Jermaine Jones unlikely to return before 2010

With the Bundesliga winter break fast approaching, it's looking more and more unlikely that Jermaine Jones will be able to return to the pitch for Schalke 04 in 2009. The Bundesliga's winter break begins on December 19, and will last until January 16, meaning the 28-year-old midfielder would have another two months to recuperate from his shin injury.

Colorado Rapids owner Stan Kroenke edged closer to a potential takeover of English power Arsenal after buying another batch of shares.

Kroenke now owns about 29.6 percent of Arsenal's shares, just three percentage points below the amount that would obligate him to launch a formal takeover bid.

Jermaine Jones' injuries woes have gone from bad to worse.

After feeling pain in his surgically-repaired leg, and sitting for three more weeks with the hope of having the pain subside, Jones has now undergone another surgery. This time he had the metal plate in his leg removed, a procedure that will sideline him for at least six more weeks, German newspaper Bild reported on Wednesday.

The U.S. Soccer Federation has received all the necessary paperwork from the German Football Federation, and from Jermaine Jones, for Jones' application for a switch to the U.S. national team to be processed by FIFA, sources told SBI this weekend.

There had been a delay in the securing of the necessary documents, but with the USSF finally receiving all the necessary paperwork to submit the application, the clock now starts ticking on Jones' switch to the U.
