The season is about to begin for the Portland Timbers, so it behooves us to take a look at their opposition for 2017. On Tuesday we went over the East, now it is time to look a little closer to home with a quick rundown of the Western Conference.
Home on March 3rd, Away on June 21st
Finish last year: N/A
Former Timbers: Jermaine Taylor, Miguel Ibarra (drafted but not signed)
Players to Watch: Kevin Molino is the fulcrum of the Minnesota attack.
Despite the notoriously fickle nature of Jurgen Klinsmann, it should come as a surprise to nobody that Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe was called up to the United States Men's National Team yesterday to be a part of the team's Copa America side.
This year's edition of the Copa America will feature teams from North and South America and will run from June 3rd to June 26th, although the US have already started their pre-tournament camp and friendlies.
Jake Gleeson has really taken over the Timbers number 1 goalkeeping spot and his confidence has been soaring over the weeks. We saw a very confident Jake this afternoon and the results have followed.Jennifer Kesgard, community blogger For a look...
I'm sure that Jake Gleeson would have liked a better result after effectively earning the Timbers' starting goalkeeper job and seeing his main competition transferred away. Unfortunately, the first 12 minutes are ones that I'm sure he'd love to have...

The Houston Dynamo chose to pass with their pick in the 2015 Waiver Draft which turned out to be the popular thing to do.
The Houston Dynamo passed in this year's MLS Waiver Draft along with nearly every other club. The only club to make a selection was the Colorado Rapids who picked up midfielder Michael Azira with the 2nd pick of the draft.
Jermaine Taylor and Luis Garrido are among the players whos options have been declined.
The Houston Dynamo have announced that they have declined options for seven players. Goalkeeper Michael Lisch, defenders AJ Cochran and Jermaine Taylor, midfielders Luis Garrido, Alexander Lopez and Nathan Sturgis, and forward Chandler Hoffman are all players that the team will be parting ways with.

Sporting Kansas City finds themselves in a rare situation from the past few years. For the first time since opening Sporting Park, and the first time since 2010, KC has lost back to back home games, falling 3-1 to the Houston Dynamo. It's also the first time since 2010 that KC has allowed three goals in back to back matches (4-3 win over Houston 3-1 loss to Dallas).
After failing to score a goal in more than a month, and failing to win a match in almost two months, the Houston Dynamo were in desperate need of a result to turn around a slump that was threatening to send their season into a tailspin.
Sparked by the return of Oscar Boniek Garcia, and the insertion of Omar Cummings into the starting lineup, the Dynamo attack showed signs of life on Saturday that hadn't been seen in some time, and while there was no deluge of goals for Houston, Ricardo Clark's game-winning header felt like one.

When it became clear a week ago that the Houston Dynamo would be without starting centerbacks Bobby Boswell (suspension) and Jermaine Taylor (injured), their looming trip to Sporting Park to take on Sporting KC suddenly looked like too tall a task.
Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall had other ideas, turning in the kind of effort that reminded us why he has been called in as part of the U.
Dynamo center back Jermaine Taylor, one of the team's most important players over the last two years, suffered a left shoulder injury in the eighth minute Saturday night against the New England Revolution.
Taylor suffered the injury after colliding with New England forward Dimitry Imbongo on a clean 50-50 challenge.
The Houston Dynamo continue their poor road form with a 2-0 loss against the Portland Timbers at Jeld-Wen Field. Behind a second half brace by Timbers forward Ryan Johnson, Portland got their first win of the season.
It was a tale of two halves as Houston and Portland battled in the first half in a tough physical match.
It's the first visit to BBVA Compass Stadium for the Vancouver Whitecaps, but the Houston Dynamo are hoping to make it another happy ending for the home fans.
The Dynamo enter the game on a 32 game unbeaten streak at home and are coming off two consecutive losses - each allowing 3 goals. Houston will be looking to right the ship and will rely on the home fans to help push them back on the right track.
In their final match in the Desert Friendlies, the Houston Dynamo fell to the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1. The Dynamo went up early with Bobby Boswell heading in a free kick from Giles Barnes, but the Whitecaps drew even three minutes later and got a game winner in the second half.
The Dynamo started the match with four of their back five starters - Tally Hall, Kofi Sarkodie, Boswell, and Jermaine Taylor.
Chicharito Hernandez and Oribe Peralta power Mexico past Jamaica despite fantastic saves from the Philadelphia Union's Andre Blake.
In front of a packed house at The Rose Bowl, Chicharito Hernandez propelled Mexico to a 2-0 win over Andre Blake and Jamaica.
Jamaica lined up exactly as I had predicted, with the Philadelphia Union's Andre Blake in goal behind Portland Timbers' Jermaine Taylor, Leicester City's Wes Morgan, Crystal Palace's Adrian Mariappa, and New England Revolution's Je-Vaughn Watson on the back line.
Evaluating players is a messy thing. With MLS's first Free Agency class nowavailable for purchase and MLS's yearly Re-EntryRound 2 Draft beginningtomorrow (Thursday, 12/17), itisworth looking at who's available...and who's worth being available.
I'musing the same data I've usedpreviously to look at player performance: The OPTA-based Squawkarating system and MLS Player Salary information.

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Houston's Adam Moffat opened the scoring just over three minutes into the second half and a fortuitous bounce gave him a brace, as Houston took all three points on the road with a 2-1 win over New England.
