Former Ajax player Jan Molby scored a tremendous goal in 1985 for Liverpool against Manchester
United in the Milk Cup. However, due to a tv strike that goal was never aired. The goal went into
football lore as the most beautiful goal most people missed. The rush of the overweight
Any Liverpool fan would remember the skills and talent of Danish turned honorary Scouser, Jan
Molby. Voted in at no. 16 on the list of 100 Players Who Shook The Kop, he was a player with as
immense a talent as was his waistline. Before the elegant Xabi Alonso, Liverpool fans marvel at the
sublime passing skills and long range shooting of Jan Molby.
Jan Molby is a player that I have a lot of time for. The Danish footballer was a maestro in
midfield. While he's best remembered as being a pivotal player for Liverpool during his time there
between 1984 and 1996, he has a special place in my heart for being a pioneer with the club I
support, Swansea City, where he introduced a beautiful style of play as player manager which laid
the groundwork for Roberto Martinez's arrival, much later, in 2007.
