Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp was cleared of tax evasion charges earlier today, and
whilst that's great for him and Spurs, it could be bad news for Liverpool FC. The jury in the case
- which was heard at Southwark Crown Court - delivered a unanimous verdict in favour of Redknapp
and former Portsmouth Chairman Milan Mandaric, and afterwards, Redknapp blasted the decision to
bring the
Controversy is seemingly never far away when it comes to Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, and during
the recent Spurs game, he was booked for a dangerous kick on Scott Parker. After the game, Man
United thug Wayne Rooted tweeted that Suarez should've been sent off, and I'm sure there are people
out there that share that view.
Since signing for Chelsea in a £50million deal over a year ago, former Liverpool striker Fernando
Torres has mustered up a paltry three premier league goals. Clearly, he's still struggling to make
the grade at Stamford Bridge, which is mystifying considering his undeniable talent and quality.
Liverpool will probably be in the market for a new striker in the summer, and one player who will
almost definitely be available is Fiorentina's Stevan Jovetic. The Montenegrin has been
consistently linked with a move to the Premier League over the years, and Liverpool were definitely
interested in him at one point.
Liverpool's top four hopes are delicately balanced at the moment. The club is only four points
behind Chelsea, and with 42 points still to play for, fourth place is still very much in the club's
hands. However, Kenny Dalglish's team has struggled for consistency this season, and has regularly
failed to capitalise on the inconsistency of Chelsea and Arsenal.
Liverpool's goalless draw with Spurs on Monday night once again underlined the pressing need for
Kenny Dalglish to buy a striker capable of *regularly* scoring goals. Last week, Anfield legend
Steve Nicol argued that Fulham's Clint Dempsey could do a good job for one of the league's top
sides, and now he has gone one step further and suggested that Liverpool should actually think
about buying him
Former Liverpool striker Nicolas Anelka left Chelsea for Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua
in January, and for a brief period prior to signing, the Frenchman was dubiously linked with an
improbable return to Anfield. Anelka could've also joined Carlo Ancelotti at Paris St Germain, but
as he now reveals, the move held no interest for him.
With Glen Johnson ahead of him in the Anfield pecking order, Martin Kelly has been warming the
bench more often than not this season, which is a shame because he rarely lets Liverpool down when
he plays. As a result of Jose Enrique's injury, Kelly got his chance against Spurs last night, and
he was arguably one of the best players on the pitch.
Former Liverpool winger John Barnes has agreed to manage one of the 'franchise' teams in India's
first professional football tournament. The tournament - scheduled to begin on th 24th March —
will contain six 'franchises', and will be organised by Celebrity Management Group and the Indian
Football Association.
Manchester City's Carlos Tevez is one of the most maligned players in the Premier League at the
moment, and Liverpool legend Steve Nicol recently argued that "the football world would think a lot
less about Mancini if he does decide to let him come back". Nicol's former team-mate Mark Lawrenson
seems to be a lot more forgiving though, and he believes Tevez could still play an important role
for
Liverpool drew their 8th Premier League home game of the season against Spurs last night, and
whilst the club is only four points off a champions league place at the moment, history suggests
that a top four finish is now practically impossible.Liverpool have dropped a staggering 16 points
at home this season.
Liverpool drew their 8th home league game of the season against Spurs last night, and after the
game, Kenny Dalglish declared that he was 'really pleased' with the way the team played. Dalglish's
former team-mate Steve Nicol had the opposite reaction, and bemoaned the quality of Liverpool's
play in the attacking third of the field.
Luis Suarez's return to action against Spurs last night was not enough to inspire Liverpool to
victory, but once again, the Uruguayan sparked a major talking point. This time, Suarez kicked
Scott Parker when trying to get the ball, and received a yellow card for his trouble. Any
fair-minded person can see that it was clearly accidental, but as all Liverpool fans know,
Manchester United thug
Luis Suarez is back for Liverpool, and most fans will be hoping that he goes straight back into the
starting line-up to face Spurs tonight. Is that going to happen though? Liverpool are in a great
run of form, and is breaking up a winning team the best thing to do at this stage? For Liverpool
legend Steve Nicol, it's not even up for debate: Suarez must start.
