Rugby World Cup-winner Jonny Wilkinson helped Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye to battle depression, the Frenchman has admitted. Cabaye revealed he turned to Wilkinson's book for advice as he struggled with depression after Euro 2012. The 27-year-old said: said: "Depression? I am not afraid to say that.
On Tuesday afternoon England defeated Ukraine 1-0 in a match that will be remembered more for
the brave effort of the Ukrainian side than the quality and execution of the Three Lions.
Hours before the match kicked off, former England captain David Beckham shared his thoughts on
the chances of his country advancing past the group stage.
There's finally a chance to move on from a considerable amount of nothings to a month worth of
somethings worth paying attention to, with Euro 2012 kicking off in Poland and continuing
throughout the month. There'll be two matches per day for the next week and a half, allowing us a
chance to shift our focus from Liverpool to supposedly meaningful international competition.
One of the best parts of coming together and bonding at an international competition is the
memories to take with you forever. And the best way to leave a legacy? By taking a team portrait,
of course! You can bet that Thomas Mueller wants to dust off the framed photo from
2012 on his mantelpiece in the year 2050 and mutter: "Das beste Team aller Zeiten" ("The
Best Team Of All Time) to his eleven grandchildren.
Euro 2012 Betting Guide Five top bets for the Euros - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
With Euro 2012 less than a month away, the participating nations are starting to name their
squads for the tournament and the fans' enthusiasm is beginning to build. As with any international
competition, games thick and fast allow the punters to gamble on a daily basis in the search of
profits, and many will be reaching for the Euro 2012 betting guide to find a bargain price or
outside punt.
Enough with the doom and gloom, it's time for the news and notes. See what I did there? Yeah, I
know, sorry. Plus one of the items we've got for today involves "Steven Gerrard," "injuries," and
"English national team." Which doesn't bode well for moving on from said doom and gloom, but what
the hell.

Rooney Not Helping England - originally posted on Soccerlens.com
Last night Wayne Rooney's astonishing moment of stupidity ensures that Manchester United star is
set to miss the start of Euro 2012 next year. It remains to be seen whether he is handed more than
a single match ban by UEFA for his act of madness.
If you were closely following England's Euro 2008 qualifying campaign, particularly as a
supporter, it must have been a nightmare watching it all slip away in a bitter finale at
Wembley.
It was the month of November in 2007 and Croatia were in town having already qualified
themselves but certainly relishing the opportunity to shatter the Lions' dreams.
The U.S. women's national team's hopes for another Olympic gold medal are still alive, and so is
its shutout streak.
Abby Wambach scored in the first half, and substitute Sydney LeRoux ended all doubt with a late
clincher, as the U.S. women held off New Zealand 2-0 and advanced to the semifinals of the Olympic
tournament at St.
It should have been a dream return for Andy Carroll to St. Jame's Park, instead it turned out to
be a nightmare as Liverpool lost 2-0 to further complicate their chances of playing in Europe next
season. Sunday's loss makes it the third consecutive loss for Dalglish who is starting to feel the
heat of the job.
Time is winding down for Robin van Persie to make a move away from Arsenal, but the question
that remains is: Where exactly will he go?
The list of reported interested suitors in the Dutch international are some of the premier clubs
in the world. From Manchester United to Manchester City to Juventus, van Persie has attracted a
number of top teams who not only have an eye on their respective domestic leagues, but also on the
UEFA Champions League.
It's a good thing that this weekend is surrounded by two weeks of great matches coming from the
UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Copa Libertadores because this weekend's action is crap.
You know how much I enjoy telling you about all of the great matches coming up every weekend.
A sense of history is always relative, and in Australian sport any team, venue or personality
that has been around for more than a couple of decades is venerated as a hallowed asset to society.
Australia played a rugby international against Wales at the Sydney Football Stadium in mid-June, a
venue that had not seen international competition featuring the Wallabies since 1998.
While in Princeton, N.J., for the USA's May training camp, Studio 90 sat down with 21-year-old
Kristie Mewis, one of the top young players in the national team programs. Mewis saw quite a bit of
training time with the full U.S. team this year, but has yet to earn a cap.
She knows that she has been brought in just to learn and get a taste for the intense level of full
international competition, and for the rising senior at Boston College, it's been a soccer
experience of a lifetime.
The Euro's are my favorite international competition. At 16-teams you don't get some of the
lightweights that reach the World Cup FInals, which means that every game in the Euros is close,
with makes for compelling drama and must-watch TV.
The competition kicks off tomorrow and here is look into my crystal ball to see who will be
crowned European Champions.
Wales versus Paraguay at the Millennium Stadium, March 2006. A warm up match for Wales'
opponents ahead of the World Cup and a match I remember well for typifying John Toshack's Wales.
The performance was satisfactory, Wales didn't have as many shots as their opponents, but held
possession reasonably well.
In one of the biggest surprises in all of 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying, the tiny island nation of
Antigua and Barbuda have reached the semifinal round for the first time in history after defeating
Haiti and capturing the top spot in Group H. They won each of their first five matches in the
second round by a combined margin of 25-3.
Oct. 7, 2001, is a day that lives in U.S. Soccer history on many levels. Being the first team to
represent the United States in international competition since Sept. 11, the U.S. pulled out a
thrilling 2-1 victory against Jamaica, and with the other results in CONCACAF qualifying improbably
going their way, the team qualified for the 2002 FIFA World Cup that day.
Gary Neville: Those 'monster' WAGs just had to be stopped
It's gutting to look back on the 2006 World Cup finals as my last international competition, a
tournament that will always be remembered more for the wives and girlfriends than football.

don't have anything to report on that footing.

The MLS returns to action this evening, now that the FIFA-mandated international break has
mostly passed. The European Championships continue, but nearly every other international
competition has wrapped up this past week. So that means we're back to MLS soccer. All but one of
the Western Conference teams will be in action this weekend, with the San Jose Earthquakes waiting
until Wednesday to get their restart.
The Philadelphia Union announced on Tuesday that they will play Brad Guzan and Eric Lichaj's Aston

Over the course of history, repressive governments tend to have common characteristics that
define their operations and their impact on the world.
Since we're in the throes of international competition and most of the domestic league action is on
hiatus (save South America, where we are still getting a full slate of action), this week's Weekly
Club Rankings are being postponed a week in order to bring you the WCR International RPI Rankings
for September 2011.
