The Chicago Fire are now a good two weeks into their first phase of preseason camp and have been making all of the necessary adjustments as the start of the new 2012 campaign nears. Part of the preseason activity, though, has included shooting down rumors of a superstar Designated Player acquisition.

Latest crowd figures from the Major Indoor Soccer League, where Rochester has taken over the lead from Baltimore. The Blast has led its league in average attendance in each of the last seven years.

The league is projecting to finish at slightly under last year's average of 4,007 per game.

Apparently I'm "soccer historian," which I'll take. Though there are others (like Colin Jose, Dave Litterer, Roger Allaway and Steve Holroyd).

Anyway, Milwaukee Wave head coach Keith Tozer won his 700th indoor game Sunday as the Wave beat Rochester 26-10.

You may member an indoor soccer team called the Phoenix Monsoon (the one that listed me as its play-by-play announcer despite not actually, you know, consummating a deal with me). This was its maiden season in the PASL, and they had big plans for it. Well, the original owner was out before Christmas and the new owners have changed the name of the team to the Arizona Storm.

Back after a hiatus, I present you the latest attendance figures from the Major Indoor Soccer League. As you may or may not know, United Soccer Leagues took over the MISL this season and brought it under their umbrella along with its nascent I-League. The result is a seven-team league that's averaging right about what the old one was through the same number of games a year ago.

It has been packed to the brim with quality for five years, which is precisely why a "Very Best of Pitch Invasion" book was compiled by Mr. Dunmore. As an Englishman from Brighton who moved to Chicago to get his PhD at the University of Chicago, Tom has since taken to MLS and even became the chairman of Section 8, the supporters group of the Chicago Fire.

As we find ourselves fully entrenched in the holiday season, we can't forget the fans of the MISL and what they have on their wish list for their favorite team. We've complied a list of what the fans in each market likely are asking for from their teams as we are now 1/3 of the way through the season.

The newest professional soccer team in Virginia, SharX struggling for first win
Park City, Kansas – The Norfolk SharX went up 4-0 on the Wichita Wings early in the game Saturday night, on back to back goals from Cecil Lewis assisted by Gersen Dos Santos and Matt Clare's unassisted strike, and had a 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Kansas Magic bolstered their roster this week by adding 2 players familiar to followers of college and indoor soccer in the Kansas City area. Both locals participated in the Missouri Comets' invitational tryouts prior to the 2010/2011 season.
Midfielder/Forward James Katajwa played at Park University (MO) and was named to the 2007/2008 PASL All-Star team during his 3 years with the Kansas City Kings.

The Kansas City Wizards were a founding member of Major League Soccer (MLS) and won the 2000 MLS Cup. Now known as Sporting Kansas City, the team has advanced to the 2011 MLS playoffs.

Like parents sitting around a table looking at pictures of their young children Missouri Comets fans are looking at their team and saying, "Boy, what a difference a year makes." A year ago today ended the five plus years that indoor soccer fans in the Kansas City area had endured without an MISL franchise as the Comets were rechristened before a packed house at the Independence Events Center.

(Wichita, KS) The MISL season opener matched up two teams with a combined one year of operations between them. You would never know it this old rivalry was renewed with a passion. Brazilian Midfielder Geison proved to be the star of the game as he scored his 5th goal at the 4:29 mark of overtime to give the Comets a 16-14 victory.

And when I say "New York", I mean New York State. And when I say "returns" I mean playing indoor soccer upstate. Which isn't totally bad because A) there is a good beer garden in Albany and B) he's not "upstate" which in NYC hood parlance means "he's in prison."

My pick for the play of the week is not a goal, it is for Sevilla goal keeper Javi Varas great save vs. Lionel Messi in the last minute of a 0-0 tie. The save was excellent in technical measures. But, what made me pick it is the tremendous pressure as it was 0-0 and in Camp Nou .... and it was against Lionel Messi.

Legendary Milwaukee Wave goalkeeper Victor Nogueira is one of the 12 charter inductees to the Indoor Soccer Hall of Fame, the organization announced today.

Nogueira won seven league championships, four MVP awards and was named Goalkeeper of the Year 12 times in his impressive 19-year indoor career, which spanned parts of three decades.

I do not see the Blast blowing out teams. Since the Blast will have a lot of new players to get used to playing with their veterans I would expect that they will loose steam early on with five back-to-back games and two games with only one day off on the schedule.

Today the MISL has released an updated 2011-2012 schedule, making the rumors official regarding the short lived Chicago Kick franchise.
Chicago are out due to an inability of the "new" team to secure a suitable venue in time for the season. Although the league is still leaving open the possibility of the Kick to try to join the fold again next year stating they are set to join for 2012-13, subject to fulfillment of league requirements.
