With the Bundesliga winter break fast approaching, it's looking more and more unlikely that
Jermaine Jones will be able to return to the pitch for Schalke 04 in 2009. The Bundesliga's winter
break begins on December 19, and will last until January 16, meaning the 28-year-old midfielder
would have another two months to recuperate from his shin injury.

FIFA has approved the change of association application for Jermaine Jones, making the
midfielder available for selection for the U.S. Men's National Team. Well, qualifying is over and
Jones is still fighting an injury, but this is still good news. He should help the team immensely

After feeling pain in his surgically-repaired leg, and sitting for three more weeks with the
hope of having the pain subside, Jones has now undergone another surgery. This time he had the
metal plate in his leg removed, a procedure that will sideline him for at least six more weeks,
German newspaper Bild reported on Wednesday.
