2009 MN State HS Soccer Boys 2A Semifinal – Wayzata Does it Again

Inside Minnesota Soccer | Inside Minnesota Soccer - Uniting Soccer Fans in the S 02 November @ 10:43 PM EST

Wayzata 2-1 Woodbury

The Wayzata Trojans are now nine straight games undefeated and against some pretty good opponents. Not bad for a team with a 12-6-4 record. Meaning almost all their wins have come at the most important time, the end of the season.

The Trojans struck first 15 minutes into the second half.

Final: Chicago Fire at Galaxy

100 Percent Soccer 03 October @ 12:16 AM EST

Galaxy 1 Chicago Fire 0

Frantic ending to this one that began about five minutes from the end of regulation time.

First we had a rare indirect free kick inside the Galaxy penalty box after the referee ruled the Galaxy's Chris Birchall had deliberately made a back pass to Donovan Ricketts that the goalkeeper picked up (it appeared it bounced off Birchall's shin accidentally, but no matter).

Wolves 0-2 West Ham: The Minute-by-Minute Match Commentary

The Flat Back Four 21 August @ 12:39 PM EST
As I had said, I wanted to provide the blow-by-blow account of the Hammers' first Premiership match of the season. It took me a while to locate the right post for this but here it is.

Teams:

Wolverhampton: Hennessey, Foley (Vokes 75), Mancienne (Stearman 66), Craddock, Stephen Ward, Halford, Henry, Milijas (Edwards 80), Jarvis, Keogh, Ebanks-Blake.

Celtic 0 - Arsenal 2 Halfway to CL Group Stage

Wicked Deflection 19 August @ 01:47 AM EST
It promised to be an intense match and it certainly was. Celtic came out swinging; Arsenal were denied space and time on the ball but just as Arsene has said, this group of players can handle the raucous atmosphere and they applied their skills and determination to good result.
Neither of the goals were pretty but I'll take both of them because it makes the job so much easier in the second leg at home. Click to continue reading...

The Laws of Soccer 101: Offsides

Soccer Tickets Online 10 August @ 07:00 AM EST

The 11th Law of the Game deals with the "offside position", which is nowhere nearly as dirty as it sounds when it is put it in quotation marks like that. Offsides is a hotly debated rule of soccer, and one many lovers of the attack typically detest.

Now, being in an "offside position" (which occurs when a player is nearer to his opponent's goal line than both the ball and the second to last opponent) is not technicall illegal per se.

Marshall’s free kick provides just enough punch for Columbus

Colorado Soccer Now | News and commentary about soccer in Colorado 02 August @ 01:50 AM EST

Rapids striker Omar Cummings kept Columbus defender Chad Marshall, right, off balance throughout Saturday's game — but couldn't find a goal for Colorado. (photo by Jonathan Ingraham/ColoradoSoccerNow.com)

Call it yellow-and-black magic.

Panama had a case

Soccer Confidential 20 July @ 07:38 AM EST
It seemed Panama coach Gary Stempel and the Canalero players were protesting too much after falling, 2-1, to the U.S. in the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup Saturday.
But they might have been justified in disputing Mexican referee Benito Archundia's awarding of a penalty kick to the U.S. late during extra time in the match in Philadelphia. Click to continue reading...

FIFA amends the offside law..

Soccerblog 16 July @ 10:11 AM EST

Nistelrooy caused a lot of heartburn to the Italian team when he scored what looked to be a clearly offside goal against them in Euro 2008.There was however an injured Italian player lying behind the line when the goal was scored.Fierce controversy then followed over whether Nistelrooy was onside because of this player or not.

Jair Marrufo Makes His Own Rules

MLS Daily 22 June @ 11:52 AM EST
Jair Marrufo is at it again.
For those who don't recognize the name or the face, Marrufo is an MLS official who found himself at the center of controversy earlier this season. He reportedly accepted Chicago Fire star Cuauhtemoc Blanco's jersey as a post-game gift in a match that coincidentally featured a controversial red card on a player who had fouled Blanco. Hold the Wall! Or Not?

Jared Montz’s Weblog 06 May @ 08:16 AM EST

As a Coach you would want your players to stand tall and strong in a wall. With no fear in their eyes, just total concentration that if the ball comes at that them they will take one for the team!

All that sounds great in theory until your team has to set up a wall 3 yards from the goal line!
