The Chicago Fire put their undefeated preseason streak to the test when they take on Chivas USA
today at 2:00 PM CST. Live audio of the game will be available with Fire Communications Manager
Brendan Hannan and Team Writer Jeff Crandall teaming up on the play-by-play. Per Crandall, this
will be the 4th time the combo has called a game.
The off-season has been busy for the teams in Major League Soccer with players moving in and
players moving out. This is the first part of a three-part look at the league's transactions. Today
I'll be taking a look at the teams on the East Coast and how they stack up for the upcoming
season.
Besides a simple 'IN' and 'OUT' look for players, I'll be using the terms 'Minutes XI Returning'
and 'Minutes Gameday 18 Returning'.

The majority of D.C. United's offseason roster questions have not fully been answered, and as
the club's preseason got underway with the first day of training on Wednesday, it is clear that
there is plenty to be done before the team takes its final shape.
There was a time when I liked a couple players in the MLS Re-Entry Draft for the Seattle
Sounders to pick up in Stage Two and talk into less money. First Bobby Boswell renegotiated with
the Houston Dynamo and then Bobby Convey went to Sporting Kansas City at a cut rate (rumors say
200K$). Now the list of available players is absent of the really appealing names.
MLS has announced a two game ban and $500 for Cristian Nazirit as a result of what MLS deemed as
"play that endangered the safety of his opponent in the 59th minute" of the New England match this
past weekend. Nazirit received a yellow card for an elbow/forearm thrown near the head of
Revolution defender Franco Coria.
When Real Salt Lake forward Jean Alexandre came in for a studs-up challenge on D.C. United
defender Jed Zayner in the 49th minute of Saturday's draw at Rio Tinto Stadium no foul was called,
and no card was handed out. That hardly means that Alexandre escaped punishment from the
league.
Jed Zayner says "balls" on TV, Thomas Rongen grows concerned about said "balls." Kinda nutty,
right?

For Real Salt Lake, there will be no time to dwell on its crushing home defeat in the CONCACAF
Champions League second leg on Wednesday, as it now faces another steep challenge: trying to get a
result at Jeld-Wen Field.
The Portland Timbers are undefeated at their boisterous home field and will be trying to keep it
that way Saturday against Salt Lake.
In front of a "home crowd" at the Maryland SoccerPlex, D.C. United was unable to keep alive it's
streak of playing in the U.S. Open Cup. United has played in every U.S. Open Cup since 2002 a
tournament the Black and Red have won twice.
"I think we certainly showed more than [the Revolution] did in the first 50 to 60 minutes," DC head
coach Ben Olsen said Tuesday night.

The first day of the Chad Ochocinco era in Kansas City wasn't exactly a smashing success.
The Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver acknowledged he was behind the pace Wednesday as he began
his trial with Sporting Kansas City, telling reporters, "The only thing I'm probably good at is
just being fast as hell.
As the dust settles on the memorable opening night at RFK, D.C. are now preparing to take on the
New England Revolution.
Team updates, news, and links below.
The biggest question going into the next match will be how D.C. line-up at the back. After a
strong first showing, there will be forced changes for Olsen to deal with.

The rumor mill was in full tilt Tuesday with the news that national team member Charlie Davies
was sent by his French club Sochaux to train with D.C. United in Florida, with a successful
training leading to a year-long loan. Yesterday, the Black-and-Red confirmed Davies was in camp
and was being given a fitness tryout to see if he is physically ready to receive playing time
again.

Well, five years wasn't enough to properly evaluate Chris Wondolowski. But looking back on
SuperDrafts are like looking back on memorable road accidents.
So let's get the conclusion out of the way. You don't build a winner through the MLS SuperDraft.
You build a winning MLS team through trades and discovery players.
