Dirty Tackle 18 November @ 03:31 AM EST
Another day, another head shot. This really is the final straw for American girls soccer,
though. I mean, the hair pulling and dirty tackles are one thing, but to take aim and obliterate an
opponent's face like this on a free kick is just way over the line. And totally hilarious.
After the jump, a special bonus DTotD.

The National Indoor Soccer League is now the Major Indoor Soccer League.
Sound familiar? It should.
This will be - if you're multi-point scoring at home - the third outfit to call itself the MISL.
The most recent two have lineage that gets intertwined, but it's basically MISL 3.0. I'd question
the wisdom of announcing the change 10 days before the season opens, but, whatever.

After serving three years as President and CEO of WPS' Chicago Red Stars, one of the country's
newest pro soccer franchises, today I accepted the same position with the oldest professional
soccer team in the United States, the National Indoor Soccer League's Milwaukee Wave.
I'd like to share my thought process that went into the decision to take the new position and
offer a look at the behind the scenes issues and dynamics that led to this decision, one made in
the context of considering where to go next in American soccer.

I'm a bit overwhelmed with the soccer available this weekend, and excited.
The only live soccer I'll be seeing was this morning, when the West End Terrorists (Jacob's team,
though they now only use their name privately and on the team sheet are just, 'West End') won their
second indoor game 8:2, against the Feral Rats.

EPL Talk 06 October @ 08:48 PM EST
Transiting through London Heathrow this morning, on a journey from Florida to India, all the
talk among football supporters (who I sought out in the airports and on the plane because they
stand out in their club kits or England shirts) was not about any title contender but about
Portsmouth.

they left was significant.

As we head into Fall and the end-of-season outdoor tournaments, it is time to start thinking about
indoor soccer as a means to keep your team in shape during the off-season. However, indoor soccer
is a much different game than the outdoor one, so as a coach you need to be prepared to make some
changes in your practice routine and field set-up.

September 14, 1979 - The Tampa Bay Rowdies honor retiring star midfielder Rodney Marsh [above with
the ball]with a testimonial match at Tampa Stadium. A crowd of 20,655 turned out at Tampa Stadium
on a Friday night to get their last look at the Rowdies' star on the pitch.
Marsh scored the first two goals to help the Rowdies win 3-0 against their arch rivals, the Ft

Amos Magee
I've known Portland Timbers Director of Soccer Development and Assistant Coach Amos Magee for
15 years. He played for me both with the A-League Minnesota Thunder and several times as a call
up with the Chicago Fire. Amos was one of the most tenacious and savvy players I've ever
known.

extremely grateful for [.

I've lost track of the days. I'm in a Diet Coke-induced haze that's exacerbated by my
unwillingness to venture outside when it's 107 degrees*. My daughter sometimes tells me, "You drink
too much Diet Coke." I tell my daughter, "Yes, but Daddy doesn't drink alcohol, Daddy doesn't
smoke, Daddy doesn't do drugs, Daddy doesn't hit women, and Daddy doesn't have a 20-year-old Dave &
Busters waitress for a mistress who will put four bullets in him while he's snoozing on the sofa,
either, so back off.

If approved, financed and built it will be called South Coast Soccer City.
I'm told it will look very similar to the picture that accompanies the story.
The usual crew of anonymous bigots has hijacked the comment section at the bottom of the story,
so allow me to clarify one thing: no taxpayer money is involved.

So...anything happen while I was gone?
No, seriously. They just got word of V-J Day where I was for the past week.
So let's catch up:
- The US made an amazing run in the Confederations Cup. Yes, I know, they got into the semis on a
technicality, but they beat Spain and had Brazil (BRAZIL) on the ropes.

In an effort to bring you all things soccer related, I stumbled upon two unique and inspiring clubs
here in the Bay area. Tampa Bay Thunder and the Tampa Bay Crossfire both compete in the United
States Power Soccer Association.
There is also a USPSA National Team that competes in the power soccer World Cup, the inaugural one
being held in 2007 in Japan, which get this, the USA won!

As you know, I've always been a soccer gear junkie.
When I was a kid, my dad had these awesome Diadora indoors that I wore as often as I could get
away. When they got in pretty bad shape, I claimed them for my own and wore them into the
ground.
That said I was glad to see Diadora Soccer is getting back into the mainstream.

I've been derelict in blogging of late. Between podcasting, Twittering, Facebooking, working,

But these things caught my eye on this Monday:

Most sporting good stores or soccer specific stores offer balls made by different companies. The
balls can differ in materials, method of construction, and overall strength. Some balls may be
better suited to practice than games, some balls are ideal for indoor soccer, and there are
specialty or ‘mini' balls as well that can also be helpful in practice.

With J Hutcherson -- There's something that tends to get missed by most people who write off indoor
soccer as a game for screaming kids who aren't paying that much attention. Regardless of whatever
singalong is happening in the stands, the game on the field is usually brutal. Guys throwing
themselves around and suffering the indignities of turf burn for the delight of an audience that
might not even be facing the right direction.

From time to time, I'll review books that strike my fancy. The first one would have been a
must-have for my library even if a friend hadn't written it. Hot Winter Nights: A

Rich Paschette and it's a treasure trove for indoor soccer aficionados and

Often I'm listening people on the field complaining: Stop the clock!Slide!He/She has not number!and
a long list of etc., etc. They are players, parents, coaches, and sometime even refs. that play in
several facilities, and are forgetting a simple thing: House Rules. The basic rules about soccer
are applied to indoor soccer, and a foul is a foul every where, the same a pushing, tackling, etc.
