Well in Sunday's Mirror, Simon Mullock is reporting that Manchester City are planning to make a
blockbuster £60m offer for the United star.
The Independent has run a story today which claims that Wayne Rooney and Sir Alex
Ferguson have fallen out which has lead to the striker looking for a move away from the club,
again.
Acting quickly, in a statement issued last night by the club and Rooney's agent, Paul Stretford,
it was confirmed that Rooney has no intention of leaving United.

Yesterday afternoon, or if back home in England, yesterday evening, a strange thing happened in
the crazy world of soccer journalism and social networking that illustrated, to me at least, the
huge power that has now developed across Twitter, Facebook and other popular network sites.
" The independent are talking absolute rubbish my future is with Manchester United and the
club and I are totally commited to each other."
This was in response to a James Lawton's article which speculated Rooney's relationship with Sir
Alex had suffered a complete breakdown and there was talk he was to be sold this January.
James Lawton writes of how Manchester United's will to win is what separates them from their
rivals, and keeps them in the pole position heading into the start of the 2011-12 English Premier
League campaign.
It is rather too early to know the degree – and the depth – of Manchester United's latest
renewal but we do know that their potentially toughest rivals endured more than the pain of late
and demoralising defeat.
Days after Manchester United put themselves in position to win the English Premier League
championship with a 2-1 victory over rivals Chelsea, James Lawton of the Independent writes of the
evolution of the game of soccer, and how Manchester United and Chelsea have (or have not) changed
with the times.
"Tomorrow their challenge could not be more basic. Bale has to reclaim belief in the suspicion
that at his best he is beyond restraint, that he is indeed the most exciting, free-spirited and
inherently intelligent young footballer in the world. Van der Vaart has to show again the ability
to read a game more shrewdly than anyone around him.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
The Independent raves about Jose Mourinho, who in turn raves about the Inter team and fans.
Europe World game's summit beckons as Rooney nears peak of his powers -- from The Independent's
James Lawton: The first goal was excellent, of course. How Cristiano Ronaldo's exit turned Wayne
Rooney into the real deal at Manchester United -- from The Daily Mail's Martin Samuel: Rooney, by
contrast, knew he had to make up Ronaldo's shortfall.
When a transfer window closes, a door opens; Andy Carroll's landmark £35m move from Newcastle
to Liverpool, broke not only the transfer record for a British player, but also racial boundaries.
The date of Wednesday 2 February shall ring through the ages, as this was the day when James
Lawton of the Independent chose to describe the striker as "raw", a new era of equality and
understanding between races dawned, as the young Carroll became the first white player to be
described in these vaunted terms.
Europe Ferguson knows rivals are gaining ground -- from The Independent's James Lawton: This side
of financial meltdown, it is likely to represent for some time the standard by which all of English
football must be judged. Juventus sack coach Ciro Ferrara and appoint Zaccheroni -- from BBC Sport:
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez has been linked with the Turin club.
World Fabio Capello to continue as England manager, FA reveals -- from The Evening Standard's Simon
Johnson: "I explained it is very important we use the disappointment as a motivation in the
future." The sleeping finals wake up to a truly thrilling finale -- from The Independent's James
Lawton: Some things never change.
"England coach Fabio Capello and his team of self-regarding flops have presided over a national
embarrassment, one of the most comprehensive humiliations in our sporting history.
1967 Today is the birthday of Paul Gascoigne. Tottenham signed Gazza for a then British record
of £2m in 1988 and cemented his reputation as the most gifted player of his generation, whilst at
the club. Gascoigne played a total of 112 games for Spurs and scored 33 goals.
1965 On this day in 1965, Spurs played Wolves at home. At half-time the score was 1-1, but by
the end of the match the score was somehow 7-4 to Tottenham. Our goals were scored by Eddie
Clayton, Les Allen (his last for the club), Alan Gilzean (2) and Cliff Jones (3).
1910 On this day in 1910, Spurs played Chelsea at White Hart Lane. Both teams were struggling at
the foot of the table and whoever lost would be relegated to the second division. Tottenham won the
match 2-1 and stayed up, thanks to goals from Billy Minter and Percy Humphreys.
The first story about the hooligan threat to the World Cup has emerged courtesy of South Africa's
Times Live. It follows incidents at Wednesday night's Carling Cup Manchester derby. There's just
one problem. The author takes some critics to task for suggesting the Togo attack will have any
bearing on the World Cup.
Europe Martin O'Neill warns Aston Villa he could quit in the summer -- from The Guardian's Stuart
James: O'Neill has overseen back-to-back sixth-placed finishes. Revealed: the £150m cost of debts
owed by Premier League clubs -- from The Times' Oliver Kay: Wages remain by far the biggest expense
among the 20 clubs.
Europe Fallen giants given lesson in team-building -- from The Independent's James Lawton: Sir Alex
Ferguson recognised the inherent dangers of this. We can still beat Juventus says Fulham boss Roy
Hodgson -- from BBC Sport: "We showed for large parts of the game we were more than capable of
matching them.

Did I not just report on this? Oh, yes. My apologies to West Bromwich Athletic.
"Carlo Ancelotti's team delivered a frightening statement about the faultline that runs so
starkly through the Premier League. On one side of it is Chelsea, as strong at the back as they are
potent at the front.
Even Jose Mourinho has rarely known a night like this, one in which not only a second here

The news this morning still concentrates on the Terry affair and its possible implications for the
England World Cup squad. Thankfully Fabio Capello is close to returning after knee surgery and we
can probably expect a decision on the captaincy by the time he flies off to Warsaw for the Euro
2012 qualifying draw.
I can't sleep. Maybe it's the decongestants I've been taking to try and clear this bloody thing,
perhaps it's the fact that everytime I put my head down I feel like the world is spinning so fast
it's going to throw me off, whatever it is is, here I am, doing a whole lot of nothing cause that's
all I'm capable of.
There is, of course, a lot of reaction to digest on the FIFA action against
Chelsea announced yesterday for inducing Gaël Kakuta to break
his contract with Lens and sign with the London club.
