Israeli midfielder Ashraf Soliman was involved in arguably the most exciting game of his life when
Maccabi Umm al-Fahm took on Hapoel Afula in a cup tie. With his team 2-1 up and injury-time
looming, Soliman contrived to score perhaps the worst (or best depending how you look at it) own
goal ever as he [.
Manchester United produced a trademark comeback to force a draw at Stamford Bridge. Two Wayne
Rooney's penalties and a late equaliser by Javier Hernandez saw United snatching a draw from the
jaws of defeat, after having been 3-0 down at one stage, while David DeGea produced two
outstanding saves deep in injury time to deny Chelsea [.
Newcastle now have 39 points after 23 games in the league, and that's just 7 points short of our
overall total after 38 games last season, when we finished 12th. Gabriel Obertan after scoring
in injury time last night So there's a good likelihood Newcastle can do a lot better this
season, and we are on track for 64 points, and that was good [.
Andy Carroll who has come under intense fire from the Liverpool faithful the past few weeks for
his inconsistent performances, responded to his critics by scoring in Liverpool's 3-0 win over
Wolves yesterday.
The £35 million signing from Newcastle opened the scoring for the Reds, to take his tally for
the club to 7.
It seems that a lot of people are not talking about football these days. Whether it be racism,
gayism (ok not sure if that's an actual word) or other outrageous incidents not even related to the
beautiful game. Here are a few things which I think should be brought back/or removed to help bring
the English game back to the glory days of the 90s.
THFC1882 welcomes back guest writer Kenny Palmer with a preview of Tottenham
Hotspur versus Wigan.
A week is a long time in football, as Spurs two contrasting performances highlighted. Heroic in
defeat against Manchester City earning plaudits for the character they showed in coming back from
2-0 down to level the scores before losing to an injury time penalty.
Manchester City's Mario Balotelli could quit English football over the perceived unfair treatment
he has been receiving, his agent has claimed.
The striker has been charged with violent conduct by the FA, which will carry a four match ban if
he and City don't contest the charge.
The charge relates to an incident in Sunday's match against Spurs, in which he appeared to stamp on
Tottenham midfielder Scott Parker.
Match report Video
At half-time yesterday Arsenal left the pitch to a chorus of boos. 2-0 down against Aston Villa,
it looked as if we were heading for a fourth January defeat. We hadn't played particularly badly,
to be fair, but got caught out twice in ways we really shouldn't have.
Saturday 15th October 2011.
Celtic, fresh from a defeat at Tynecastle, are 3-0 down at half time to Kilmarnock.
Winning the title looks a long way off, Neil Lennon's managerial coat seems to hang on an ever
shooglier peg.
They came back to draw 3-3, three goals in a 10 minute burst from Anthony Stokes and Charlie
Mulgrew salvaging a point.
They say that lightning doesn't strike twice but both Equatorial Guinea and
Gabon scored late goals in their matches to make the last eight of the African Cup
of Nations.. Then again many experts said that Equatorial Guinea and Gabon shouldn't be hosting the
African Cup of Nations as neither country has any real football pedigree.
Ahead of this weekend's FA Cup game against Liverpool, Andy Cole has reflected on his time
playing for United at Anfield.
Cole scored at Anfield in our 3-1 win in the 1996-1997 season, scored two there the following
season, and again in 1999.
"When I was in the team I used to love playing at Anfield," he told the official
site.
Real Madrid came back from a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 with Barcelona, but that was not
enough as Barcelona progressed to the Copa del Rey semi-finals 4-3 on aggregate.
Real Madrid will rue their missed chances, especially in the first twenty minutes when they had
more than enough chances to win this match.

There were amazing scenes in Spain last night, where third tier part-timers CD Mirandés beat La
Liga side Espanyol 2-1 in injury time at the tiny, 6,000-capacity Anduva Stadium to secure
themselves a 4-4 aggregate (away goals) win and a berth in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey in
the process.
A trip to Wembley and Liverpool's first cup final in nearly five years are on the line on
Wednesday, with Manchester City heading to Anfield for the second leg of the League Cup semi-final.
Liverpool have a 1-0 advantage from the first leg after a Steven Gerrard penalty capped a dominant
opening spell for Kenny Dalglish's squad, but there's little illusion that they'll be able to coast
into the final, with City more than capable of turning the tie over.

1. Mario Balotelli should not have been on the pitch to score the winner against Spurs. He should
have been answering questions at the local nick after his stamp on Scott Parker. 2. Everyone said
Spurs would miss Emmanuel Adebayor's height, but they can hardly have envisaged Jermain Defoe's
little legs unable to stretch far [.
1. After the man that should have been sent off for a nasty stamp won and scored a match winning
penalty in injury time for Manchester City, you had to wonder whether today was going to be our
day. There had been plenty of talk of "revenge" from Arsenal players ahead of kick-off, in
reference to the 8-2 battering we dished out at Old Trafford, so we knew they would be up for this
game even more than usual.

