Most fans outside of Texas would be laughing at the idea of an all-Texas Superbowl, but, after week
one, two of the most impressive teams are Houston and Dallas.
A one-state, all-pride Superbowl doesn't come around often.
It's happened twice before, in 1995, when the Steve Young, Jerry Rice San Francisco 49ers clobbered
the San Diego Chargers, 49-26, and in 1991, when a failed field goal try to end the game gave the
New York Giants the edge over the Buffalo Bills, 20-19.
Nnamdi Asomugha is the most sought after free agent on the open market. He's arguably the best
cornerback in the NFL and is free to sign with any team in the league. Who will Nnamdi Asomugha
sign with? Right now, it looks like Nnamdi Asomugha is going to sign with the Dallas Cowboys.
Early Friday, NFL sources said that the bidding war over Nnamdi Asomugha was between the Cowboys
and the New York Jets.
While this move wasn't unexpected in the least, the Tennessee Titans made it official on Tuesday
by releasing quarterback Vince Young. Once viewed as the future of the franchise, Vince Young has
fallen on tough times on and off the football field.
To replace Vince Young at quarterback, the Titans have signed veteran Matt Hasselbeck.
Marion Barber III was detained at a Beverly Hills hotel earlier today. According to TMZ.com,
Marion Barber III wasn't arrested after he agreed to leave the hotel. Why was the running back for
the Dallas Cowboys in Beverly Hills' SLS Hotel? A good guess would be the 2011 NBA All-Star Game,
which was played on Sunday in Los Angeles.
For the first time in franchise history, the Houston Texans have made it to the NFL Playoffs. On
Saturday January 7, 2012, the Texans hosted their first ever Playoff game at Reliant Stadium, and
prior to that game there was an indication that the Texans' front office had paid attention to the
tifo displays that have occurred down the road at Robertson Stadium, former home of the Houston
Dynamo, because, as evidenced by the above picture, they managed to orchestrate a tifo display
worthy of any major football club in Europe.
Matt Leinart just can't catch a break. After sitting on the bench for two years, the former
Heisman Trophy winner out of USC was finally starting a game in the NFL again. However, in the
first half of the game between the Houston Texans and the Jacksonville Jaguars, Matt Leinart hurt
his shoulder and was ruled out.
HOUSTON Houston Dynamo minority owner Oscar De La Hoya joined city and county officials Saturday at
the groundbreaking for the team's $95 million, soccer-specific stadium. The 22,000-seat venue is
situated near downtown within walking distance of Minute Maid Park, the Toyota Center and the
city's massive convention center.
Andre Johnson, considered by many to be the best wide receiver in the NFL, will have ankle
surgery next week. As you might guess, he'll sit out this weekend's game for the 5-10 Houston
Texans. Johnson originally injured his ankle during Week 2 action and it never quite healed. He
played through it but was seen limping at various times this season.
One of the most shocking NFL-related videos this weekend had nothing to do with the game of
football. Watch the video below to see the Metrodome roof collapsing. Thankfully, the roof
collapsed at five o'clock in the morning and no one was hurt. The roof collapse was due to a build
up of snow that had settled on the top of the structure.
Houston Texans fan Taylor Gahm started a fundraising campaign on IndieGoGo.com on Monday to help
show support for Andre Johnson by having his fans help pay the $25,000 fine levied by the NFL.
Within just a few days, Taylor's project has raised over $2,100. Andre knows about the campaign
and has said all money will go to buy Christmas presents for needy children.
As we head into Week 17 of the 2011 NFL season, let's take a look at the power rankings. While
the top of these NFL power rankings has familiar teams, the bottom is starting to be populated by
underdogs who may be able to make a run at the Super Bowl.
Here are the NFL power rankings heading into Week 17:
Heading into Week 4 of the 2011 NFL season, we are starting to get a good idea of which teams
are the cream of the crop. In these NFL power rankings, we take a look a the top ten teams in the
league. There are a few surprises mixed in with a number of other teams that we knew were going to
be great.
If your fantasy football league plays in Week 17, here are some sleepers that should interest
you. Week 17 is difficult because most NFL teams don't have anything to play for. For that reason,
we see a lot of backups get extended action. That said, you can feel confident starting one of
these fantasy football players.
Injuries have destroyed the Houston Texans. However, the Texans just keep on winning. With Matt
Schaub out for the season with a foot injury and Matt Leinart possibly out for the season with a
shoulder injury, the Texans beat the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday by a final score of 20-13.
Matt Leinart's injury occurred in the second quarter.
Arian Foster likes to have fun on Twitter. That was on full display on Wednesday when the
fantasy football star running back for the Houston Texans posted a hamstring MRI picture on
Twitter. Check out the Arian Foster hamstring MRI photo below to see proof of his wackiness!
