For at least two of South Korea's four representatives in the Asian Champions League, this week is
make or break time. The quartet stands at the halfway point of the group stage with three games
gone and three to go. With the top two in each group of four progressing to the second round, now
is the time to start picking up points.
I tend to keep this blog focused mainly on DC United, because there are hundreds of other blogs
you can visit for USMNT match reactions, but with one of the greatest US Soccer upsets of all time
on Wednesday, and with the biggest US Soccer match of all time coming up on Sunday, I just
can't help myself.
A home game against IFK Göteborg represents one of the most anticipated and prestigious matches of
the year. Even on a bad year this game is at the very least a good old-fashioned hate match. This
year, both teams are involved in the very top contention of Allsvenskan and 2009 must be considered
an extremely good year for AIK to beat the Geat.
The phrase which was needed earlier to explain the result was 'in the greater scheme of
things'.
Now it will be used. (Ironically, I'm not taking the piss).
The point is (geddit?), that whilst it was two points dropped rather than one gained, in the
greater scheme of things its completely irrelevant.
This morning, EPLTalk writes about "How American Soccer Fans Are Smarter Than Average

I don't know how soccer fans stack up compared to "average Americans," but I do think that
following soccer can make you smarter. It's not that you have to be smart in order to follow
soccer, it's that through the act(s) of being a soccer fan, you learn a lot especially as it
relates to geography and foreign culture.
Today's the day that the Philadelphia Eagles take their next step toward their first Superbowl win!
