We go back to the days of perms and short shorts to pick our team of the 1980s. That's the best
possible XI from the decade fashion forgot, but creative midfielders did not. We also discuss Fabio
Capello's shock resignation as England manager. Was Capello right to quit? Did the FA push him too
far?
PSMS have sacked coach Raja Isa. It follows tales of dressing room unrest and unhappiness with
the Malaysian coach's training methods. Now far be it for me to go round making assumptions but
cast your mind back to Arema's title winning season and also the constant musical chairs in the
Persib hot seat last season.
If you loved Phil Jackson's last book (who didn't), I have good news for you: The legendary
coach is coming out with a new book. Entitled "Eleven Rings," the book will likely give updates
since his last book was written in 2004. Since then, Jackson's legacy grew even more as he added a
pair of championships with the Los Angeles Lakers.
It's not fair to tag him now with either one of the two colonial characters whom I opined the new
S.League CEO would be and define the direction the league is heading to under his leadership.
The announcement of former ex-SAFFC chairman Lim Chin came as no surprise with talks of the former
Chief of Artillery being named as the man on the hot seat following several news reports of him
suggested he would.
In many ways they were the team that propelled Thai football into the national consciousness.
Chonburi maybe were the first to develop a local identity, to build a team that people could
recognize as being their very own after an era when club sides like BEC Tero Sasana and Thai
Farmers; Bank may have won kudos overseas for their Asian Cup exploits but struggled locally to
make much of an impact.
It's a big day for Andre Villas-Boas' current team and his former one as well.
Chelsea's Portuguese manager is already on the hot seat just months into his first season at the
helm, and the questions about his future will only get louder if the Blues can't knock off Valencia
in Tuesday's UEFA Champions League group stage finale (Fox Soccer Channel, 2:45 p.
Revolution fans can finally exhale.
In a surprise announcement made during the team's 2012-13 jersey unveiling at the Gillette
Stadium Pro Shop on Saturday, Revolution President Brian Bilello announced that the team had
re-signed midfielder Shalrie Joseph. According to a tweet from Boston Herald reporter Kyle
McCarthy, Joseph's new deal will classify the Grenadan center half as a Designated Player for the
2012 season.
Fulham's summer signing Moussa Dembele believes that his side will qualify from the Europa
League group stage despite a heart-breaking 1-0 defeat to Dutch runners-up FC Twente.
In a toughly contested match away from home, the Cottagers always looked second best and were
punished when Austria international Marc Janko struck with just over a minute left to play.

Steve Bruce will have more free time now to feed the pigeons
To be fair to Sunderland, the club had given Steve Bruce a decent amount of money to strengthen
his squad over the years. But despite that financial backing, the former Manchester United
defender's best showing with the Black Cats was a tenth-place finish last season.
Much of the focus of Bobby Di Matteo's appearance in front of the press before Liverpool tomorrow
is about his future. There has been speculation of late that clubs had been interested in speaking
to him with a view to becoming their manager (...and Leicester to mention one).
Di Matteo was keen to emphasise how happy he is here in the club he calls his home.
The Sport-Express newspaper is reporting that Russian money bags Anzhi Makhachkala are targetting
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger as a potential candidate for the vacant hot-seat at the Dinamo Stadium.
After taking over Arsenal way back in 1996, the Frenchman has won 3 premier league titles, 4 FA
Cups and has gifted us with the beautiful, [.
"I don't agree [that I need help.] I don't solve problems on my own; I solve problems with my
group of people and my group of players.
Says Andre Villas-Boas, who apparently is already under pressure in his role as Chelsea
manager.
True, they face a fight to stay in the Champions League and the premier league odds have drifted to
14/1, but it is still a ludicrous suggestion, but one that is symptomatic of the Abramovich era at
Stamford Bridge.
With former West Ham player Peter Butler back in the hot seat Kelantan are lining up a busy pre
season ahead of the new season that begins in January.
Last Friday they defeated the Maldives national team in a friendly in KL with an estimated 7,000
fans cheering them on. New Ghanaian striker Dennis Antwi scored both goals.
I think we all agree that the Chelsea job isn't exactly a bed of roses based on the levels of
expectation put on you as manager. You would imagine that only the most confident, determined and
focused managers would even entertain the idea of taking the hot seat here and a task of taking the
club out of the shadows of the Jose Mourinho era at the club.
Keep it under your hats but Spurs can go third tonight. Yes. Exactly. Ruddy heck. In a
season where the City of Manchester is shaking off the ghastly idea of having to actually compete
with the rest of the league and instead branching off and starting their own SUPER AWESOME MEGA
league where non-local types aren't even allowed past reception, there's a feeling that anything's
possible in the race for, well, everything else.
Kenny Dalglish saluted his Liverpool side after they overcame Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge
courtesy of Glen Johnson's superb late goal.
The spoils looked set to be shared after Daniel Sturridge cancelled out Maxi Rodriguez's first-half
opener before Johnson's intervention.
The former Chelsea full-back collected Charlie Adam's raking cross-field pass, nutmegged Ashley
Cole and the slotted home after driving into the box.
Past Managers: Volume 3 Bob Paisley
Whenever somebody utters the name of Liverpool Football Club, it's synonymous with great
managers and great players. Over the years Bill Shankly has become an icon but many people forget
the achievements of his successor, Shankly began the dream, but it was none other than Bob Paisley
who ensured it continued.

