Barcelona's Copa del Rey semi-finals win against Real Madrid has been tempered by a growing
injury list that will make their clash against Villarreal on Saturday harder.
Andres Iniesta and Alexis Sanchez both limped off in last night's 2-2 draw, which secured a 4-3
aggregate win.
That means Barca will head to El Madrigal missing six players in total, as David Villa, Ibrahim
Afellay and Andreu Fontas are already injured, while Seydou Keita is at the African Nations
Cup.
Big news today from the defending Spanish and European champions that Andres Iniesta will miss
the huge champions league tie with AC Milan on Wednesday with a thigh injury.
A statement on the club's website confirmed that the midfielder will not travel to Italy as "a
precaution", joining the suspended Dani Alves and injured duo Adriano and Ibrahim Afellay on the
sidelines.
We don't like to talk about transfer rumours. We especially don't like to talk about transfer
rumours between windows. Mostly because none of the information floating around is true, accurate,
or otherwise factual. And mostly because it's all crap that's been rehashed using stuff that was
floating around six months ago that even back then wasn't true, accurate, or otherwise factual.

Liverpool's director of football is eyeing up a late move for Barcelona winger Ibrahim Afellay as
the Merseyside club looks to continue their summer spending. The attacker has barely featured for
the Catalan side since his move to the Nou Camp in January and the signing of Chilean Alexis
Sanchez will push the former PSV Eindhoven man further down the pecking order and may convince the
Dutch international to consider pastures new.

On Monday FC Barcelona technical secretary Andoni Zubizarreta addressed rumors that midfielder
Ibrahim Afellay would leave the club following the signing of Cesc Fabregas. One of the clubs
rumored to be interested in signing the 25 year old is Italian side Juventus.

While the Ibrahim Afellay stories start to gather pace, Spurs are rumoured to be heading for
Spain as part of a double swoop with Barcelona's Afellay and Sevilla's Alvaro Negredo firmly on
their radar.
The rumours seem to have started after Real Madrid stated that they wouldn't be using a buy back
clause to capture Negredo, who left them in 2007 to head first to Almeira and then on to
Seville.
It's rare to see a new name linked with a move to Spurs these days, but the rumours this week
have a certain Dutch flavour to them. While Spurs may have been connected with Arjen Robben in the
past, his name hadn't cropped up for a while until the weekend, when several stories appeared.
The suggestion was that Rafael van der Vaart may have some influence over his countryman but as
soon as the rumours appeared, it seemed that Bayern Munich were quick to deny them.

He notched his first after four minutes and his second on 77 as Real thumped their

His double meant he moved two clear of the previous mark, which he jointly held with Real's Hugo

I've been mulling over ideas for a piece on this run of clásicos since just before the Copa del

Madrid this close together is affecting my mind in extreme ways.
Lionel Messi, Barcelona
From Wednesday's win against Real Madrid
From the Guardian's post-game report, The Key Clashes:Pepe and Diarra v Messi
Mourinho had asked the energetic Pepe and Lassana Diarra to loiter and snap at Lionel Messi
whenever the Argentinian was on the ball. That served to clog up the middle, draining the contest
of rhythm and sapping the visitors' impetus, with the Real pair constantly pressurising the ball
whenever it fell within his zone of influence.
Paul Kennedy of Soccer America reports on the Barcelona 2-0 victory over Real Madrid in the UEFA

For the first 75 minutes, the Real Madrid-Barcelona UEFA Champions League game, the third of four

getting on with the game.
Both Barcelona and Real Madrid will have to do some lineup shuffling ahead of today's UEFA
Champions League semifinal first leg (2:45 p.m., FX) at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
Barcelona, which received word on Tuesday that Carles Puyol would be available, will be without
midfield maestro Andres Iniesta, who has a calf strain.

Barcelona are through to the Champions League semi-finals for the fourth successive season after
a 1-0 victory rounded off a 6-1 aggregate triumph.
Shakhtar played valiantly and created a couple of excellent early chances. However, as in the
first leg poor finishing was their Achilles heel and once the Spanish visitors had weathered that
early storm, Lionel Messi's effortless strike just before half-time sent the visitors through to
the last four.