Over the weekend, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish publicly praised returning striker Luis Suarez,
gushing that he is 'loved and revered' at Anfield. Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher aside, the
last non-Liverpudlian player to receive such acclaim and adulation was (arguably) Fernando Torres,
but legend Alan Hansen believes that Suarez has now eclipsed the Spaniard's popularity.
As a player, former Spurs and Newcastle winger Chris Waddle was on the winning side at Anfield only
once during his entire playing career. The winger - nicknamed 'Magic Chris' by Marseille fans
during his stint in France - hopes that Harry Redknapp's Spurs team can do the business in
tonight's hotly anticipated game at Anfield, but irrespective of the result, Waddle believes

Liverpool are in the midst of a mini-resurgence at the moment; the Carling Cup Final awaits;
hated-rivals Man United were recently dispatched with ease in the FA Cup, and it was back to
winning ways in the premier league against Wolves last week. Things are definitely looking bright,
but the plain fact is Liverpool are still seventh in the league, five points behind fourth placed
Chelsea in.
Craig Bellamy has been fantastic for Liverpool so far this season, and with 9 goals and 7 assists
to his name already, he is arguably the club's most important attacking player right now. Dirk Kuyt
played alongside Bellamy during his first stint at Anfield, and he believes that the Welshman is an
even better player now.
The decision to strip Chelsea's John Terry of the England captaincy has polarised opinion across
the football world, and many fair-minded people will be concerned by the FA's apparent failure to
observe the principle of 'innocent until proven guilty'. On Friday, Liverpool legend Steve Nicol
labelled the FA's decision as 'stupid', but his former team-mate Mark Lawrenson claims there may be
more
Liverpool midfielder Jay Spearing's bid to establish himself as a viable replacement for Lucas
Leiva was disrupted recently with a red card and an injury in quick succession recently, but the
homegrown midfielder returned to great effect against Manchester City and Wolves, and according to
Liverpool legend Jan Molby, Spearing is becoming one of the most important players in Kenny
Dalglish's team,
Before the January transfer window closed, Liverpool legend John Barnes urged the club to sign
'classic centre-forward' Gonzalo Higuain, a player who has been regularly linked to Anfield over
the last six months. The Real Madrid forward seems settled at the Bernabeau, but his Agent has now
revealed that there are two circumstances that would make the striker think about leaving Madrid.
Liverpool legend Steve Nicol has slammed the FA's decision to strip Chelsea's John Terry of the
England captaincy. Terry is currently awaiting trial for the alleged racial abuse of QPR's Anton
Ferdinand, and although he is innocent until proven guilty, the FA has take action that could be
construed as a punishment.
Liverpool face Spurs on Monday night at Anfield, and I'm sure fans of both clubs are excited about
what could potentially be a fantastic game. Kenny Dalglish will have a major selection headache to
deal with, namely what to do with Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, and Mark Lawrenson has warned that
the wrong decision could lead to dire consequences for Liverpool.
A few days ago, Mark Lawrenson argued that Arsene Wenger would probably 'fall on his sword' at the
end of the season, especially if he failed to guide Arsenal into next season's Champions League.
Liverpool legend Alan Hansen agrees with his former defensive partner, and believes the next 8-10
weeks could be the defining period of Wenger's reign.
Who should replace Chelsea's John Terry as England captain? Former England and Aston Villa manager
Graham Taylor believes that Liverpool talisman Steven Gerrard is the ideal candidate for the job,
but only if he can prove that he's up to it. Speaking to BBC Sport, Taylor argued:"Gerrard's been
captain before and I'd expect [Fabio] Capello to give it to him if he gets his top-class form back.
During his playing career, Liverpool legend Graeme Souness played alongside some fantastically
talented players, and according to the combative midfielder, Spurs legend Glenn Hoddle is as good
as any of them.In an interview with TalkSport, Souness enthused:"He [Hoddle] was a star. "He had
ridiculous ability, and in terms of sheer talent, he was up there with anyone you want to name.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish recently launched an impassioned defence of 20m winger Stewart
Downing, arguing that he was a 'better player than he thought he was' when he signed for the club.