After seeing the MRI of Arian Foster's hamstring, fantasy football owners (oh, and fans of the
Texans) are panicking.
The 2011 MLS Cup Final at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California is only days away, and
with the Houston Texans on a NFL bye week, the Dynamo have been feeling the love in their home
city. On Wednesday evening a rally was held in Houston for the Dynamo before their departure to
California.
With the lack of news or even rumors over the Christmas holiday, I was left to find something
interesting to write a few lines about on this cold Monday morning here in the State of Texas.
Yeah, I know there are people buried under snow on the east coast, but this is Texas and I'm sorry,
it's cold here for us.
Still no power, so here is a quick survey of how the local newsapers are covering their team's
win or loss in Sunday's compelling Conference Final matchup. We'll start in Utah, where RSL
continues to enjoy strong local coverage from both the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News. The
Trib sports section included a hard news report on the 3-1 defeat as well as an array of stories
in the days leading up to the match.
You knew this was coming but it's still annoying. The Houston City Council will vote (hopefully)
tomorrow to approve the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone that will finally clear the way for
construction to begin on the new Dynamo stadium. The TIRZ is expected to pass, but various city
politicians are using the vote as one final chance to grandstand against the project.
Any starting running back in the NFL has value in fantasy football. With that in mind, go ahead
and look for Chris Ogbonnaya as a waiver wire sleeper. The running back for the Cleveland Browns
could be thrust into a starting role going forward.
Starter Peyton Hillis got married to Amanda Brown and is now out injured.
Andre Johnson was regarded by many as the best fantasy football wide receiver heading into the
2011 NFL season. However, after a good start, Andre Johnson has been out injured with a hamstring
injury. He has missed the last three games for the Houston Texans.
The good news is that Andre Johnson was able to return to the practice field this week.
In Week 1 of the 2011 fantasy football season, there were a lot of surprising players leading
the way for the fantasy football world. If you had one of these players in you fantasy starting
lineup, pat yourself on the back. Job well done!
Here's our list of the most surprising fantasy football players in Week 1:
Production out of your fantasy football kickers can be pretty random. However, if you get
quality kickers who play for a team with a quality offense, you can take some of that randomness
out of the equation. Here are our kicker rankings for the 2011 fantasy football season.
1. Nate Kaeding, San Diego Chargers
The Chargers can move the ball on offense.
A great tight end can give you a huge advantage in fantasy football. In 2011, that advantage may
be even larger than normal due to the shortage of high quality players at that position. Here are
our tight end rankings for 2011 fantasy football:
1. Antonio Gates, San Diego Chargers
Last season, Antonio Gates was on fire .
While the wide receiving crop for the 2011 fantasy football season is a bit light up top, there
are a ton of players with a lot of potential. Who will catch fire and be a fantasy football stud at
the wide receiver position? Here are our top ten wide receivers for 2011 fantasy football:
1. Andre Johnson, Houston Texans
He's the most talented wide receiver in the game.
When it comes to winning a fantasy football championship, the running back position separates
the men from the boys. If you can roll out three quality running backs on your fantasy football
squad, you have a good chance to win each week. Here are our 2011 fantasy football running back
rankings:
Andre Johnson of the Houston Texans is injured again. Last season, the superstar wide receiver
was injured for much of the season. Only a few days into training camp, Andre Johnson has suffered
a dislocated finger.
Andre Johnson's dislocated fingers is his pointer finger on his left hand. The good news is that
wide receivers in the NFL dislocate fingers all the time.
In order to succeed at the professional level, athletes must adhere to a strict awareness of proper
nutrition and hydration to help their bodies run in peak form during competition. U.S. Men's
National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann has introduced innovative concepts to the senior National
Team, and now Development Academy players are getting their own education about this critical
element of their performance.
The story gets fishier by the day. How did Ryan Braun manage to get out of his suspension for
elevated levels of testosterone, better known as steroids or juicing?
The person who managed Braun's drug test has come out with their side of the story and it's
compelling stuff.
Roy Rees coached the USA at four U-17 World Cups, from 1987 through 1993, a tenure during which the
young Americans celebrated historic victories over Brazil and Italy. Rees also co-founded the
Houston Texans in 1983 and helped create the Dallas Texans in 1993. He died on Saturday at age
74.
Mike Woitalla of Soccer America writes of 'one of the pioneers of the modern period of US Soccer'.
A quick rundown of the moves over the last two weeks is pretty simple. Carlo Costly and Luiz
Carmago signed. Yea, that's about it. Sad, I know. We all were hoping for something a bit more, but
alas we have a FO that is reminiscent of early Houston Texans era -- lots of huff and puff, but
nothing to actually blow the house down.