The beautiful game in black and white; the numbers behind 2011-12 campaign - originally posted

In any game of football luck is a key issue in the outcome; refereeing decisions, the bounce of
the ball and a lick of paint all have the ability to make or break your team's fortunes in a split
second.
Steve Nicol did a lot in New England but the last couple years weren't enough. (Getty

This is news we have to say we saw coming a long time ago. The writing was pretty much on the
wall last year, if not the year before that, and it most certainly came full circle this season.
The New England Revolution announced today that they have mutually parted ways with long-time
manager Steve Nicol.
At one point this season I thought about having Gary Smith on my coaching hot seat list but a
midseason turnaround kind of killed that thought for me. Turns out, we could be close to him
leaving Colorado anyways. He and TD Paul Bravo are apparently not on the same page these days.
In a way I wonder if this could have something to do with Smith staying behind for one of the
Rapids CCL games on the road.
Inter Milan have signed another former Chelsea manager in Claudio Ranieri who
will be unveiled as their new coach tomorrow following the sacking of Gian Piero Gasperini
yesterday after just 5 games in charge at the club. Ranieri will become Inter's fifth manager in 15
months following Jose Mourinho, Rafa Benitez, Leonardo and Gasperini in the hot-seat.
Examining the Italian sports front pages one day after Inter Milan loses to a
side recently promoted from Serie B can be a fascinating experience. The phrases 'Sfascio'
(Collapse), 'Gasperini Sinks' and 'Super Novara!' are cluttered all over the place. These Italians
seem to love the word 'Super' a lot, eh, SuperPippo?

But it wasn't all good news for the winners as striking sensation Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez
was forced out of the game after he suffered a tough challenge from Chelsea's Ashley Cole in front
of goal.
Sir Alex Ferguson described the tackle as "shocking" and "over the edge," also citing that he
couldn't understand why a penalty wasn't giving, as Cole received a yellow card for the challenge
inside the area.
Steve Clarke has admitted he has been encouraged by the performances of the club's talented
youngsters since he came to the club.
Martin Kelly, Jay Spearing, Jon Flanagan and Jack Robinson have been regular members of the
first-team squad since the return of Kenny Dalglish to the Anfield hot seat, and Clarke insists
they are there on merit.

