Egypt is the toast of the Confederations Cup just like Turkey were in the 2008 Euro which lifted
much above its weight class.
An agonizing 4-3 loss to five time World Cup winner Brazil over a disputed Kaka goal in the 90th
minute and now a 1-0 win over five time World Cup winner Italy.
African Champions Egypt bounce back from their dramatic opening defeat against Brazil, in unseating
the World Champion Azzurri 1-0 at Ellis Park Stadium Johannesburg this evening and record the first
upset of the tournament.
It was a header from Mohamed Homos in the 39th minute off the corner which kept Egyptian chances of
making the semifinals alive and well.
Let's lay our cards on the table first of all. We're more than well aware that we predicted Italy
to come second in Group B and go on to play Spain in the semi-finals, but that's because, like you,
we thought Italy would beat Egypt. Just goes to show how wrong you can be, doesn't it?
Egypt stunned Italy 1-0 with a header by Mohamed Homos on Thursday, leaving the world champions
with an uphill battle to reach the Confederations Cup semifinals. The African champions easily
neutralized Italy's revamped forward line and surprised the World Cup holders in the 40th minute
when Homos outjumped Daniele De Rossi and beat goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon with a header off the
inside of the post.

Egypt experienced one of their greatest moments on the international football stage when they
upset World Champions Italy 1-0 in a Confederations Cup group B game played in Johannesburg on
Thursday night.
It could well be argued that the African champions were full value for their half-time lead, but
the second stanza was however a different story as the European side had numerous excellent scoring
chances, only to be denied time and time again by sensational goal keeping by an inspired Essam
Al-Hadari, who made several heroic saves to preserve the slender lead.
Egypt get a sniff of victory against Italy Gay rights in football have come a long way in 24 hours.
Just yesterday we told you about the homosexual referee who had lost his licence because of his

Dunga's Brazil are starting to go through the gears in this tournament as they easily overcame USA
yestereday. Felipe Melo scored the opener from a Maicon free-kick, followed by goals from Robinho
and Maicon, who capped a fine display with the last goal.
The win confirms Brazil's place in the semi-finals, but USA are still in with a chance of securing
second spot in the group thanks to the first shock of the Confederations Cup yesterday as Egypt
beat Italy 1-0, in the following match.
Egypt edges Italy 1-0, 2nd place still up for grabs - Video Highlights
Egypt beat Italy 1-0 on  header from Mohamed Homos in the 39th minute to keep their chances of
making the semifinals still alive. With the victory they are now tied at 3 points with Italy for
2nd spot while Brazil has all but locked up first place.
On a night like tonight, one has to wonder whether there is something wrong at the heart of the
psyche of the Italian national football team. They stand alone amongst the Great Football Nations
in that they are prone to these bouts of extreme sudden clumsiness. No-one is going to suggest for
a second that the Confederations Cup ranks anywhere near the World Cup in terms of prestige,
importance or, well, anything, but it remains a tantalising possibility - did the ghosts of North
Korea in 1966, Cameroon in 1982 and South Korea in 2002 drift silently and invisibly across the
pitch at Ellis Park this evening.
