Almost eleven months ago, during a sunny week in South Florida, you could tell the 2009 MLS
Draft Class had the potential to be special.
During the rough days of the MLS Combine, even as player struggled with fitness and playing with
their new teammates, there was a sense that this year's crop of talent had the potential to provide
MLS with a serious infusion of talent.

Here is a little tidbit that just made its way to my desk: Luke Sassano, Nick Zimmerman
and Jeremy Hall are all taking in the sights and sounds of Austria, as the trio begin a
2-3 week training stint with the Salzburg Motherland Crew.
Hopefully, they don't get the Dane Richards treatment.

Alrighty ladies and gents, while some may be writing about postseason plans with passionate
pride, I will be doing my darndest to keep things interesting around here till March of 2010. And
when a team isn't in the playoffs (holla TFC, and San Jose!), the front office has to do the
same.
It is in that vane that the Red Bulls announced their awards for team MVP, Defender of the Year,
Newcomer of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Fan of the Year.

On a cold and rainy night at the swamps of the Meadowlands, this was the final performance on
the soccer side at Giants Stadium. Yes the season has been lost since the middle of June, but that
doesn't mean the club can't try to play for pride and knock off Toronto FC from the playoffs.

Um . . . thanks Red Bulls Reader?! OOOOOF. Is this cringy . . . but I have to admit. Danleigh
Borman is better than most boy banders.
Enjoy on this Wednesday morn . . . . eek.

Oh wow. It's like N'Sync became a new footie-themed boy band called the Backpass Boys. Obviously
Danleigh Borman is the Justin Timberlake of the bunch but when it comes to who is the Joey Fatone
I'm out of answers. You know what would make them really bump though? A posse cut remix by Youri
Djorkaeff featuring the ESC on hypeman duty.

CONCACAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUESome teams enter Round 4 this week in do-or-die mode! The big teams in desperate need are Houston,
DC and Saprissa. Another loss for them and it will be very tough to come back. Then you have teams
like Columbus that owe Cruz Azul some serious pay back for a 5-0 asskicking down in Mexico City.

It was about 48 hours before their match this past Sunday against FC Dallas when Juan Carlos
Osorio called the players to the locker room at their training facility in Montclair State
University and told everyone after practice that he wasn't going to wait for the end of the season
to leave the club.

Nothing like living as a soccer player, or at least one that gets paid about the same as the guy
behind the counter at your local Burger King. A good little video put together by the New York Red
Bulls with rookies Jeremy Hall and Nick Zimmerman.
You think they get free Red Bull?

Thank you all for your participation in this weeks poll. Interesting outcomes. The poll asked
"Which 5 players would you retain for next season" and here are your results:
#1 - 15% of the vote
JUAN PABLO ANGEL
The Red Bulls Captain has carried on this season with injuries that have hampered his
performance and kept him off the pitch for long stretches.

Cribs was canceled ages ago but that won't stop it from coming to North Jersey. Behold the teaser
for RBNY greenhorns Nick Zimmerman and Jeremy Hall's upcoming episode courtesy of Red Bulls Reader.
I like these things where you get to see a bit of what these guys' lives are like off the field;
it's nice to see that they are just dudes that you might want to play COD with.

It's finally happened. If you considered the term dead man walking, it's now become dead men
coaching and sport directing. This terrible and disgusting season for RBNY will end on the names of
Jeff Agoos and Juan Carlos Osorio as Stefan Bondy of the Bergen Record has reported from Red Bull
in Austria that these men won't be brought back to fix this mess into next season and the first
season of Red Bull Arena.

What is left of the New York Red Bulls dismal season will either survive or perish tonight when
the Red Bulls take on W Connection in the second leg of their CONCACAF Champions League series.
The task is simple. If the Red Bulls win or tie by a goal or less, they advance to the group
stage of the Champions League.

I blame the holiday weekend for getting me off to a late start here this week. Plus throw in the
fact that I am a homeowner now all the trips to Home Depot and places like that are easily killing
off any spare second over the weekend. Oh well, no time to bitch and moan about that but time to
get down to business once again this week.

I guess it's to be expected as the league gets bigger and bigger, but this year's rookie class is
on pace to equal or break a record. What is it? The most rookies who started at least half of the
regular season games. The record is 10, and already 9 rookies this season are virtually certain to
hit that mark (15 starts):
- Darrius Barnes (NE)
- Matt Besler (KC)
- Sam Cronin (TOR)
- Stefan Frei (TOR)
- Omar Gonzalez (LA)
- Jeremy Hall (LA)
- Chris Pontius (DC)
- Rodney Wallace (DC)
- Steve Zakuani (SEA)
Breaking the record is going to be hard, as some less hyped players will have to lock down a
starting role.

If you caught Juan Carlos Osorio's expression after his team let in yet another
extra time goal, it really spoke to you. Anger, confusion, frustration, pain; it was the story of
the season, captured in an image.
Only the Metro Bulls would follow up an amazing header clearance of a sure goal with a lax
defensive effort on the opponents only goal.

The U.S. national team's dream run to the Confederations Cup final on Sunday is getting all the
headlines these days, but there is still Major League Soccer action going on and there are still
important games being contested.
It isn't a full slate of games, but the four MLS matches being contested this weekend are still
key to the playoff races in both conferences.

With the SuperLiga now in full swing, there weren't a lot of changes to the Power Rankings.
Colorado is the team on the rise, coming off a rather dominating win against D.C. United. It's
impossible to punish teams like Chicago, New England, and Kansas City because they are dormant in
the league.
The bottom saw some movement, as both Dallas and San Jose dusted off the win column at home to
score rare victories.

As found on the Insider, the USSF released the names today for the preliminary Gold Cup
roster.
And of course its just the same old names. Why would we expect anything more? It seems that
Bradley automatically gives preference to anybody on a team in Europe, regardless of how good that
player is, how good that team is, or if that player receives any playing time with that team.

Not as much to glean over on a Monday morning after a light serving of play on Saturday. The
Superliga provided some quality entertainment on the side, especially with Brian McBride's
scintillating finish for the Fire.
Surveying the rest of league play, a couple of draws, maddening red cards and poor defending
returned to mar the weekend.

fairly exciting back and forth game this weekend against the Seattle Sounders.

A lucky first half goal by
Juan Pablo Angel gave the New York Red Bulls their
first lead in many games, but it was short-lived. Rookie Jeremy Hall made a rookie mistake to bring
the two sides level at halftime and the Red Bulls rode a strong performance by Danny Cepero to eke
out a 1-1 draw and escape rainy Giants Stadium with a point they probably didn't deserve.
