The Polish Ekstraklasa Is Under Way. Who's To Watch?

Euro 2008 on World Cup Blog 04 August @ 08:12 AM EST

The good old Ekstraklasa season started last weekend. It's peculiar that the fans usually complain about the level of play but still can't wait for the inauguration of the new season. To be honest, it's the same about me. It really hurts to watch the Ekstraklasa just after a game of Primera Division or Premier League.

My First Book

Booked for Dissent 24 March @ 10:34 AM EST

As some of you know, I was holed up in my apartment this winter for a few weeks working on a book. I was referencing it on Twitter and Facebook, but kept it off the blog except for an allusion to "an exciting work opportunity" shortly after I began work on it.

Well, I'm proud to announce that it will soon be out, and is available for pre-order from Whitman Books.

Beginning of the End

JordanCornblog 31 January @ 07:24 AM EST
Sounds ominous, I now ... but I'm just talking about the beginning of the end of the month, here.  It's been a frozen, snowy January - in fact I can't remember the last time I saw bare ground here in NH.  Not that I'm complaining.  So long as it's mostly snow (as opposed to ice) [...] Click to continue reading...

Feingold Amendment and Other Fine Tidbits on a Fine Monday Morning

JordanCornblog 26 January @ 09:05 AM EST
Russ Feingold is going to be introducing a proposed amendment to the US Constitution that will require special elections to fill vacated Senate seats.  Some states already do this by State law - and Feingold's amendment would require all to do so.  He states: "The controversies surrounding some of the recent gubernatorial appointments to vacant Senate [. Music For Dr. King

Booked for Dissent 19 January @ 12:21 PM EST

Shed A Little Light by James Taylor. The harmonies in the intro still give me chills.

Freedom Highway by The Staple Singers, Dr. King's favorite group. I was originally looking for Long Walk To D.C., but came across this.

Here's some more Staple Singers, a killer version of Buffalo Springfield's For What It's Worth.

“Lead Us, Pete”

Booked for Dissent 18 January @ 08:04 PM EST

And he did. Again.

Watching Pete Seeger, who turns 90 in May, I had to wonder if, as he stared out over the huge crowd, he was thinking about everything he went through the blacklisting, the civil rights and anti-war movements, the years in the wilderness and realizing it was all worth it to be alive at this very moment.

Obama, US Soccer Awards … Snowy Saturday Stuff

JordanCornblog 20 December @ 08:05 AM EST
First off - thanks to Alice and Stephen for the compelling discussion of Obama's choice of Rick Warren for his inauguration.  Time will tell, I suppose, whether Obama is backing away from promises or working toward an inclusiveness that is, at the moment, feeling disheartening and frightening.  After the hope-to-disappointment trajectory of the Clinton years, [.
