play-off positions. MK Dons sit one place above Stevenage going into the game, although the Dons
are 5 points clear with the bonus of a game in hand.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard put more than two months of frustration behind him to score on his
first start since October as his side beat Oldham 5-1 in the third round of the FA Cup.
After three substitute appearances following recovery from an ankle infection the 31-year-old
finally reclaimed his place in the team and expertly dispatched the penalty which put his side into
a lead they did not surrender despite a valiant effort from their League One opponents.
You've got to feel for Andy Rhodes. Most fathers, having just witnessed their son score four times
to single-handedly salvage a point from a pulsating and fiercely contested derby match in front of
more than 28,000 spectators, would be bursting at the seams with pride. But not Andy, who, as
Sheffield Wednesday's goalkeeping coach, had just seen his charge Stephen Bywater beaten four
times, his own flesh and blood Jordan wresting two points from the Owls' grasp seven minutes into
stoppage time.

Norwich and Republic of Ireland U21 winger Anthony Pilkington has been linked with a shock move to
Liverpool.
According to reports, Kenny Dalglish is monitoring him closely following some impressive displays
for newly promoted Norwich this season thus far. The 23 year old has been tipped with being an
outside inclusion for Giovanni Trappatoni's Euro 2012 squad despite not having played for Ireland.
Welcome back Real Football. We missed you.
Sometimes the international break helps. And on occasion it can disrupt a team's momentum. Many
Gunners have only played 90 minutes during the fortnight and, arguably, at an intensity level
fairly below the Premiership level. Ideally, this should help Arsenal as the players will not 'lack
sharpness'.

Rochdale have completed the signing of striker Nathan Eccleston on a month's loan from Premier
League club Liverpool.
The 20-year-old will go straight into Steve Eyre's squad for the weekend clash at Exeter.
Eyre told the club's official website: "I'm very grateful to Liverpool for their co-operation.
League 1's top-eight looks, as things stand, much like the masses predicted back in August, with
the monied Charlton, Huddersfield, Franchise, Preston and Sheffields United and Wednesday all
present and correct. Yet, defying convention and sticking it to Big Boyz are two of the division's
less chic teams, Notts County and Brentford.
Is this what Chris Waddle did? Nope, there was no sand, binge drinking and sex not on the evidence

regulations to have fans [.
Arsenal assistant coach Pat Rice believes Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is capable of breaking into
the England team this season after the former Southampton youngster impressed on his Champions
League debut against Olympiakos last night.
Oxlade-Chamberlain completed his switch from the Championship side to Arsenal this summer and
more than held his own against the Greek Champions, finding the net to become the youngest ever
Englishman to score in Europen football's leading club competition.

I don't understand why so few Premier League clubs pay any attention to the Carling Cup as it is
their only chance to win a trophy.
The Premier League will be decided between six sides. In all liklihood, those six teams will
also win the FA Cup. That means that the only option for a team to win a trophy is the Carling
Cup.

The Scot will take on Sir Alex Ferguson using the same principles that made his 1980s team such

Admittedly I was a bit slow to publish this...so with the added benefit of one performance,
here's the League Two preview!
Who's Looking Good?
Crawley Town: Most bookies favourites, Crawley have the biggest budget in the
league, momentum to die for, and probably the deadliest striker in the division in Matt Tubbs.
Last season, Brighton cantered to the title, with Southampton and Huddersfield fighting
neck-and-neck for most of the campaign before the Saints eventually prevailed and were joined in
the Championship by play-off winners Peterborough. But who will be up there or thereabouts this
year?

please be upstanding for theseventytwo.
The third of our posts supplementing our season preview bonanza in NPowersville centres upon
League 1 and how the division rivals the white stuff for deepness, crispness and even-ness. Reading
through the 24 contributions to our spanking pdf (click on the inset below) left me somewhat
bewildered. While other classifications promise some element of predictability due to the influence
of money -
Lee Clark, who is having a successful time managing Hudderfield Town, has talked to the local

It's perhaps unfair to blame all the miseries of one club on one man, and Kris Boyd's improvement
in fortunes on swapping the red of Teesside for Trentside only heaps further ignominy on Project
Strachan; but the disjunct between the reputation of a man with 174 goals plundered north of
Hadrian's Wall and the miserable nature of his performances for Boro was startling.
Like Achilles' ankles or Steffi Graf's backhand, Swansea City's weakness over the past few seasons
of approximate excellence has been all too obvious. Jason Scotland was the key fulcrum for a time,
but the goals for column has rarely been a totalizer at the Liberty. That all ended this Spring
when Brendan Rodgers - he of the Big League contacts - took a drive down Fulham Broadway and came

Hit The North Last weekend EFW made a late decision to hit the north and take in a bit of football
and rugby league action. We saw Peterborough spank Huddersfield at Old Trafford in the League One
play-off final, followed that up with a brief stop over at The Reebok Stadium, Bolton before
rounding off the weekend at Wigan Warriers v Hull Kingston Rovers.
With Paul Scholes retirement we are invited again to confront the nature of footballing
greatness. Over on TiFF someone has made the point that Best and Charlton are legends, not Scholes.
But surely this is incorrect.
Footballing history as we know it is based on 120 or so years of competitive play.

A flurry of late goals from Tommy Rowe, Grant McCann and the ridiculously prolific Craig
Makail-Smith were enough to see Darren Ferguson's Peterborough see off Lee Clarke's Huddersfield
(who came into the game on the back of a 27-league game unbeaten streak) to win the League One
play-off final at Old Trafford this afternoon after a one-year absence, Posh will be playing
Championship football again next season.
Although not all football league clubs are catered for by a thoroughgoing blog to boast of, that's
simply not the case with Sunday's League 1 play off final protagonists - Huddersfield Town are
served by the exemplary This is the Barmy Army and Posh Fenlanders can keep up to date via The

Off to Old Trafford - but will Huddersfield gain promotion?
Now it's not that I have anything against Peterborough – in fact I always enjoy going to their
cosy little London Road ground and standing on one of the few remaining terraces in English
football – but, along with many of the neutrals, I will be firmly backing Huddersfield Town in
the League One play-off final this Sunday.
Really dissappointed with the Europa League final last night...usually they are great games but
last nights final in the ridiculously lob-sided Aviva Stadium (Lansdowne Road for the corporately
challenged amongst us) was a sifled, scrppy stultified affair.
Braga looked more afraid of losing than being desperate to win and Porto seemed to come down to
their level.

Leyton Orient 1 Arsenal 1
Frankly, I think the reaction to this match has been overdone.
We put in a good first-half performance but couldn't quite fashion a good enough opening to score.
Tomas Rosicky put us ahead in the second half with his first goal in a long, long time and Orient
really weren't creating anything.
LEYTON, England Leyton Orient's players will be jetting off to Las Vegas after hitting the FA Cup
jackpot by securing a £1 million replay against Arsenal. Jonathan Tehoue grabbed a dramatic

them a replay against Arsene Wenger's [.
