Just in case you were thinking of brushing up on some of the local languages before heading to
South Africa for World Cup 2010, you should know that watching this clip is far cheaper than buying
Rosetta Stone: Afrikaans Edition. You'll never learn how to find a toilet or order a beer with this
but at the very least you'll still have money to buy the beer you can't order.

World Cup 2010 gets the expose-esque documentary treatment from South African filmmaker Craig
Tanner and Levitation Films. It already caused a bit of a stir at the Durban International Film
Festival and looks to repeat the trick worldwide upon it's release (date TBD).
According to the filmmakers "Fahrenheit 2010 cuts through the hype, with an uncompromising
examination of what the World Cup means for South Africans themselves - in particular, who actually
stands to benefit from the diversion of millions of dollars to build 21st century sports arenas in
a country in which, 15 years after throwing off apartheid's yoke, millions live in shacks and have
no access to water – a South Africa where life expectancy has plummeted to below that of
Ethiopia.

I'm sure that by now you've seen the trailer or some of the outstanding propoganda for the upcoming
film
District 9. But did you know it was based on a short film by Neill Blomkamp (director
of the upcoming
Halo film) called
Alive in Joburg? If you're interested in seeing
D-9 this is a must-watch that lays out the basic premise of the film.

The local Fox affiliate in Portland did a piece on the Timbers/Real Salt Lake young'un Alex Nimo. I
love the loan move on RSL's part and it would be nice to see more MLS clubs do this with their
prospects so long as they are getting to actually play with the USL clubs. No sense sending
somebody somewhere else to ride oine when they could do that at home.

From FSN --who will be airing tomorrow night's Seattle v. Portland U.S. Open Cup match live-- it's
Steve Zakuani "In His Own Words". Between me and you (and the 10K other people that read this)
don't you think that the Rookie of the Year race so far has been a two-horse race between him and
Chris Pontius?

It's funny how there are personnel fads in MLS. A few years ago D.C. United was importing
Argentines at what seemed like a rate of one per month. Now, with 5 African players now amongst
it's ranks, New England is mining Africa for all it's worth although RBNY seems to hot on it's
heels with 4 players from the motherland.

MLS expansion contenders --some would say front-runners-- are on tour in Africa and Van24Sports are
riding shotgun. The clip above is from their match against Yanga FC of Tanzania. Check Van24Sports'

I'm not sure what's going on here. Is it a rap? Is it poetry? Or is Dynamo striker Kei Kamara just
on some other sh*t? There was some dancing there so I think it might be a rap. But it doesn't
always flow so maybe it's some abstract, post swearing-in poetry type of thing. It appears to be
possibly filmed in a bathroom so maybe it's more of a confessional.

Forget going to South Africa for the Confederations Cup or World Cup. I should have gone down there
for Miss World; that's where the real talent is. Good to know I'm not the only one interested in
mixing flesh and footie.

South Africa's Danleigh Borman is a bit of a mystery to me. He had a couple of weeks in May where
his sex was on fire and I thought he might become a regular starter but then just as quickly he was
back on the bench. Still though, he's shown flashes --at least to my untrained eye-- of some real
skill that might well benefit RBNY and the Bafana Bafana.

Hey y'all. If you are in the Gotham area and you'd like to aid in helping fight AIDS in Africa,
have a $125 tax write-off in February, and get trollied in the presence of all manner of
Soccerati™ you should really think about coming to Ethan Zohn's blowout at Marquee on
Thursday night.
Please excuse the ghetto Photoshop job I did on the flyer but I thought that I'd mention some of
the names that are expected to be in the house in hopes of enticing you into joining me and a few
of the other DP's for a good night out for a good cause.

He may not play in the league anymore but USL-1 has named taller than all get-out Red Bull New York
striker Macoumba Kandji to it's 2008 All-League team. Congrats to my dude on the accolade and the
precision assist in your MLS debut. Now get to scoring.

Hillcrest Road has a story about a good guy by the name of T.J. Wibdin. He's 20 years old and is
doing a lot to help cats in Kenya (and by cats I mean people, not wild animals) get much-needed
boots, jersey's and balls with which to play the game. And maybe he's even a secret foreign agent
for the Wizards.

You may have read the BBC recent article on the world of shady football agents and their outrageous
handling of African prospects in Europe. These 'street agents' are known to entice players and
their families to them pay ludicrous fee's by feeding them a load of empty promises of European
football glory.

Mansally to Nyassi, then Nyassi to Mansally.
Taking a page from Donovan and Beckham's reciprical hijinks a week ago, New England's 2 young
African aces stuck it to Kansas City last night. While most of us were getting our annual CONCACAF
reality check, these two were complimenting each other like PB & J.

People much more credible than myself have given a lot of time over to the African Cup of Nations
as of late. For the American follower the two stories revolve around the Rapids; current keeper
Bouna Condoul is minding the net for Senegal and former player Junior Agogo (if ever there was a
name that just said "good times" that is it) scored fro Ghana the other day.
