The Powerhouses of Amputee Football - Liberia's "Lone Stars"
Used as a tool to help overcome the discrimination against amputees and the disabled, the
Amputee Football Championship is a tournament dedicated to appreciating the athleticism and skill
of those who often feel unwanted by their surrounding society and even struggle to survive, as
profiled by Chicago Tribune photographer Kuni Takahashi.
It has been a while since I posted anything but I just came across these highlights of the African
Nations Cup for amputees. Field players must have only one leg, goalkeepers only one arm. Liberia
defeated hosts Ghana in a shootout in the final to earn a place at the Amputee World Cup in Iran in
2012.

I posted yesterday on Twitter my concerns over the likely attendance at the Bung Karno for the Iran
game in a week when the Indonesian Under 23 team were wowing fans at the SEA Games.
Iran: where Vinnie Jones would be public enemy number one Two Iranian players have been suspended
after touching up their team-mates during goal celebrations. Persepolis defender Mohammed Nosrati
can be seen feeling the bottom of teammate Sheis Rezaei in the video above. Rezaei later squeezed
the backside of another teammate in the match against Damash [.
At the moment, Adrian Mutu stands as the very, very poor posterchild for cocaine in football.
Perhaps for consideration is also Francesco Flachi, who might be floating around an unofficial
pitch somewhere, serving something like eight life suspensions for his none-too-small coke problem.
(He's "only" suspended until 2022, actually.
With the SEA Games, an Under 23 event, taking precedence over everything, including World Cup
Qualifiers, the PSSI are busy scampering round trying to fine a venue to host the WCQ between
Indonesia and Iran.
The game is scheduled on 15 November, check the AFC website, but that date falls slap bang in the
middle of the SEA Games with Indonesia's Under 23s playing Thailand on the same day.

The U.S. Futsal national team, led by Milwaukee Wave coach Keith Tozer, finished 0-3 at
the Grand Prix tournament in Manaus, Brazil.
The Americans, ranked 24th in the world, lost to No. 27 Uruguay 7-0 and sixth-ranked Iran 8-0 on
Monday before closing out Group C play at the elite tournament Tuesday with a 10-7 loss to
Belgium.
*They know that after Morelia beat Alajuelense Tuesday. Here are the standings in the group.
Their opponents Thursday haven't won a game in the competition.
*The Chivas USA reserves won today. Woo hoo!
*The U.S. Futsal National Team, which includes four players who play at Torrance's South Coast
Soccer City, was "pulverized by Iran" after earlier losing 7-0 to Uruguay in a tourament in
Brazil.
The new Missouri Comets season is less than a month away at this point. The team is preparing for
the season, and one thing that has changed is the number of teams. The Chicago team is no longer
looking like it'll be in the league. The team's schedule has no reference to the Chicago team that
was mentioned in previous releases by the league.

We've reason to believe (someone chap just told us) that Bahrain defender Rashed Al Hooti's
dismissal for a rash clatter of a challenge against Iran last night is the fastest red card ever
administered at international level in the history of recorded time.
Rash challenge Bahrain player Rashed Al Hooti lived up to his name with an overzealous challenge
against Iran that earnt him the the quickest red card ever shown in international football. El
Hooti was given his marching orders just 43 seconds into his side's match after diving in to a
challenge unnecessarily.
Some good ones in MLS this week. My vote goes to Nizar Khalfan's laser-guided effort. Iran outfit
Sepahan's Emad Mohammed's insanity here comes after he megged his defender. There seemed to be some
gravity defiance in this shot. Slask Wroclaw's Sebastian Mila imitates the Earth's curvature with a
divine free kick.
Another month has come and gone and so it's time for another WCR Monthly International RPI
Rankings. With all of the matches in September, I was expecting a lot of movement. I guess there
was quite a bit but nothing as significant as I had expected. The most movement occurred with clubs
in UEFA.
Following on from Indonesia's poor start to their World Cup Qualifying campaign, two defeats
against Iran and Bahrain, it was being mumbled in some corners that it might be better to drop the
whole team and bring in the Under 23s as they prepare for their SEA Games campaign next month.
We've been here before.
Turkish football authorities have pioneered a remarkable anti-hooliganism tactic: allowing only
women and children to watch a game. Initially after violence marred a Fenerbahce match authorities
had decided to ban all fans from two games. Then someone instead suggested only allowing certain
fans.
Yep, Jordan away on 27 August before moving on to Tehran for their first World Cup qualifier
against Iran.
Rah Ahan An Iranian Experiment is a post from: Just Football
by Mehdi Rahnama
The long awaited privatisation of government-owned football clubs in Iran has begun. The first
team to be officially handed over to the private sector was Rah Ahan. Owned by the
Rail Road Company of Iran until months ago, Rah Ahan football club has been the first and, so far,
only Iranian Premier League team to be offered to the public.
Another month has ended and it's time for an updated Monthly International RPI Rankings. The big
mover of the month was Vanuatu because it has finally played enough matches in the past four years
to qualify for the rankings. So, I guess it didn't move as much as it merely qualified for the
first time.