Hotspur in the English Premier League on Sunday. The victory secures top spot in...
In the big two Sunday games in the Premier League, both Manchester City and Manchester United
dealt big blows to North London rivals Spurs and Arsenal.
In the first game, Man City won a thrilling controversial 3-2 match thanks to Mario Balotelli's
injury-time penalty.
The controversy is whether Balotelli should have been on the field to score the penalty as he
appeared to stamp on Scott Parker's head.

Manchester City maintain their lead at the top of table and also widen their gap with third
place team, Tottenham Hotspurs after Roberto Mancini's team edged passed Harry Redknapp's boys this
Sunday.
Controversial Italian striker, Mario Balotelli arrived as City's savior in the match after
scoring the winning goal deep in injury time.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyGKr2S3J4k&feature=player_detailpage You simply can't keep that man
out of the news. And whilst Balotelli's principal effect in Manchester City's game against Spurs
was to gain and score the injury time winner from the penalty spot, Super Mario gained some of the
controversy that seems to follow him around.

Roberto Mancini seems to be faltering under some of the questioning from the media recently,
seemingly letting them get under his skin as the season starts to hot up. His side lost 1-0 at home
to Liverpool in the first leg of the League Cup semi final, with a Gerrard goal the difference, and
apparently the 2 came to clashes in the tunnel after the game over a bad tackle by Glen
Johnson.
Newcastle won this game this afternoon in injury time, with the winner coming from Jonas
Gutierrez as Newcastle fought their way back from being 1-0 down at the break. But it was the
great Ben Arfa who Newcastle have to thank as he scored a wonderful goal just 20 minutes from
time to equalize the scores, after [.

After last night's hectic London Derby ended with honours even, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp
reflected on the game and felt that a draw was probably the right result.
After Daniel Sturridge cancelled out Emmanuel Adebayor's opener, both sides had great chances to
win the match with Ade going so close in second half injury time.
There was a match the other day. After the first twenty minutes it mostly wasn't a very
interesting match. Unless perhaps you're the sort who finds joy in dull performances and endless
reminders that it isn't 2009 any more and that this Liverpool side isn't big on pulling out points
that seemed long gone when injury time started.
Oliver Holt's Top 10 most interesting people of 2011 part 1, starring Wilshere, Beckham
and Dyer
We asked our Chief Sports Writer Oliver Holt to name the 10 most fascinating people he'd met in
2011. The resulting piece was so good that we've decided to split it into two separate
instalments.
Trevor James, an assistant coach for the Portland Timbers during the 2011 season has officially
departed from the team's technical staff today. Those of you who were with us during this past
pre-season will remember that he had spent the previous 5 years as an assistant coach and director
with the LA Galaxy, which means he brought a lot of experience from one of MLS's best teams to the
Timbers, unfortunately for us.
Tom Goom is a physiotherapist and Gooner. He loves Arsenal, cheese and shooting thirty yards
over the bar. He hate grass munching, racist centre halves, and former Manchester United strikers
who look like Black Beauty's ugly diving younger brother.

Editor's note: At the end of the 2010 season, we posted a series of season reviews of every
Philadelphia Union player. Over the next several weeks PSP continues with a review of the 2011
season.
What a roller-coaster ride 2011 was for Philadelphia's favorite Frenchman.
Disappointing midweek arrived for English teams in their Europa League campaign, Fulham have to
forget their European ambition as they're journey ended on Wednesday after only picking up a point
against Odense BK.
Meanwhile, Stoke City suffered their first defeat in the competition but still secure their
passage into the next round although that loss relegated the Potters into runners up position
behind Besiktas.
Yes the Clasico was not the only game played in La Liga this weekend. Here is a review of the

Third placed Valencia looked to have the points wrapped up at Betis on Saturday, before two
injury time goals from Ruben Castro turned the result around to give the Seville side their first
win in 11 games, winning 2-1.

Manchester United and Manchester City might be competing atop the Premier League standings, but
neither of them will be taking part in the UEFA Champions League group stage. Instead, it's off to
the Europa League.
Manchester United became the first finalist to be knocked out in the group stage the following
year after being shocked by FC Basel in Switzerland, 2-1, and relegated to the second tier
competition with a third-place group finish.
Marseille secured their passage into the Champions League last 16 after a 3-2 win over Borussia
Dortmund with Mathieu Valbuena grabbing an amazing injury-time winner This is what the UEFA
Champions League is all about! Knock-out football, pressure, drama and great goals to boot.

On Saturday lunchtime, Mike Dean shamelessly distorted the hyperreality in Chelsea's aided 3-0
victory at Newcastle - an outcome only a surprise to those utterly outside the loop.
Last night Mr Dean was in Dortmund in a heavily and obviously rigged Champions League match against
Marseille.
On the final rounds of matches in UEFA and FIFA competitions when qualification is dependent on the
outcome of two separate matches, the authorities insist on coincident kick off times to ensure no
team(s) possesses an advantage in time.

Nepal saw off Bangladesh (the highest-ranked team in the tournament) 1-0 in the South Asian
Football Federation Cup in the final minute of injury time tagged onto the end of their Group B
game, with a 45-ish-yard free-kick from captain Sagar Thapa doing the business as the last grains
of sand ran through the egg-timer of destiny.
