Surely a good defence doesn't turn bad overnight and therefore a move for new additions at the
back is a tad of a knee-jerk reaction?

Arsène Wenger will protect Arsenal's title challenge against further injury by air-lifting
Herita Ilunga from West Ham and then heading over to Real Madrid to evacuate none other than Martin
Keown's old mucker, Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Liverpool are planning a £15m double swoop for West Ham pair Matt Upson and Herita Ilunga. Kop boss Rafa Benitez is already eyeing a £12m move for Hammers striker Carlton Cole, 26. But the Londoners are holding out for around £20m for the England star which is likely to stretch
the Reds' budget too far. Click to continue reading...
West Ham finally got their second win of the season with a last minute Zavon Hines' equaliser. It
was a match that Villa lost rather than West Ham winning it. Nevertheless, the spirit and
determination of Zola's men cannot be faulted and definitely this must spur the Hammers to climb up
the Premiership table. Click to continue reading...
Jonathan Spector started the game on the bench for West Ham United, but was on the field within
eight minutes as they beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Upton Park. Spector subbed on for injured defender
Herita Ilunga, with West Ham saving the offense for late in both halves. Mark Noble put them up
from the penalty spot in first-half stoppage time, beating Brad Friedel. Click to continue reading...
If the Hammers think that coming back to draw with Arsenal represent the proverbial "turn the
corner" then the good work must be continued with another fine display against Sunderland. Playing
at the Stadium of Light is not an easy task as the Black Cats have very passionate fans which can
prove to be the 12th man for the home side. Click to continue reading...
It's been seven matches since West Ham last tasted the joy of victory. Struggling from defensive
lapses, visibly lacking goalscoring power and down on luck, West Ham faces a difficult London derby
against "le magnifique" Arsenal. To hope for victory would be bordering on impossible but there is
reason to be bullish. Click to continue reading...
After the away defeat against Manchester City, Zola had stated that the team including himself will
have to bring the thunder back. This basically means that the players must show desire, motivation
and fighting spirit if West Ham are to start winning again. If the Manchester City loss can be considered an "acceptable defeat", then this weekend's match
against Fulham is rightly labelled as "the Cup final". Click to continue reading...

Liverpool travel to Upton Park today to face a Hammers side that has 4 points from 4 games,
losing away to Wigan their last time out. Last time the Reds visited the Boleyn Ground they cruised
to a 3-0 win, with Gerrard netting twice and Ryan Babel finishing the scoring off late.
This time out could be different Liverpool are a club desperately in need of finding consistent
form, and the performance against Debrecen on Wednesday was less than encouraging.
West Ham's new Mexico striker Guillermo Franco only signed on Thursday and is unlikely

As I had said, I wanted to provide the blow-by-blow account of the Hammers' first Premiership match
of the season. It took me a while to locate the right post for this but here it is.
Your first look at the rumour, innuendo, injuries and team news ahead of tomorrow's pre-match press
conferences. Zola closes on Chamakh
Meanwhile, left-back Herita Ilunga's facial injury means he is rated as doubtful to
face Tottenham on Sunday in the Barclays Premier League clash at Upton Park.
What to say about West Ham? They are the very definition of a midtable club. Ambitious to a
point, but hampered by history and finance. They have a young, exciting squad and a manager in
Zola who will look to utilize that vibrancy. They have a solid defence with depth at center back
and the under-rated Robert Green between the sticks. Click to continue reading...
Gianfranco Zola declared himself pleased with the side's 2-1 friendly win over Grays Athletic this
afternoon. In the absence of established first-teamers Robert Green, Matthew Upson, James Tomkins,
Mark Noble, Valon Behrami, Luis Boa Morte, Scott Parker, Carlton Cole and Dean Ashton, academy
products Zavon Hines and Cristian Montano scored the goals in a game that also saw the return to
action of Danny Gabbidon. Click to continue reading...
As we near the end of what has been and still is an exciting season in the EPL, the various
gongs and awards are being given out. As usual, they create plenty of controversy, particularly in
the case of Ryan Giggs, who was named Footballer of the Year despite only starting 12 league games
this season.
