It's January, as you might've noticed; and if you hadn't I would suggest those New Year's
resolutions about not drinking anything that really ought to be kept on a shelf in the shed aren't
going all that well. For the rest of you, you know the score. It's the beginning of the year and
that can mean only one thing: the always-good-for-a-laugh-don't-believe-everything-you
hear-better-off-not-opening-any-tabloid-newspapers-or-football-websites-for-a-month-pick-any-name-out-of-a-hat.
With the January transfer window opening up in just a few days, we look ahead at some of the
players most likely to be changing clubs in the January sales.
1. Carlos Tevez, Man City. Hopefully Tevez will finally leave and join AC Milan, with the
transfer saga dragging on for a long time already.
Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini is allegedly on Liverpool's Christmas shopping list
whilst Steve Harper might be off for a spell at Brighton. Shockingly, it's only 10 weeks until
Christmas, which for a humbug like me is a disturbing thought. And shortly after that it's the
January sales, although in this case I'm talking about [.
1. We now have the tools to grind out away results
You wait ages for a midfielder to come along who can both tackle and pass, only for two to come
along at once. Sandro was magnificent for us in the second half of last season, while Scott Parker
has made a very impressive start to his Spurs career.

It is the tentative dawn of Spring that so often exposes the true resolve of a football team. It
is the time when trophies are won and lost, January signings can be truly evaluated and squads are
tested to their fullest. With the season taking its toll on players' fitness I wouldn't imagine
that there is a manager in the Premier League right now who is able to pick his true first XI.
"It is a shame . I can name about 20 players from around the world who are as good as
Iniesta, Xavi and 5 or 6 at the same level as protected boy Messi."
Octavio Santos (Manchester United fan)
If he'd have started his next sentence with: because, you know, Nani's been excellent this
year, I think I'd have had a good crack at trying to stuff my entire head into a saucepan and
boiling it like a cauliflower.
