A mini-clásico

Hasta El Gol Siempre 22 November @ 06:49 PM EST
The meaningful bits of the clásico rosarino on Sunday had all taken place before the match was even half an hour old, but whilst it lasted it was an absolute cracker. Two goals in one minute put Central ahead against the hosts in El Coloso Del Parque after just twelve minutes, but Newell's, fighting [. Click to continue reading...

We’re Nottingham Forest, unbeaten away..

LTLF 22 November @ 06:34 AM EST
This was the definition of a game of two halves from Forest, a pretty poor quality first half in which an early goal gifted to Middlesbrough caused our hosts to play a pretty calculated game throughout. The second half belonged to the Reds and certainly on balance of chances, whilst I'm pleased with a draw [. Uruguay Claim 32nd Spot

11 Lions - England Footy 19 November @ 02:46 AM EST

The World Cup winners in 1930 and 1950 became the last team to qualify for South Africa 2010 thanks to a draw with Costa Rica at the Centenario in Montevideo. Substitute Sebastian Abreu - who plays for Aris Salonika in Greece -Â put the hosts ahead 70 minutes but Costa Rica equalised when Deportivo Saprissa's Walter Centeno scored four minutes later.

Denmark dusts of U.S., 3-1

American Soccer News 18 November @ 09:56 PM EST
Three quick second half goals by Denmark canceled out a first half goal by Jeff Cunninghamand provided the Danes with a 3-1 victory against the U.S in its final match of 2009. Cunningham's goal was his first in international competition and gave the U.S. a lead it would hold until halftime. But three quick strikes from the hosts after the restart put the game to bed. Which Teams Have Qualified for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations in Angola?

WorldCupBlog 16 November @ 10:43 AM EST

This weekend was the World Cup qualifying climax in Africa, and there was plenty of qualification drama to go around. The winners of each of the five groups qualified for World Cup 2010, and everyone else missed out. But there was a pretty decent consolation prize for the ten second and third placed teams, as World Cup qualifying doubles as Africa Cup of Nations qualifying and the top three in each group qualified for the 2010 Africa Cup of Nations (also known as the African Nations Cup, ACN and CAN) in Angola.

Russian Football Now Podcast #13: Russia-Slovenia WCQ Preview

EPL Talk 12 November @ 08:48 AM EST

In partnership with Russian Football Now, EPL Talk presents the thirteenth episode of RNF's podcast.

Two close losses to Germany in UEFA World Cup qualifying has the Russian national team in a two-legged playoff with Slovenia. Many see this as the most lopsided of the four UEFA qualifying playoffs, though Slovenia who allowed only four goal in ten qualifiers should give the Russians significant problems.

Liverpool beat United in topical pranks, actual match

Dirty Tackle 26 October @ 01:20 AM EST

Not only did Liverpool shockingly defeat Manchester United 2-0, bringing an abrupt end to their apocalyptic free-fall and the imminent sacking of Rafa Benitez, but their fans also beat United fans by being the first to barrage the pitch with the inevitable storm of beach balls.

Though the word was that United fans had bought up all the official Liverpool beach balls like the one that scored Sunderland's winning goal the weekend before and had been eagerly planning to mock their Anfield hosts with them on Sunday, it was Liverpool fans in the Kop end that were first to toss their banned inflatables just before kickoff.

Weekend Soccer Television Schedule - 24/25 October

World Club Rankings 22 October @ 06:39 PM EST

We are now in high gear with the regular season in club football and the schedule demonstrates it. I lost count at 40-something as the number of matches being broadcast this weekend. It should be enough to keep people with even the most severe cases of football-ADD happy.

By our calculus, the match of the weekend takes place in Germany on Sunday when Schalke 04 hosts Hamburger SV because that's the only match featuring a pair of WCR Top 25 Clubs.
