We run the rule over D.C. United's other Tico forward.

This time last year, none of us expected to hear the phrase "D.C. United forward Jairo Arrieta." But here we are. The Costa Rican joined the Black-and-Red last January via a surprise trade with Orlando City, who had taken the former Columbus Crew striker in the expansion draft.

B&RU Player of the month for March: Jairo Arrieta

Black and Red United at related • 0 views

United's new Costa Rican striker was brought in as depth, but has made a good first impression.

In a month where Fabian Espindola, Luis Silva, and Eddie Johnson combined to make one appearance, D.C. United quite clearly needed someone else to step up and produce on the attacking end. However, a compelling case could be made that United's needs are just as acute at the back, where the stakes were even higher than normal due to the lack of firepower.

Toronto FC completed their first season sweep of the Columbus Crew last Saturday, and a big reason for their latest road win was rookie defender Nick Hagglund.

The No. 10 overall selection in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft started and playedthe full 90 minutes in TFC's 3-2 victory over the Crew, neutralizing forwards Adam Bedell, Jairo Arrieta, and playmaker Federico Higuain through the run of play.
