Without doubt the highlight this weekend is the climax of the season in Malaysia with Kelantan
taking on Negeri Sembilan in the Malaysia Cup final at Bukit Jalil. Earlier in the season some
40,000 fans from the north east descended on the nation's capital to see their heroes take on
Selangor in the FA Cup Final only to go home broken hearted.

I think it is fairly safe to say things are not going to plan at Real Madrid's Santiago
Bernabeu. After a summer of unprecedented spending they were supposed to challenge for honours on
all fronts and regain their place at the top of La Liga from Barcelona.
In all fairness they're only a point behind Barca but the Real hieracrhcy are known for being a
bit trigger happy when it comes to managers.

Google the word "AD Alcorcon". Chances are the first thing you will notice is the glaring typo made
by every football website across the globe. But there's no typo. Alcorcon did beat Real Madrid 4-0
on Tuesday night.

It's been over 20 years since Liverpool last lost four games in a row and it is
time for some changes at Anfield. Rafa Benitez has enjoyed a big support from the fans even though
he did little to deserve it but it is more than clear he has taken this team as far as he could.
He's had his ups and downs at Liverpool but for the team that should be fighting for honours to
lose four games in a row is simply inexcusable.

A soon to be out of contract player who could be a very wise addition to the Gunners squad.
Barcelona have shown very little respect for our great club in their dogged and annoying pursuit
of their former youth team player and current Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas and with that in mind a
move for one of their soon to be out of contract stars would be an intelligent signing and as well
as a big 'up yours' to the Catalan side for good measure.

Phil Thompson believes that Liverpool co-owner George Gillett should sell his stake in the Anfield
outfit to Prince Faisal bin Fahed, the Saudi Arabian prince whose company F6 are believed to be in
talks with the American.
Thompson, a former Reds defender who captained the club and won a host of honours in the 1970s and
'80s, thinks that should Gillett sell then it would trigger his co-owner Tom Hicks into selling his
stake in the club as well.

Fernando Torres admits it would be a "massive blow" if Liverpool finished this season with no
silverware.
The Spain striker, who scored the winning goal in the Euro 2008 final to secure his country's first
major trophy for 44 years, arrived at Anfield two years ago from Atletico Madrid but has yet to
claim any honours with the Reds.

Their players have only just received their first income since July, and even that is still not
enough to make a decent living: this is not the Premier League, not even Portsmouth. But even this
small mercy for the players was all thanks to one fan, whose last will was to donate some money to
his beloved club.

Some comments from Michael Johnson following his return to action both in the victory over West
Ham, and for the reserves against Liverpool:
"I never felt like I wouldn't come back but the whole absence has toughened me up mentally and
that will serve me in good stead because as much as this game is about fitness and skill you need
to be mentally attuned too.

Dirk Kuyt today spoke of his immense pride at the prospect of matching Ian Rush's European Cup
goals tally.
Kuyt is just two shy of Rush in Europe's premier club competition after taking his haul to 12
against Debrecen.
If the Dutchman draws level with his Welsh predecessor, only Steven Gerrard with 28 will have
scored more Champions League goals for Liverpool.

Another day, another London derby. This time it is QPR coming to the Bridge for what is an
eagerly awaited clash, particularly for the Hoops.
I'm looking forward to the game particularly because it represents the best chance Chelsea's
younger players have of making an impression that we've seen for a long time.

Hurrah! It's Friday tomorrow, a mere day before Saturday, which is the very day of my first home
league game of the season.
Weird that we'll have had just one home league game more than a month into the season, but
that's how it's panned out. We've played seven, won five, lost two. Is it a disastrous start to the
season?

Olympique Marseille have made a big progress during the last few years and they
have again become one of the strongest teams in France but the last two Champions League campaigns
are the proof Marseille are not yet ready for the big stage. Didier Deschamps'
team completely outplayed Milan in their opening Champions League match but still somehow managed
to lose the game and this shows the team are yet to prove they've got winning mentality.

The pick of this weekend's Premier League action is without a doubt Manchester City's home tie
with Arsenal. Both teams have something to prove, City may have a 100% start but they're yet to
come up against a side who will also be competing for honours and the match against Arsenal
represents a great chance for them to establish their own top-four credentials.

Watch World Cup qualifiers live here.
International press conferences at the best of times tend to be mundane, by the numbers affairs
filled with platitudes by the key figures within the national side. Not much changes when it comes
to conferences prior to World Cup qualifiers, or even the finals itself, but within the words
always lies a common train of thought: There are few, if any greater honours in football than
representing your country at the World Cup.

By CARL ELDRIDGE We may not have signed anyone as the hours and minutes ticked away in the

In the end, it was a damp squib of a transfer deadline day, hyped to the nines but delivering
nothing of interest, and nothing at all for Arsenal.
The whole absurd day, which has become a newspaper-selling website-hitting phenomenon all of its
own, with Sky Sports News the very worst culprit, is summed up for me by this one entry from the
Guardian's live transfer deadline day page:
5.

As we walk into the bar at Kingsmeadow, something silver and shiny catches my attention in the
corner of my eye. "It's the FA Trophy!", I squeal, "The real FA Trophy". It takes a sharp prod to
the rib cage to remind me that, sitting next to it, is the squatter but considerably shinier FA
Cup. It's carnival day in south-west London, the day of the Co-Operative Supporters Direct Cup
match, an annual invitation match for supporters trust owned clubs, and this year - as it was two
years ago this weekend - it's Wimbledon and FC United doing the honours.
