I have to declare an interest here. I wasn't able to see this game. All I have are the postmatch
comments of both the team and friends who called me after the game to fill me in.
What I can say is that a point in Kansas is a very valuable one at this stage of the season. I know
the Rapids are not picking up three points on anything like a consistent basis but we cannot
underestimate the injuries that have befallen them.

Random notes from the Colorado Rapids' third draw in nine days, a 0-0 tie with the Kansas City
Wizards on Saturday night at Community America Ballpark:
SIZE MATTERS: The official dimensions of the pitch at Dick's Sporting Goods
Park are 120 yards long by 80 yards wide. In contrast, the fields surrounding Dick's are 110 by
70.

Quotes from last night's 1-1 tie with San Jose Earthquakes:Pablo Mastroeni:"It would have been nice to get three points, obviously. We can't sit and sulk and feel sorry for
ourselves. We just have to show up and be the team we are capable of."
Conor Casey:"It was a good point given the circumstances but it was a terrible game from us.

You've got to be kidding. For the second time in less than a week, Conor Casey scored on a
penalty kick deep into extra time as the Colorado Rapids tied the San Jose Earthquakes 1-1.

Conor Casey stood up tall again tonight as he netted an injury time penalty to
allow the
Colorado Rapids to pick up another point. A 67th minute penalty from
Chris Wondolowski gave the San Jose Earthquakes the lead before Casey's late penalty.
The Rapids could simply not break down a stubborn San Jose defense for most of the game and failed
to create many chances on the night.

Imagine the array of emotions for Ryan Johnson on Friday night. The San Jose Earthquakes striker
scored his team's only goal in the eighth minute of a 1-1 tie against the Colorado Rapids. Then the
24-year-old committed the foul deep into extra time that produced a penalty kick for Colorado and
the Rapids' only goal.

When I posted my expansion draft preview recently, the subject that stirred up the most debate was
this one. Anyone who's followed MLS for a number of years knows that it's a bit of a mystery. When
exactly do Generation Adidas players graduate, and what are the criteria?
Basically, players are supposed to graduate when they no longer need the roster protection that it
provides.

If you didn't watch the Colorado Rapids' 3-2 loss to Toronto on Saturday, don't be fooled by the
score. This was no five-goal explosion of offense. It was a 1-1 struggle blown open by two quick
Toronto goals midway through the second half.
Substitute Michael Holody scored his first Major League Soccer goal in his second Major League
Soccer game, but by that time (the 89th minute), the deed was done.

Random thoughts and ideas from the Colorado Rapids' shameful 3-2 loss against the Fire on Sunday
evening in Chicago.
OMAR'S FIRST GOAL: Two things went right on Omar Cummings' goal in the first
five minutes of the second half. First, Jamie Smith's shot was difficult enough that Chicago
goalkeeper Jon Busch couldn't handle it cleanly.

The Rapids fly to Chicago tomorrow for the first of two pivotal games against top flight opponents.
While
Gary Smith only cares about the minimum 40 points for a playoff spot at the
end of the season, he knows that remaining undefeated against Chicago this weekend and at home to
Houston next weekend will be key to confidence going forward into the home stretch.

Gary Smith isn't ruling out going into the transfer market to replace the
unfortunate
Colin Clark but don't hold your breath. At this stage in the season,
the head coach doesn't want to upset the balance of the squad he already has and, as assistant
Steve Guppy also said recently, it's not as if you can just go out there and pick
up another Colin Clark.

Given very poor planning on my part, I will again miss the Rapids game this weekend. Two games in a
row, very poor form. So, I won't be posting a match report as the chances of me both finding a tv
in Philadelphia that may actually show it and be on the good side of my significant other are slim
to none.

"I'm so disappointed Dad." My four-year-old son summed it up so well when I told him that
Terry Cooke had been waived from the Colorado Rapids. I'm sure
Jamie
Smith will turn out to be a good player for the Rapids but to see Cooke go is right up
there with the departures of Bouna Coundoul and Herculez Gomez.

We had plenty of goals scored in week number 19 in Major League Soccer. A few PKs, own goals and
a lot of nice one touch shots. The best in some folks eyes will probably be the midfield bomb by
KC's Claudio Lopez though. I would be shocked to see another goal pass that one up for goal of the
week.

Rapids defender Kosuke Kimura was the man of the match on Saturday against Dallas. His goal late
in the second half was the deciding moment in Colorado's 1-0 victory, but his energetic play
throughout the game was a key component in the team's plan to keep the Hoops on their heels. Kimura
took some time to talk about his attacking style of play against FC Dallas and the state of the
Rapids' back line.

Omar Cummings did what he has consistently done over the last few games, saving
the
Colorado Rapids from losing their unbeaten streak yesterday with a well-taken
goal just six minutes from the end of a frustrating game against a brave Dallas team. The Jamaican
international calmly took a great ball from
Mehdi Ballouchy just outside the
penalty area, beat two defenders and shot past Dallas goalkeeper Burse.

So much for the signing of a new forward or forwards to back up Cummings and Casey.
Gary
Smith won't be able to get any new signing in time for this weekend's game just as
Conor Casey is called into the national squad a little earlier than expected.
Casey has been called into the World Cup qualifying squad for Saturday's game against Honduras in
Chicago as cover for an injured Brian Ching.

Conor Casey suspended,
Omar Cummings on international duty.
Landon Donovan and David Beckham away internationally too. Add to the mix that the Colorado Rapids
have only one half-fit true striker available and, at first glance, you have to wonder where the
goals are going to come from in tomorrow's game against the LA Galaxy.

Well, maybe it's a bit broken now. Defensive lapses in the opening 20 minutes of this game put paid
to the
Colorado Rapids' recent unbeaten streak. Brian Ching showed his class as he
scored twice in the opening seven minutes, the Rapids both times giving him far too much room. A
poor clearance from goalkeeper, Preston Burpo, in the opening minutes found its way to onrushing
Houston forwards and the defense could not keep up with Ching.

There's always some jerk that finds gloom and a bright, sunny day. Today I'm that jerk. Don't
get me wrong, DC United may have not came to play. But the Rapids did their job for most part. They
kept pressure on them and didn't let them get things rolling.
The Rapids went into half-time tied up at zero with DC United.

Maybe this is what
Colorado Rapids' coach,
Fernando Clavijo,
thinks to himself when he's on the seat of his Harley approaching Estes Park. How am I going to get
the most out of my big players and what is the best formation to fit the biggest of them all,
Christian Gomez?

The word on the street is that the Rapids coach Fernando Clavijo wanted to trade for Kansas City's
Sasha Victorine before the Sept 15th deadline. What and who was he offering? Two 2nd year players
from the Rapids - Colin Clarke and Jacob Peterson. No word on if KC was willing to pull the trigger
on this one or not. It's a moot point though. The way it was it was told, it was the Rapids FO that
overruled Clavijo.
