have spent the week over east, which means they got front-row seats to Apocalypse 2009
(Love it how some people can find the silver lining to this), which has slightly hampered the
team's preparations for the game.

PERTH Glory have a pretty quick turnaround of five days until Friday's match against Newcastle
Jets.
But before we get into it, FP just wants to rant about something (don't worry he'll make his point
quickly).
Football in this country is not suffering because of the big things. We have pretty decent players,
a pretty good supporter base (though they are a bit afraid of the rain) and the competition,
especially this year, is extremely tight.

Melbourne Victory vs Newcastle Jets 1-1

pitch, following another disappointing result, the defending champions sit 7th on the A-League
ladder.

Walking into my room on a chilly Sunday morning, I sighed heavily, yet I was happy. I had
correctly tipped Burnley to beat United. Who knew. I didn't get it all right; I had a few problems
especially my A-League tipping. Mariners and Jets drew, so I only had 2 points from this round.
Forgetting about that, I walked over to my desk, before clomping down on to my seat.

The W-League's only independent club - freely going on its own without an A-League partner and also
doing a pretty damn good job at it - announced another player and coach signing yesterday.
As mentioned here as a possible,

dad to the ACT and will play for Canberra United this season.

IS the weather starting to reflect the feeling among the Perth Glory faithful? It's only two games
into the season and the general fan is starting to feel like this has happened all before.
Some of the fans are already sharpening their axes and pitchforks and the fan pressure is slowly
building on the Football Hooligan - Dave Mitchell - to get a win.

We got one. Finally. It's not Jim Rome but that's never going to happen so why even entertain the
thought (and really when you think about it would we every really want him?). ESPN's Bill Simmons
is a fantastic writer/sports nut and even though he has written about European and World Cup soccer
before, by his own admission has been a soccer hater from time-to-time.
