If not for one thrilling 97th minute goal, the USA v. Venezuela friendly would have been
forgettable at best. A team that had looked aimless most of the night was matched against players
with a very defensive mindset, and thus little progress was made on either end of the pitch. Once
the US began finding [.

ENGLAND hosted the current FIFA World Champions SPAIN at Wembley for an International Friendly with
the home side winning 1 - 0. Another defeat for Spain in a Friendly that is not to much of a drama
but has lessons that should be noted as there are signs that call for attention & correction.

It's USMNT game day and we're pumped as always to see what Klinnsmann and the Nats have in store
for us, but it's the above retro clip that has us buzzing as well.

he sent us a link to the above clip that he posted to YouTube yesterday.
Good first half. Familiar lack of finishing. Weak second and predictably punished. The defense did
look better organized (at least until Bocanegra left) though uncomfortable against the quick
counter, something that should have Mexico salivating. Anyway, just a few thoughts...
* Chandler looked really impressive at the problem left back spot.
A win, 1-0 over a second-tier CONCACAF side, and probably just about a deserved one, though by
no means hugely impressive. The US showed well in patches against Honduras, and a couple of
individuals can be proud of their performances, but collectively, the one word that consistently
appears in my notes, often double- or triple-underlined, is sloppy.
Granted, these early matches under the Klinsmann regime are all about assessing players and
introducing the new boss's style, so it's not yet time to go overboard with complaints about
players who don't belong, defensive disorganization, and lack of chances created. Sadly, my
suspicion is that we're going to have plenty of chances to file those complaints down the road.
Spain came from 2-0 down to beat Chile 3-2 last night in a so called friendly in Chile last
night which turned ugly in the 90th minute with both sets of players and officials involved
in a brawl.
The SPANISH FOOTBALL NATIONAL TEAM managed to comeback & defeat a difficult CHILE 3 - 2 tonight in
an International Friendly played in Geneva ( Switzerland). There was two SPAINs tonight: a terrible

victory came thanks to a "non-existent" last minute penalty that rebounded back into the path of
The SPANISH FOOTBALL Federation has announced today that SPAIN will meet CHILE in an upcoming
Friendly International to be played in Geneva (Switzerland) on the 2nd of September. The cited game
for Spain was originally meant for Brazil, which pulled out & cancelled without any real reason,
which leads to suspect that they wished to confront the current World Champions under better
conditions.
Was out of town yesterday & couldn´t post the last two ( A-team & U-20) SPANISH FOOTBALL NATIONAL
TEAM encounters, which ended with a draw, that is, a loss & a win. Although the news is now old,
SPAIN lost 2 -1 at Bari to home team ITALY, & the U-20 youngsters won 7-6 SOUTH KOREA in the
penalty shoot out after their match finished 0 - 0 at the U-20 FIFA World Championships.
Los Eternos Rivales, eh?
It certainly started to look like it after about 30 minutes when the Mexico we've come to know
and love started asserting is prickish best after looking in a different class for the first half
hour. It's been weird lately, watching Mexico play within themselves, so it came as something of a
relief when their true colors started bleeding through.
After one of the more uninteresting first-half performances seen in a while, the US Men's
National team produced an encouraging second half that will leave Jurgen
Klinsmann with plenty of optimism after his debut game. The final score of against Mexico
finished 1-1.
Goals by Riccardo Montolivo and a late Alberto Aquilani strike saw Italy beat Spain 2-1 during the
midweek spate of matches. Xabi Alonso had temporarily levelled for the European and World champions
at the Stadio Comunale San Nicola in Bari. However, it was Liverpool forgotten man Alberto Aquilani
who hit the winner six minutes from [.

An embarrassing first half followed by a more competitive second with the introductions of Dempsey,
Cherundolo, and Bradley. A few very quick thoughts?
- Bradley is the first choice in central midfield, no question. His partner is open to debate. With
a healthy Holden available, I'd be leaning that way, but of those on offer, I'd probably opt for
Edu at the moment.

Let's be honest. After the stirring fightback against Argentina, you always knew the heavy legs and
emotional comedown were going to cost the US against a side built to grind out results. While there
were significant flaws, the performance was actually better than I expected and, save for a set
piece let down and a possible missed PK call by the ref, the song might have been a more satisfying
one come the final whistle.

The reigning World Champions SPAIN won 1 - 0 COLOMBIA in tonights Friendly International match

About 15,000 tickets - yes, many of them to Chileans - have been sold for tonight's annual

reporter Phil Collin observes.
The result of this game, perhaps, matters even less than it has in the past seven years, but to
me it still boasts several compelling features.