All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) President Mr. Ganesh Thapa was elected as vice-president of
Asian Football Confederation (AFC) during the 24th AFC Congress held in Doha, Qatar on Thursday.
This is the first time in the history of Nepalese football where Mr. Ganesh Thapa is elected as a
Vice- President in the Asian supreme football body.
Three South East Asian teams will be listening carefully to this Saturday's World Cup draw. Their
fate will be decided along with the other 17 remaining countries on the road to Brazil.
Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore will not be drawn against each other, that's for sure. Instead
they will face one from each of the following 'pots'.

In its first meeting for its 2011-2015 term, the Vision Asia Committee of the Asian Football
Confederation recommended revisions to the program to the AFC Executive Committee. Following a
request from the All India Football Federation, Visian India projects will be started with the
cities of Mumbai, Pune and Chandigarh in the first phase, rather than in collaboration with State

In the same week that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced her Women's World Cup
initiative, aimed at empowering girls and women around the world through sports, comes news that
FIFA, the world governing body for soccer, has disqualified the Iranian women's team from their
Olympic qualifying match for showing up to play wearing the hijab.
Iran, South Africa, UAE and Morocco bidding for Club World Cup
Japan and United Arab Emirates have hosted the CWC in its current format. That the USA (say
South Florida, LA, Phoenix or Texas?) isn't hosting this tournament at some point is silly.
One of great goals that I love in football is the goals that are smart and the player uses his head
more than his feet. Last week Badr Al-Motawao, Kuwaiti player who plays for Al-Nasr from Saudi
Arabia scored one of those goals against Istiqlal from Iran.
Recently, I was watching YouTube videos when I came across this wonderful goal for Zuhair Bakheet
from UAE, he was one of the players that had amazing 'sensitive' skills, and was kind of the Luis
Garcia for the region.
Off The Ball never rests in its mission to scratch around the underbelly of professional
football to find the most bizarre, humorous and inexplicable stories.
This week, Barcelona begin the Clasico mind games by giving Real Madrid the manita, Diego
Maradona's 1986 Golden Ball is 'melted down' by the mafia, Nemanja Vidic almost cries, Luis 'The
Owl Kicker' Moreno boots a human and an awful statue of David Beckham is unveiled in Iran.

Brazil may be in for a testing time when they face Scotland at Arsenal's Emirates stadium on
Sunday. After recent poor results, coach Mano Menezes could be feeling a bit jittery when his team
take to the pitch against a backdrop of the massed ranks of the Tartan Army.
Until now Menezes has enjoyed popular support.
DOHA, Qatar — Three-time champions Japan have long expected to face South Korea at the Asian Cup
and are ready for a tough semi-final with their old cross-strait rivals. South Korea edged Iran 1-0
on Saturday with a 105th-minute winner from substitute Yoon Bit-Garam to book a last-four clash
with the Blue Samurai, who struggled [.
Substitute midfielder Yoon Bit-garam's 105th minute goal put South Korea into the semi-finals of
the AFC Asian Cup 2011 with a 1-0 victory over fellow regional powerhouse Iran on Saturday. The
result sets up a meeting with archrival and fellow tournament favorite Japan on Tuesday. Teams:
Iran: Mahdi Rahmati; Jalal Hosseini, Hadi Aghili, Ehsan Haji Safi, Mohammad Nosrati [.
DOHA, Qatar — Substitute midfielder Yoon Bit-garam drilled a left-foot shot from the edge of
the penalty box in extra time Saturday to send South Korea into the semifinals of the Asian Cup
with a 1-0 victory over perennial rival Iran. Yoon found the into the lower right corner of the net
during injury time [.
Japan looked down and out, down 2-1 and a man halfway through the second half, the clear
momentum shifting to the hosts. And then Qatar met Shinji Kagawa.
Well, they'd already met him since he technically nodded in Japan's first goal too, even if it
was going in anyway.
One of Europe's brightest new stars, absolute terror of the Bundesliga, scored the first goal
while Japan was down a man, then created the winner in the 90th minute while, sending Japan into
the semifinal to face the winner of South Korea and Iran.
Defending champions Iraq qualified for the quarter-final stages of the 2011 AFC Asian Cup along
with Group D winners Iran as the full line-up for the next round is known.
Iraq got through a tough tie against North Korea on Wednesday with a slender 1-0 win thanks to a
22nd minute Karrar Jassim goal.
DOHA, Qatar — Dominant three-time champions Iran cruised past the United Arab Emirates 3-0 at the
Asian Cup Wednesday to finish the group stage as the only side with a 100 percent record. Striker
Arash Afshin opened the scoring in the 70th minute only to be sent off for a fierce challenge on
UAE goalkeeper [.
