On Saturday, Arsenal conceded another ridiculous goal. Thankfully, It didn't affect the outcome but brought back painful memories of other howlers in the recent past. Now the easy option is to blame Mertesacker and move on. There is no denying the fact that the German should have shown greater strength and could have passed the ball towards Santos or headed it back to Szczesny if he so intended.

What a weekend of football that was! But before we turn attention to the action this midweek (and beyond), it's time to decide on the worst miss of the weekend.

Here are two contenders...

1. Bobby Zamora v Everton

Not long after this howler the Toffees went up the other end and scored a couple of goals, making the miss all the more painful for Fulham fans, players and one Bobby Zamora in particular.

If players can be banned for bad tackles why aren’t refs banned for bad decisions like Rodwell’s red card?

If players can be banned for bad tackles why aren't refs banned for bad decisions like Rodwell's red card?

As a player, I was a regular customer of FA disciplinary commissions, and I usually came away poorer for the experience. But, finally, I can now speak my mind about referees without dreading another summons landing on the doormat.

Hammer blow, Devastating injury blow, Major blow. Just three ways to cook the same story, namely Vermaelen's latest crock. It's an injury that has rocked us, added to our woes and amounts to nothing less than a KO. Well, so we're told. Maybe it's not that bad though? He's off school for another month, and should be back in six weeks.

What's the collective noun for howlers? In the days before YouTube it is safe to say that the Women's U17 World Cup was not subject to the same level of scrutiny as it is in the digital age we now inhabit. So we can assume that Iceland goalkeeper Arna Lind Kristinsdottir is wishing she lived [...]

Ukraine 1, France 4

Ukraine opened the scoring in the 53rd minute courtesy of an epic howler from France's backup goalkeeper Steve Mandanda. France replied with a very well taken equalizer from Gameiro, and then ran over Ukraine in the last 10 minutes or so after some of France's best players came on as substitutes.

As promised, here are the ratings from yesterday's match against Stoke.

Wojo 5 Not one of his better games. He didn't make any howlers, exactly, but you could argue that he could/should have stopped any of the three goals probably should have come out strong and claimed the ball on the first goal, got a hand to the second goal and maybe could have palmed it high or wide, and maybe could have come out more and made himself bigger on the final goal.

The big news going into the weekend is this morning's Champions League Quarter-Final draw. Manchester United and Chelsea will clash in a repeat of the 2008 final in Moscow that reduced our buddy John Terry to tears in the rain after United won on penalty kicks. The other match-ups are Tottenham and Real Madrid, Barcelona and Shakhtar Donetsk, and Inter Milan and Schalke.

Right, let me get this much straight... Orient were not up to much, they hardly peppered our goalmouth with a plethora of moves and shots at goal.. did they? so all this rubbish I keep reading about how fantastically well they did... is just that.. rubbish.

I absolutely do not begrudge them a replay, it's actually wonderful news for the wider economy in general.

To listen to some people you would think our promising young reserve ‘keeper is David Seaman, Peter Schmeichel, Gordon Banks and Lev Yashin all rolled into one.

He's not.

Right now Wojciech Szczesny is a raw, inexperienced player with bags of promise and the chance of becoming great in the future.