It always seemed a rather strange decision by the Venkys bigwigs to jettison Sam Allardyce for
not playing attractive enough football only to promote his second in command, Steve Kean, to the
top job.
Prior to jumping into the hot-seat at Ewood Park, the 43-year-old Scot had never managed a team
himself, instead racking up a number of assistant manager gigs at the likes of Fulham and Coventry
City.
10.30pm: Managing the Liverpool Way
They revolutionised British football on the pitch during the 1960s, 70s and 80s, but how did our
stars of the past fare when it came to life in the hot seat? We attempt to find out in our new
series 'Managing the Liverpool Way' tonight at 10.
Jordan Lussey struck a magnificent equalizer as Liverpool U18s came from behind to claim a
creditable 1-1 draw against Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon.
The versatile youngster finished off a positive run with a rasping 25 yarder on 74 minutes to
cancel out Joe Ralls's opener from the penalty spot.
2010 -11 Recap A mid-table finish last term does not tell the whole story of a nerve wracking
campaign for I Ducali which saw them flirt with relegation right up until the closing few weeks of
the season. A change at the helm in early April, which saw former Bologna tactician Franco Colomba
substitute Pasquale Marino in the Ennio Tardini hot-seat, proved a season saving move by larger
than life.
Now safely ensconsed in the Deltras hot seat, new coach Jorg Steinbrunner, formerly of Woodlands
Wellington, Sengkang Punggol, Etoile and Medan Chiefs, is wasting no time bringing in a couple of
familiar faces.
Former Woodlands and Medan Chiefs Abdelhadi Laakkad is a Moroccan striker who scores goals, as
opposed to Chamakh who is a Moroccan striker who gets pushed off the ball way too easily.

It has been a while since I last updated my coaching hot seat post. In fact I don't believe I've
updated it since Carlos de los Cobos was about to be let go in the Windy city earlier this
summer.
There really shouldn't be too many surprising names on this list below.
Oh. Dear.
Football Manager 2012 allows you to take control of any club in over 50 nations across
the world, including all of the biggest leagues across Europe.
You're in the hot-seat, which means you decide who plays and who sits on the bench,
you're in total control of tactics, team-talks, substitutions and pitch-side instructions as you

difference!
At 6-6-12 on the season, New York Red Bulls general manager Eric Solar has given head coach Hans
Backe a vote of confidence. Michael Lewis of BigAppleSoccer.com is reporting that the club has no
plans on removing Backe from his coaching post during the remainder of this season.
"Absolutely," Soler said if Backe will direct the team the rest of the season.
Rangers crash out of the Champion's League and the chants of "Super Ally" begin to stick in the
throats of the faithful.
Ridiculous in the extreme that a new manager should be judged on the basis of four games of
competitive football - only one of which ended in defeat.
But life in the Old Firm is a life full of extremes and a life that's often ridiculous.
Rumors of Pavel Pardo are flying around Chicago Fire Country and I think this as close to a done
deal as you can get for written and non-written reasons. The only problem? The current roster would
not allow it to happen. One of the main intrigues? The team already has several players in the
central midfield position.
Reports locally suggest former Indonesia national team coach Alfred Riedl is being lined up for the
hot seat, well, midly tepid, at Pelita Jaya. Of course the club now looking at an unprecedented
third season in Karawang after frequent city changes are run by an individual closely linked to the
previous PSSI regime.
New Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas will know the Champions League is of prime importance to the
Blues next season as he looks to bring trophies to Stamford Bridge.
The Portuguese boss was brought in to replace Carlo Ancelotti after the Italian was axed following
a trophy-less season in 2010/11, even though he won the double at Chelsea 12 months earlier.
Just days after the U.S. men's national team's Gold Cup Final loss to Mexico, there is tangible
unhappiness in some American fan circles about head coach Bob Bradley and whether he should stay on
as head coach.
Bradley did guide the United States to the Gold Cup Final, but fell short in the quest to lift
the trophy.
Sam Allardyce has confessed he still dreams of becoming England manager, writes
Tom Hopkinson in today's People. The new West Ham boss even reckons that a successful debut
season in the Upton Park hot-seat will put him in the frame to succeed Fabio Capello. The
56-year-old is on a two-year contract and his priority is to take the Hammers back into the Premier
League.