Kenny's former team-mate Mark Lawrenson has a different view.Speaking on Today FM recently, Lawro
was more truthful than Dalglish about Downing's impact at Liverpool so far:"The last few times I
have seen
As a team, Liverpool's passing accuracy in the Premier League so far this season is 81%, which is
fairly good, but it means means that 19% of passes are being misplaced in every league game. Who
are biggest culprits when it comes to giving the ball away? Before you read any further, try and
guess who are the worst offenders.
Luis Suarez is back for Liverpool, and with no other problems to contend with apart from Lucas's
long-term injury, Kenny Dalglish is in the enviable position of having a fully-fit squad available
for Monday night's game at Spurs. Having so many players to choose from is obviously a positive,
and it fosters great competition within the squad, but as Kenny admits, it can also be a
double-edged
After the recent defeat at Bolton, many fans were surprised by Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish's
ferocious public attack on his players, but Jamie Redknapp - who was signed by Dalglish during his
first spell in charge at the club - believes the public rebuke was the right tactic to employ, and
he feels it will lay a positive foundation for the rest of the season.
Liverpool were linked with dozens of players during the January transfer window, and one of the
names that kept popping up was Aston Villa's Darren Bent. With 164 goals and 39 assists in the last
nine seasons, the England International definitely matches the type of player Liverpool need (and
arguably still need), but the Bent has now revealed that a transfer was never realistically on the
Ex-Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse has been targeted by racist morons on twitter after moving from
Lazio to QPR. Cisse is the latest in a long-line of players to be bombarded with racist abuse on
Twitter, a site that does absolutely nothing proactive to stop anonymous idiots from engaging in
all kinds of online bullying and abuse.
Dietman Hamann will forever be remembered and revered by Liverpool fans for his impact in the
Champions League final in 2005, but as the former German International revealed recently, he went
into that match thinking it was his last game for the club, and he was even more disappointed to
discover that he wasn't even in the starting line-up.
Liverpool's Raheem Sterling is building up a very positive reputation in the club's youth set-up,
with Ian Rush recently describing him as 'very similar to Michael Owen'. Former Liverpool
midfielder Jamie Redknapp is also a big fan of youngster, and hopes that he'll get a chance in the
first team sooner rather than later.
Last month, I conducted a survey on this site asking if Liverpool fans would be happy if the club
signed Carlos Tevez, and over 63% of fans who took part in the poll voted yes. Liverpool legend
Steve Nicol was asked yesterday if he would like to see Tevez at Anfield, and he gave a completely
different answer.
Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse has a knack of scoring debut goals, and he's off to a flying
start at his new club QPR with an excellent first-half goal against Aston Villa.Cisse - aka 'Lord
of the Manor of Frodsham', the title he held when he played for Liverpool - scored 24 goals in 79
appearances during his time at Anfield.
Jose Enrique has been excellent for Liverpool football club since arriving from Newcastle United,
and he has (arguably) proven to the most consistent of all Kenny Dalglish's summer signings. John
Aldridge is a big fan of the player, but he believes the Spaniard's form has tailed off a little
over the last few weeks.
Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has launched a scathing attack on Andrei Arshavin, arguing that the
Russian International striker no longer cares about playing for Arsenal. Arshavin was at fault for
Manchester United's winning goal against Arsenal recently, and Lawro believes it's time for the
player to leave the Emirates.
In his press conference on Monday, Kenny Dalglish stated that Liverpool would not be buying any new
players during the January transfer window, and he was true to his word as no new players signed in
at Anfield last night. Transfer speculation is a normal and expected part of the month of January,
yet this cuts no ice with Dalglish, who once again blasted the press for daring to ask perfectly
After a long barren spell in the premier league, Dirk Kuyt finally scored his 50th league goal for
Liverpool last night. The Dutchman has been in and out of the team this season, but he's delivered
at a time when the club really needed it, and he's confident that Liverpool can now push on and
secure a coveted champions league place.
