The playoffs opened up last night in front of a raucous 30,000 + fans at Qwest Field in Seattle
last night, but the expansion Sounders went home disappointed as they failed to find the back of
the net in their 0-0 draw with the Houston Dynamo.
With the tie, Houston now only has to win at home when the series resumes on November 8th to
advance to the Western Conference Finals.

It's been a while since I've posted one of these so I thought I'd share some interesting soccer
related stories with you guys on this slow news day in the world of the Fire. Here's a nice write
up by ESPN on the MLS All Star game. It's a good preview of the match and if you plan on watching
tomorrow night you should definitely check it out.

MLS Rumors 03 May @ 05:11 PM EST
The Houston Chronicle and our good friends at Dynamoplanet.com are reporting that more details have
been released on what to expect in their new downtown stadium, including the fact that they are
still going for a 2011 opening.
Here's an excerpt from the Chronicle:
The Dynamo want to have the roughly $85 million, 22,000-seat stadium ready for opening day 2011.

Ok, so here on the Dynamo page we've been running a March Madness-style knockout tournament
trying to decide which team has the "best" cheerleading squad. So to even the balance, we decided
to run this post for da ladies....
I have yet to figure out exactly what Jeremy was doing on CosmoGirl.

It must be fun to be a Houston Dynamo fan. The team has only been around for three years, yet they
already have two MLS Cups (2006, 2007). Most expansion teams struggle right of the bat, but the

So what do you think? Knowing that there will still be (at least) a few moves made by the Dynamo
FO, this is starting 11 that I would put out on the pitch right now:GK - Pat Onstead - Although Pat
is pushing towards his last year, he is still the best in MLS.LB - Wade Barrett (Captain) - Wade is
still the anchor at the back.

Recap: HOU had another dominant season. In fact, they lost fewer games (5) than any other team in
the league, including CMB. If they had not started so slowly, they would have been Supporters
Shield winners in 2008. Of course, their fantastic regular season didn't ensure playoff success,
but HOU still gets an A for [.

Lo curios fue que el partido empezó 45 minutos tarde, aun así el equipo local nunca se

With only one game left in the season for most teams (well, except for Colorado and
Chivas, who play today), the playoff brackets are finally being filled in. San Jose lost by one
goal to Houston on Wednesday, then dropped another one goal game to Kansas City on Saturday. The
Quakes are no longer in playoff contention.

Forbes.com recently released a report that looked at the economic side of MLS and also put a value

Seven of the league's 14 teams play in soccer-specific stadiums, five of which have been built
since 2002.

First off, I have to point out that Kevin Goldthwaite DID say that it would be
easier to slice tomatos than to take down Houston. Nostradamus was in the house, as the defense,
obliterated by injuries and suspensions, held the Dynamo to a 3- 0 shutout.
Coach Osorio, reacting to the losses in the back, relied heavily on some of the
newer pieces in a 4-4-2 formation.

Every once in a while a game comes along that I really wished I had bet on, even just a dollar,
something. One of those games took place Saturday when MLS best New England visited league worst
San Jose and left with an embarrassing 0-4 loss. Perhaps we should have seen it coming, San Jose
had been unbeaten in its last four games, including a 3-2 win last week over the Galaxy, while New
England had gone on a two game losing streak.

Now that it is The Day After, I have a few thoughts on what just happened.
Alexi Lalas' firing was at least a year too late and was a laughably inept hire

color commentary, creating funny ESPN Sportscenter promotional spots, even defending for the US
